This would've been a good moment to get fans to send their design in with what they would like to see on the jersey for their reflection of the Anzacs. Get some practical fan involvement. They ask Indigenous artists for their interpretation of the jersey, why not fans who have a link for our Anzacs or our Diggers??

Fair enough. I know your background and I've got a few mates who are ex army (none in the navy funnily enough 🤣)
On a personal level I don't attach much significance to it as it did get approved by the NRL and was a collab with a defence unit.
But I'll back you in the fact that you find it offensive to the diggers.
Shows a lack of compassion I guess, an important part of our history just treated with disregard.
Can't expect rainbows from this mob can we?

Some of you are inventing things to get upset about now, faux outrage, all very Fox News.

Imagine if hobo's early joke post was the clubs indigenous jersey? just some silhouetted native Americans? What's the big issue right? what do you want a stock photo of Ernie Dingo?

Pretty thoughtless comment right? Or would any uproar over that be faux outrage?

Statement from the club to Fox League:

Wests Tigers has collaborated with Holsworthy Army Barracks, who have sighted and approved all collateral relating to the release of this jersey.

The soldiers on the jersey simply depict the modern-day soldier serving in a desert environment.

The image in question, which is a stock image, has been purchased under license by our official apparel partner.

The final design was approved by NRL Licensing.

The military camouflage pattern above the chevron on the jersey is an authentic replica of the Australian Army camouflage that has been digitalised and grey-scaled.

Both the Australian and New Zealand flags are represented on the jersey’s shoulders, again honouring our ANZACs.

Above all else, this jersey honours all Defence Force personnel who have served in recent conflicts in Middle East wars, who are so often underrepresented.

The release of this jersey falls three weeks out from our Anzac Round clash against Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in Round 8.

A stock image that does not depict Australians is simply wrong. If the ADF was involved and approved the images there is someone in Canberra on the mat in front of the Chie of the Defence Force for sure. Unlike the Wests Tigers they will take action against the individuals involved. Probably career ending for the PR dude I would think.

@The Fresh Oil got it 100% right - if it was an indigenous or multi-cultural jumper half the world would be outraged. Not a chance I will buy one.

The photo chosen is so disrespectful of our Australian men and women in the armed forces.

Wasn't hard.

Just be real and feel for the moment.

Talk about losing touch.

Another disappointment when I expected our club to show true colours.

I work in the marketing field. This is a massive blunder by the club. Particularly since the CEO is a marketing guy.

Whenever you use an image of a person, anyone worth their salt will triple check who the person is, whether there's appropriate permission to use their image, where the image was taken.

When it's for something so emotional like ANZAC Day and the stakes are high, you triple check.

I'm generally petty patient with the club and I know that mistakes can happen, but this is a massive red flag that the club is being really poorly run both on and off the field.

I've just got this idea in the back of my mind that Wests Tigers realized the jersey was a stuff up but it had gone way too far and it was too late to pull it.

Could this be why they have opted this year to call it a commemorative jersey rather than ANZAC jersey to take as much focus as possible away from the graphics that were used.

Just a bit of a long shot because I'm sure it has always been called an ANZAC jersey in past years.

What ever the reason for the stuff up, I won't be buying it and ironically ANZAC round just happens to be against Manly of all teams.

You can't make this stuff up but in any case I will be going to the game which I will no doubt regret after we suffer a humiliating defeat just like last year at Cambo when I believe we were out numbered by Manly supporters at one of our so called home grounds.

I will most likely be wearing an ANZAC Jersey which I believe is the best one that has ever been produced, which as a bonus does not feature the hideous Brydens logo but manages to commemorate 100 years and features slouch hats, rifles with bayonets attached and a rising sun back ground.

Actually it does feature a Brydens logo and for once it's about the right size.

Yep, it's a 'blame everyone else' quote. I partly agree that WT are not the only ones at fault with this but so is the NRL and the apparel sponsor (Steeden?). The first thing though is to accept that this was a mistake which no one has owned up to yet. I don't think anyone will either.

Nobody at WT will own up for this stuff up though it is quite possible a scapegoat towards the bottom of the club will be made to walk the plank to keep the sharks happy
