It appears I'll keep repeating myself, but OK I'll say it twice this weekend.
Knights apparently wanted up to half a million a year to take on Brooks. You are going to pay Knights a million bucks to take Brooks off your hands for 2 years? That's part of the reported reason the deal was scuppered.
I am supremely bored of the arguments that Tigers could have traded Brooks or Hastings, at our own discretion or leisure, as if the Knights weren't trying to drive their end of the bargain.
Fact is they took Hastings for zero cost to us, and they released Klemmer to us in return. That deal was never on offer for Brooks.
So it's not the Tigers' fault that they supported and trusted Brooks within his current contract, and he's not repaying any of that value. He wouldn't need a fresh start or a release if he could do a half-decent job of playing halfback.
