And that is the issue with players like Wakeham, Brooks and AD.

We need quality players in key positions who adapt & make those around them look good, gets the most out of the team. We don’t need players in key positions that need to rely on others to make them look good.

Wakeham played well in the Raiders trial and when he came on against the Dogs the team played far better and almost won,he should be given the opportunity to show how good he can be,he came to us with limited preseason and deserves some time in the position,God knows we have given Luke many years .....

He was quiet in the Raiders trial just like he was in the Melbourne game. When he did get involved he looked decent. I think invlovmet is an issue with him. You need your 7 involved and Wakeham is floating in and out of games at the moment. Tonight he has to work hard to stay in the game.

I think you are forgetting he came on against tired opponents in 35 degrees against the dogs … last week he played the full 80 and was fairly quiet

See how he performs tonight

My mate, who is a die hard dogs fan - has been saying this is about him for years.

Also said he'll do 1 thing and follow it up with mistakes...

Sky's the limit though, he can always improve.

Sometimes players snap out of it and find the next gear. More often they don’t because it’s around commitment, application & effort.

He is 24, didn’t get have a positive scout report otherwise would’ve been signed over kids in other teams rosters until a few weeks before the season started for us. To me indicates he is a best effort style player with limited upside.

He definitely has more in him then I gave him credit for. Floating in and out of games is a trait of young halves, also the mistake after something good like you said.

At 24 and on a lifeline, you would hope he is at the point where those two things will improve. Involvement should be easily fixed.

Something I noticed the 2 times Wakeham has started in the top team, the other half lifted their Involvement. The Raiders trial Doueihi did too much (even though he played well) and then Brooks did the same last week, (without the playing well part). I'm hoping the coaching staff have worked all week on Brandon taking the lead over the other 2 rather then him playing 2nd fiddle.
 
Thanks for putting this and so many other things up Lauren, but these interviews would be so much better if you could actually hear what the questions were.

How hard would it be to hand around a microphone or later on put up some subtitles or something so you are not constantly trying to work out what was asked. Doesn't really require cutting edge technology or budget breaking financial investment to fix this up.

For goodness sake, it's 2023, not amateur hour .

Nice to see a couple of hard kicks going over as well. I think he’s warming into the set up.
 
Wakeham is far from terrible...and neither is Brooks.But neither are game changers
But we need one decent playmaker /leader/organiser/kicker paired up with one of these two to have any real attack..and Brooks is by far the least affordable f these two
The Saints replacement half nearly beat us by himself
PS Brooks has lost a lot of speed..cant get thru those half gaps anymore

I think Brooks is better but Wakeham isn't bad. They both don't have contracts next season. We need one player better than these two but can we get that player ?

If we had gotten Moses the situation changes but it's going to be interesting what they do. Personally I don't think we'll get a great half next season. I think looking at Shaun Johnston is pretty close to admitting defeat in that I don't think we'll have a marquee half next season. It makes sense though. You have to accept the reality of the situation.

On Brooks I think he is looking quick, making great passes, showing great decision making and really good kicking. He is defending well as well. He is killing it. He has outplayed plenty of halves this season.

Don't think Wakeham is either
Key is...who we can get to steer us around ..and Brooks $$$ helps make the decision re his halves partner

I agree on the using Brooks dollars elsewhere but I see it differently. Wakeham is contributing plus he can goal kick. Brooks is playing pretty well right now but he isn't a marquee player. They are both off contract.

I think it's much more complex though than what you are stating. I'm not sure we just need a controlling half. We need a gun half. We need Hynes or Cleary or something like that but I don't think we'll get that player. I don't think Hastings or Townsend just as examples improve us. I think that is why the club is looking at Shaun Johnston. They need to look at what is available and just make the best decision they can.

So get all of the available options and work out where you spend your money and what we can get.
