Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

No point the club entertaining the idea of Jack Wighton coming here, there are a host of better, more successful clubs already lining up showing interest.

The Tigers will just have to offer more money per year and more years then like they do when they sign anyone else

No use even entertaining Wighton if we cant find an orginising halfback. Wighton is a better version of Adam Doueihi. It wont fix our organizational play very much.
Agree. He'd be a good 6 to have, but we have to solve this halfback problem and it's an expensive problem to fix.

$1M on Wighton doesn't seem the right investment for our team.

Sign Lewis Dodd (halfback). George Williams (5/8). Semi Radradra(wing). Thomas Jenkins(centre). Kayal Iro (fullback). If WT cannot sign Radradra then Kaeo Weekes or Luke Metcalf for fullback then Jenkins to wing and Iro to centre. Just my wishlist.
To be honest haven't seen much of dodd, but he would be an improvement on brooks, can't see Radrada leaving rugby, he's on too much money, Kaeo weekes should be a target, he won't do much at manly, with turbo there

Canberra made a grand final and went very close to winning a premiership with Wighton in their team. He won best on ground that year in the final as well as the Dally M. He's a very good player.

His best is probably behind him, but he'd be worth a million a year with the increasing cap.

I'd rather not sign him given his age, potential for regression and the fact he's liable to off-field indiscretions. He's also not someone to organise the team, which we sorely lack.

If Wakeham does a good job of moving us around the park I'd reconsider Wighton though. But no more than a 2 year deal. Maybe 2 years $2.2m (I doubt he'll take that and is likely after a 4+ year deal). Won't win us a premiership but if it gets us into the 8 or thereabouts, at least we can show future recruits we're on the up and build from that.

Mole reporting Williams no chance in coming as his Super League club will not entertain a transfer and their talking an extension. Funny pretty sure that's what Batemans club said aswell till he told them he wanted a release.
Williams wants back into the N.R.L. He is mates with Bateman, reckon Bateman is probarbly already in his ear, if Williams asks to be released they're hands are tied. Rumour has it they wanted a huge transfer fee to release him to us when we enquired last year. Reckon they're just posturing to raise it even more.

Problem is I think they are winning games so hard to release.

Yeah true, though if he walks in and says I want to move it would be like Moses here, there wouldn't be much they could do to stop him, even if he signs with us from 25 onward they won't hold him, it is in their best interest to take what they can get instead of his contract running down and getting nothing.

I'm starting to see the same situation with Wakeham and Hastings. Notice all the official love going Brooks way and little to none to Wakeham. Didn't Wakeham just say he was there to do a job and support Brooks?

I read in the off-season Simpkin was training at half back as well as hooker. Why not see how he goes he can pass well not sure on kicking game though but maybe worth a shot considering our depth.

Sounds like Lewis Dodd is keen to play NRL and St Helens is resigned to the fact he'll likely ask for a release.

“Lewis is a great young lad and like any player does, he has the right to sign with any manager or agency as they want,’ Wellens told Love Rugby League.

“We respect those decisions, and Lewis is with us in 2023 and is contracted for 2024.

“We’ll obviously do all we can as a club to try and keep him here. He’s a player we love and value and we feel he is instrumental to our continued success.

“But also, Lewis is a grown adult who can make decisions for himself. What I do know with Lewis and his relationship with the club is that it’s a respectful one.

“So any conversations that happen, whether that’s now or three months, six or 12, they’ll be done in the right way.

“There’s nothing more to really add on the matter.”
