John Bateman #268

seems a long time for a bloke who could play this week. The sooner you give him minutes the better. 20 or 30.
I’d be cautious just because he’s a whole hearted player. He won’t hold back at all and is an injury waiting to happen if he’s not 100% ready. Also need to see if Blore still remembers the rules 😂

People say players come back from injury and start straight away, what they don’t factor in is the weeks of body contact that happens before it to be ready. Bateman has had zero body contact he has just been keeping fit in no doubt a hired gym setup. 2-4 weeks isn’t long time.

yeah, fair enough.

Correct - Supposed to be pushing 30' on Sunday (Although we play night)
they'll have had 3 training runs and a caps run....
If anything I would have him on the bench, But even then... For limited minutes, And at that would be a stretch.

We've got a good first run of games - All winnable....
I don't think we're at full strength playing Bateman after a week off the plane.

Worth mentioning, He's not coming home from Holidays - He's moved countries...
His last month at home would have been chaos, And highly emotional
- And he'd have been under the hammer all week settling in here.
Just not worth the risk....
That post is way too sensible for this forum. Cheers! 🍻🐯🏉🕺

I think when Covid happened there was a mandatory month of training before they could start. Lot of science goes into a pre-season. Imagine big Junior Paulo running into you off the back of a big weekend on the sauce. You gotta be ready for that!

I have seen first hand the Storm side training setup and all will say is 100% no way would any player come back from a few months away without a minimum 2 weeks body contact training.

Storm do it better than anyone. They have the luxury of strategically resting players towards the end of the year normally. Still filthy cheats who cost us finals footy numerous years.

The final paragraph is disappointing

lets hope this is true .. but id be definitely getting him now fully checked out by our medical staff .. and if he fails pack him up and send him home without playing a game for us .. then I'd be checking with the NRL if we have a clause that we can send him back without too much financial damage .. if any .. !!

But let's hope there is nothing wrong with Bateman and this statement above is correct.

If your going to run with the excuse of a player not being acclimatised, then of bloody course he should be playing in reserves to become just that.
I think Lee has got his words wrong there. He needs to understand the game plan sure and he needs to get his body ready for the rigours of NRL. A lot of tackling is timing which he wouldn’t have yet and the speed of NRL is well known. Acclimatised is not the right word and probably Lee’s legal mind at work.
