To be fair I think letting the players go early helped us secure players like Bateman and klemmer for this season and gave us money in the cap to offer mosses 1.4 million
 
I'd be trying to pick up Bennett for a few yrs after his dolphins stint. He can oversee Benj. What he's done for Redcliffe is amazing, considering the salary cap differences between his and the top teams.
Plus Tim's shit and needs to be another assistant at Canberra

Townsend and Deardan could probably be called competent rather than superstars but with the right squad around them (and the right coaching and structures) competent in the halves is enough to be at the pointy end of the table.

Throw the chequebook at Bennet or Bellamy to be a coaching director type role similar to Gus Gould. Could help Benji (getting his assistant’s right will be crucial) and add some credibility to our brand and signing potential.

Wld have got them anyway...all(except Gildart) finishing up at the end of last season..Sheens just accelerated their departure leaving us with...nothing!

Even Adam Clune as he’s experienced, not too old and if nothing else knows how to play with a bit of structure and has a half decent kicking game,

No it would have been 2 years, so up to a million dollars for Knights to take Brooks off us, and that's assuming it is a deal the Knights agreed to.

Don't forget Brooks' salary is reported to be back-ended, so whatever he's earning now, he earned less in the first years of the deal.

They wanted him even in the off season just past. It was for 1 year

I don't see how Knights could even ask us to chip in for a 2nd year (24) when Brooks wasn't contracted to us.

I'm sure (not certain) we could have got Brooks to Newcastle for 2023 with us chipping in, but then that's it. No chipping in a 2nd year.

In the media it will probably be a damned if you do or damned if you dont resign him. So in saying that the club surely must be aware of this and we wont hear either way until we sign his replacement assuming we dont sign him again.

Other than that Brooks signing elsewhere we'd obviously hear something, we all know the media love to pile in on us and we don't half give them ammo to do it.
