I know it’s not the right thing to do, but…

The cellar dwellers have to pay overs to keep up with the 'good cap managers' and this skews their caps making them look incompetent.

100%. It's a joke of a system. When we lost Tedesco and Moses it was huge. The rorters signing Smith for instance is hilarious. He didn't even consider an offer from another club.

I think a lot of it comes down to constant change the best clubs went through or are still going through consistency in coaches or spine players and its hard to improve that in any short term way. Coaches come in or players come in and try to get some short term success and it scuppers long term plans and it all starts over again.

Tigers are in a long cycle of this , I don't think it's unique to us but we're not handling or addressing it as well as we should.

Has anyone ever asked…why us? Why does it have to be the team that we support that has become the basket case of the NRL for all these years on end, going from bad to worse with every new season? Why Wests Tigers, why couldn’t it be some other team instead? For every club that may have its problems, we have more and they’re far worse. I really hate that it’s come to this, it’s very painful 😞

Some one sold their soul in 2005 to get a GF win. Devil always comes out on top.

Never forget the same off-season they signed Tedesco they also signed Cronk after moving on Pearce. Nothing to see here.

I know I have. Even just coming into this weekend's game I thought "why do Storm/Panthers/Roosters fans get to perennially enjoy the excitement of a genuinely competitive team, practically assured of finals every year, when I've been a fan for 40 years and seen a solitary premiership?".

Two other gfs in my time in 88 and 89, but you couldn't suffer a worse loss than 89. What's more, you still hear about what a 'miracle' it was; not for Balmain supporters it wasn't!

Curse you Warren Ryan! Cuuuurse yooooouuuu!

I think it's only natural to wonder why us, and nothing to feel bad about. It sucks that we chose the tigers for whatever reason and because of it rarely if ever get to experience the excitement of finals, let alone premierships.

But as long time supporters we can all say this: we are loyal and have character.

We've all had plenty of opportunities to jump ship and go for another team, but inside we all know that the victories would be hollow. It would never be the same, and if the Tigers then found success, jumping back wouldn't feel right either.

It's only sport, and yes it can be harsh, but the great thing about it is anything is possible. Likely is a different story, but definitely possible! 😊
I reckon the 3 consecutive Grand Finals that Wests Magpies lost 😡 against St George in 61/62 and 63 would have to be pretty hard for most Maggie's supporters to handle 🙁.

Good question.

I mean we have had issues, but not scandals.
I.e. Asada and the sharks.
Bulldogs/Melbourne/Parra and the salary cap.

I think one reason is the coaching instability. We have been very Unlucky.
Had Mick potter been given a 3rd or 4th year, we could have seen some success.
Instead we saw Taylor almost wreck the team and any sort of "culture". Followed by 1 year of Cleary and 3 years of McGuire....

Sheens when he was in charge did not do enough to develop the structures and culture of the WT. The multi home grounds has not helped. I think too the acceptance of older Wests or Balmain players. We lost part of that history or former player experience with the Merger.

Said it before, we should cheat.
And if we get caught, the football boss takes the bullet and no penalty incurred just like Brisbane with Andrew Gee.
I 100% agree with this statement. Just lets do it smartly like Easts and not like how Parra does it.

In fact Justin Pascoe would be the ideal fall person for just a move. "sorry we did not realise... slides money under table"... No rules = no rules.

To be fair I remember the Panthers and Eels having some truly horrendous sides, as have the Roosters. They've just managed to rebuild/buy/cheat their way out of it and we are stuck with two people hell bent on maintaining their empire no matter how it crumbles.

I obviously want the Tigers to win it all every year, but if we can't I don't care as long as it's not the Roosters.
I feel that way about the Titans...Don't know why I loathe them so much but I do...probably that Tino grub more than anything

I feel your pain @Flippedy. However, I think, for once, that the rebuild is being done with a strategic approach, and, although the wins aren't on the board, the change in direction is evident for all to see. There have been mistakes for sure: Sheens as coach wasn't the brightest decision; not developing the basics before trying to dazzle with brilliance, and our AZAC Day jumper fiasco are good examples.

