Jahream Bula #269

Massive future for the dream jahream, really felt like his game went up another level throughout the game as he grew more in confidence! Really excited with the young boys tupou and the dream throw pole in there we actually do have a good group of young fellas. Lock them up and throw away the key now because roosters and other big name teams will be knocking on the door before we know it

The media has already labeled him a superstar.
I hope the pressure of that tag doesn't get to him as it did to Brooks, resulting in a ruined career.

Saw Joe Cool play one of his last games in Wollongong before joining the Magpies. Went to see what the fuss was about this bloke. I think his team got beat that day but you just knew he was special. Get the same feeling about young Bula. If he turns out anywhere near as good as Joe C we may have found our new Teddy.
Then I probably saw his next game. I think it was the first game of the season in 1974, Wests v Balmain at Lidcombe. Joe played fullback in reserve grade and Tony Ford played fullback in firsts. Joe Cool had an absolute shocker in reserves and Tony Ford had a pretty good game in firsts scoring 23 points. I said to my mate, who was a Balmain supported that Dorahy was so bad he would never play first grade at Wests. A few games later he was in firsts and never looked back.
Fun fact Wests beat Balmain 62 - 5 that day. I think my mate cried for a month.

How things change so quickly in rugby league, 4 weeks ago we were all scratching our heads about needing to buy a decent fullback, it's now obvious Laurie and douhie experiments were a failure this kid looks like one problem has been solved, club now needs to ship laurie off to Gus and see what we can get as a swap, douhie needs to be shopped around

Love this kid, he can go up so many gears
he's naturally talented athlete & works hard.

This clip for the final bomb is underrated,
his late foot work and how he adjusted
to make this catch looks easy but isn't
by any means. Basketball background Def
made a difference on this catch. Kids got it

😂😂😂

For sure - Plenty of catching high egg shaped balls off the foot in the wet in Basketball...
The basketball thing has been well blown out of proportion....

He's played Footy forever, Not a lot at Fullback I believe - But he has more Footy miles at decent levels coming through than Basketball...

Shuffling your feet at the scrimmage like that
is basketball training 101. But whatever bro

Helps that he's got a really good vertical
leap as well. I don't think it's being blown
out of proportion when we talk about him -
he's a great athlete because of it, he made
the switch back to league only recently &
he's named after arguably the GOAT Jordan

I said to myself last night before the game, if Bula can be safe tonight in these conditions and against Cleary then that all you can ask. Very happy he played safe and cane up with a nice touch for a try.
His defence is the most impressive to me. Nothing beats a good defensive fullback. When we discuss the greats of the position it always comes back to their defence.

I’ll give it to Sheens,
He’s always had a talent for knowing when a young lad is ready for first grade.I thought he was great against Manly ,but last night he went to another level. Both games have been horrendous conditions, against the two best Halfbacks in the NRL.
If I had to (stupidly) compare Bula to a great fullback ,I’d probably say someone like Tommy Turbo in the sense that he kind of just glides around, never looks like he’s busting his arse like Teddy or Slater.
Very effortless in a good way.Showed ball playing and some sort of kicking game last night. The confidence grows no doubt.

SMH.COM.AU - Why Cleary is a new fan of rookie Tigers No.1 Bula

By Christian Nicolussi

April 30, 2023 — 12.06pm

The only thing Jahream Bula butchered on Saturday night were the words to the Wests Tigers’ team song that had not been sung in forever.

The rookie fullback has quickly become a fan favourite – and can now even count Penrith superstar Nathan Cleary as an admirer.

Bula played a huge role in Saturday night’s upset of the year over premiers Penrith in wet and wild conditions in Bathurst.

It was the Tigers’ first win of the year and their first victory in 273 days.

Bula sheepishly told this masthead he was literally lost for words when it came to singing the team song, and he had to “mumble the whole time”.
sions were high, threw a pass for David Nofoaluma’s 100th career try, forced a dropout, and came up with a try-saving hit on Cleary nearing the hour mark.

Cleary cringed when reminded about the incident.

“He did well; it was ugly [from me],” Cleary said.

“I relaxed and thought I would slide over in the wet. But he tackled me well and the ball spurted out. It was a good tackle. I should have held the ball.

“He’s a good player, and he’s definitely built for first grade. He came up with a good pass for their try as well. He has a lot of confidence.”

Bula said he simply put his body on the line, and was grateful to come up with the tackle.

In just his second game in the NRL, Bula, a former basketball star, said he was still getting used to the physicality and getting dragged backwards when carting the ball up, while coach Tim Sheens simply wanted him to keep trying to support the forwards around the ruck.

Not since James Tedesco departed the club at the end of 2017 have the Tigers been able to settle on a regular No.1. But Bula already looks like the long-term solution to the all-important role.

Some at the Tigers remain convinced had Bula been available for selection from round one, the club would have won two or three more games because of his fitness and ability to cover ground at the back. He was only upgraded from a development contract and became free to play in the top flight a fortnight ago.

Even Luke Brooks, who was arguably the best on ground against the Panthers, loved Bula and said: “To be in your second game, and knowing Cleary has one of the best kicking games in the NRL ... he stood under them and got us out of trouble. He’s a great young kid with a big future.”

Foxsports.com.au - BULA’S DREAM CONTINUES

Tim Sheens has been criticised for a few selection calls this season, but he has absolutely nailed the move to make Jahream Bula the team’s fullback.“I saw him break the line and I knew I had to make a tackle but I was glad I made it,” Bula said on Fox League.

Bula looked comfortable against the Sea Eagles on debut last week but we was even better on Saturday night against the best team of the past few years.

The unheralded fullback was the best player on the field in the second half, laying on a try for Nofoaluma, forcing a line dropout with a clever kick and defusing every bomb sent his way.

But the highlight came with his side clinging onto a four-point lead when he reeled in Cleary, chopped him down short of the line and forced the ball to pop free when the rep star looked certain to put the Panthers back in front.

“I saw him break the line and I knew I had to make a tackle but I was glad I made it,” Bula said on Fox League.

“It feels so good coming off an 0-7 start we knew it wasn’t going to be easy but we got there in the end, it’s a great feeling.

“I was pretty confident because I had a pretty good pre-season, I’ve been around the boys a lot so I felt like I was part of the team.

“I was a bit nervous (under the high ball) but we practice it throughout the week
