Daine Laurie #237

Not a fan of Laurie. I don't think he is up to nrl standard as a fullback.

Players' Player last year? Is this right? Sure it wasn't the year prior, because from memory he's had one good year and a bad injury.

In any case, I don't find any satisfaction in what appears to be a combination of self-sabotage and/or callow judgement calls; which could also be he's just not the sharpest....

It's either that (benefit of the doubt) or he really doesn't care.

Whichever it is - and the Penrith jumper, Cobb's try 'like', drinking all day, gives the impression he just doesn't give a shit - I don't care if he's not at the tigers going forward (seems a fait accompli at this point), but I hate to see a kid wasting an opportunity like he has.

As someone else said a while ago, hopefully Gould will put his money where his big ugly mouth is and sign him.

I don't know Laurie or what he is thinking but if a young guy is voted players player of the year 6 months ago and now judging by this forum everyone thinks you are almost the worst player maybe it might do your head in . What then happens is apathy and poor performance
I believe he must have not performed that well not because of the comments on this forum which I feel just follow the like or dislike pattern regardless but Tim and co wouldn't drop the players player 6 months later for no good reason
Last year many games he tried his guts out .Can he be salvaged ?

I doubt he can be salvaged under Tim Sheens,to me it seems obvious that Laurie is on the outer with Sheens and when you are there you need to find another club.A decent coach and club will improve his game considerably imho

Who is this Hawkins chap , anyone got the run down on him
Dean Hawkins. halfback for Souths' cup side who's played a handful of first grade. essentially an Adam Reynolds clone. goes deep into the line to create space for his outside men and kicks well. very solid, dependable halfback. probably fits in reasonably well with Api at 9, Brooks at 6 and either Matamua or Bateman at 13, which simplifies his role immensely and is where I think he could be successful for us.

I think he will head back to Penrith. Thats where his heart has always been- even at State cup level he'd be happier there.

Cheers , wonder if the brains trust are sniffing around him sound like he goes ok

I will be very sad is Daine Laurie goes.

Look, we have to make tough decisions and we have WAY too many players who don't fit positions:
Daine Laurie, is he Fullback or 5/8. He is missing Fullback skills and I doubt he can hold down the position with every talented player in the comp wanting Fullback salary.

AD, Fullback? Centre? 5/8? or done in from ACL*

Naden, good player but wing or Centre?

Brooks not a halfback.

No one fits a position! no one.

*Yes I sadly think Doueihi is done due to Injury.

Things can change a lot in 2 years
I think Griffiths and Badge are gone... Roberts gone... Is Tahu still here
How about the other young players?
From those mentioned in that article:

Ronald Griffiths - Newcastle Women’s Coach + Men’s Indigenous All Stars Coach.

Timana Tahu - Works for NRL in promoting Indigenous elite pathways.

Gavin Badger - Works for NSWRL in promoting Indigenous referee development + South Sydney refereeing consultant.

James Roberts - Retired

Daine Laurie - Plays for Wests Tigers.

Tyronne Roberts-Davis - Plays for Nambucca Roosters.

Allan Fitzgibbon - Plays for Roosters reserve grade.

Kiah Cooper - Plays for Newcastle reserve grade.

Matt Smith - ???

Floyd Tighe - Plays for Newcastle reserve grade.

Brandon Tumeth - Plays for Wests Tigers (wasn't aware he was Indigenous).

For once, could there NOT be a ‘how Wests Tigers plans to’ article.
Can’t we just bloody try it, do it, and if it ends up being a fantastic choice THEN rave about it to the media.
Until then, nobody really believes what magical fluffy genius plan you have decided upon.
#cough, pathways.

Wests Tigers Pathways all seem to need a visa and British Airways tickets. Maybe they should partner up with an east London grade school for pathways.

I like and agree your analysis for me AD could be a good center not a fullback but needing his kicking game must be 5/8 academic now anyway
Naden was a winger at Penrith and Dogs
Agree Brooks is not a halfback because he is a hesitant decision maker but he can run ,tackle and is fast .These are attributes of a center
We recruited and fixed up our forwards but our backline sucks

I have no issue with that if they find the right players in Britain.
If they find indigenous players here, who fit the bill, have no issue there either.
What I don’t agree with is promoting indigenous players because they are indigenous. They must have the talent or potential, just like any Brits , or any other nationality, we bring.
Don’t forget we could probably open that grade school in the Pacific islands as well

Just looking at the stats for Laurie
Rd 1 run 219 m 1 try 1 line break 1 line break assist
Rd 2 run 191 m 6 tackle breaks
Rd 3 he's dropped ?
What exactly happened there ?
By the way those same stats show Talau as doing bugger all Rd 1 ,2
he forgets he is a full back and lets high balls bounce instead of attacking them. the forwards get their arms free and no full back in sight.
