Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It’s the thought process that concerns me with this club. Players in the NRL have continued to get bigger/stronger/faster, especially in the last 5 years.

Then we have Kautoga who is the prototypical modern day second rower, and we let him slip through our fingers.

Instead we sign a 93kg Bateman and promote a 93kg Tumeth, both who would be smaller/lighter/less dynamic than ~80% of backs in the NRL. We’ve been outmuscled in the forwards for years, with predictable results, but seem to want to embed our deficiencies.

I really hope Bateman and Tumeth both work out for their sakes and our sakes. But size/speed/power are required attributes to really succeed on the edges these days and our boys would be in the lower percentiles compared the rest of the competition in that regard.

Regarding the bulldogs, Gus must think it’s hilarious. It’s like the Bulldogs are the bully and we are the long suffering victim.

FB gets more exposed than any other player and can't think of many that dont make errors in games - some of the best make just as many errors as Laurie but play behind better squads and are not critiqued as heavily when you win. I see Laurie very differently to plenty of fans on here in terms of bravery he leaves most of our blokes for dead and at this point it's a quality that this team needs in spades. Whether the coaches see it that way I guess we will see.

surely Tupou is in this week. Staines to full back. Laurie to Nadens wing. Tupou to the other wing. Nofa to reserve grade and told he is free to look around, as should Laurie be. As soon as a spot frees up we promote and debut Bula. Hunt for a 7 from england asap . brooks to 6
Laurie is not a winger, picking him on the wing is just plain stupid, he needs to be dropped for sure, not moved to wing

Lots of theories here, was interesting to hear Joel Caine on SEN just now say 3 blokes came to WT from the Roosters in 2003 and came 1, 2 and 3 in the beep test. Fletch added that Robbie came back from souffs and was suddenly first in all of these training metrics despite his back etc...

We have a soft culture, my theory is it starts in the board and head office where having the gig at all costs is worth more than winning at all costs. It permeates the coaching staff, the senior players are all sheep, we buy guys in and then naturally they do a bit less because they can. You only have to be a few percent less intense than everyone else to really suck in the NRL.

There's no point talking about juniors we lose because they probable can't find their ceiling with us anyway, and that's sad for a development club.

Everyone at the club probably looked at Maguire like he had 2 heads, because he knew they weren't good enough but believed (hoped) they could be. We need to fire him after 2 years or commit for 10, in the end we took the soft decision again, a bit more time, a bit more time, then when the team are actually trying but down on luck we axe him and are getting what we deserve. Weak club, top to bottom, only the fans are NRL standard.

not all the fans are nrl standard, some believe brooks should still be in first grade

Joel Caine also mentioned on Saturday how they would skip Video sessions by taking batteries out of the Remote / Cheat at training.

Watch Api, Klem and Papi assimilate

Looks like the culture of being lazy and accepting low standards still exists at the Tigers.

Because they can't figure out how to get a side winning, despite making very significant changes in very many attributes of the club.

There's barely a man or woman left from operations in 2011 and yet we get the same results every season.

Sure we could chuck out the entire board, the last stone unturned, but will that make the players concentrate for 80 mins and play with passion? God only knows.

What I will also say is that unlike most industries, other clubs are actively competing to crush your business. Not just to out-compete you or take some of your client / consumer based, but literally defeat and belittle you every week. They lose if you win, you lose if they win. Tough industry to be in.
Like you said "last stone unturned" so let's try it. It's a tough industry, but we manage to find it tougher than every other Club. They cannot field a successful side.

Laurie to wing is a terrible idea. Finding a position for the sake of keeping him in the team. He would be dragged into touch 5 times a game.

I reckon it's a good idea and I also thought it was stupid previously. He played there on the weekend. He does a lot of work and has a bit of zip. I like the idea of switching him and Staines around a bit throughout the game.

Longer term we need a quality fullback but short term I don't mind Staines and Laurie interchanging.

Another disappointing result. Too many mistakes to win a football game. Don’t worry about the complicated we ate gale with the pure basics. Also having the worst back 5 in the NRL does not help. I am sure that there are better back 5 in the KOE cup. That’s needs to addressed. Yesterday we were seriously missing heartledge something that the Dolphin's have in spades and hence the results!