BUT

They did make a strategic decision to fix the forward pack first, and in my opinion rightly so, and went about developing a well balanced pack. We now get over the advantage line, offload, are able to kick from positions of advantage and there is a but of mongrel in the team (I want more but will settle with what we have for now)

I expect keeping Brooks over Hastings was a deliberate decision based on a combination of balancing the cap and the belief that Brooks would perform behind a good pack of forwards. Decision was proven wrong - can't change it - jog on. They also banked on AD being a capable 5/8 after an a full off season to prepare. I think both decisions were known, but acceptable risks. With hindsight I doubt that the Brooks decision would change simply because of the chunk of cap that we would have been up for to subsidise his contract. I don't think anyone could have predicted how badly AD would perform; plenty on this site had him earmarked as the saviour of the club over the off season so I guess not all blame lies at the feet of Sheens and Benji.

2023 was always going to be a development year and we all thought, as I am sure Sheens did, that the backline would be average. I don't think anyone believed that it would be so poor in attack in the oppositions 25. Not much we can do now but plan for 2024.

It definitely sucks to support a team doesn't have the necessary skill set to compete; however, for the first time in a long while I think we are on the right track. Sure we missed Munster and the dick from Parra, but it shows that Sheens and Co. know what we need next. If we buy a decent half and 5/8, a strike centre and upgrade a couple of plodders at the end of their contracts 2024 doesn't look so bad.

I know it doesn't address the right here, right now, problem; but, it does give me confidence that we are taking a deliberate approach to build a team that will be competitive. Staines, Tupou and AJ aren't the foundation to build our backline from but they will become good support players with a change of halves and a strike centre. If a quality fullback was to jump out of the woodwork we should take them too; but, I think Charlie has potential so am prepared to wait until later in the year before making that call.

The rest of the season isn't going to be pretty but there is light at the end of the tunnel and for once I don't think it is a train coming in the other direction. If we could land a young up and coming half in the near future I think we could accelerate our growth.

After the Roosters it's the Eels for me, Gutho and Moses telling our fans to swoosh after he kicked the conversion, it's like Muppet u just beat the worst team in the comp. Your club has tied up 3 - 4 mil into its spine, I think you need to worry less about the Tiger supporters and more about how your going to wiggle out of your new contract once Parra slide and the reality sets in you stuffed up.

You don't pick the team - it picks you.
Yes too true! When I was growing up you followed the team from the area in which you were born and raised, in my case Burwood/Strathfield, hence it was the Magpies. Never asked questions, never thought of supporting anyone else, it was just handed down from my parents to us kids as a given.

I struggled with supporting the merger at first because it just wasn’t the same, but I figured if I wanted to have a team to support in the sport that I loved since I was 3 years old then I had to get onboard. I simply couldn’t follow anyone else and I still couldn’t to this day.

With the way things are going for WT and have been for over a decade I honestly wish I could jump ship and go support another team, but I know my heart just wouldn’t be in it. I would rather just leave supporting the game altogether, which I did for a couple of years previous to this one. Not just because I was disappointed with my team, but I was completely disillusioned with the NRL itself.

I came back this season because I missed it, pure and simple. Sadly the NRL is still no better, it’s still very corrupt and unbalanced. However, when I saw our recruitment for the season, I had hoped that at least my team would be competitive and could possibly override the disappointment of the previous decade and a corrupt NRL. Unfortunately, it has gotten worse, way worse and I really didn’t think that was possible. I wish that my passion for my team and the game would just disappear forever.

The one that always got me was the flight deck.

Roosters brought and traded players like playing chips.
Done over Mitchell Pearce, who was looking like a Club for life halfback.

Eels, Panthers. Yes in ways they have been disloyal, in other ways they have stood by players. They have heart and soul. Easts, it's a business yet the players treat them with heart.

Has to be bags of money under the table.

Brandon smith acted like he was a lehpricorn with a pot of gold in sight as soon as he visited easts and only had tunnel vision for the chooks.
