Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Before everyone crucifies Schuster as a wasted talent- think for a second about the 18 months of poor player discipline coming out of that club.

I suspect there's a rot at Manly & the media brush over it.

For those saying Schuster is lazy- this is the same Schuster that was playing great under noted disciplinarian Des Hasler, right? Maybe the issue is more the current coaching staff, who have a habit of creating chaos in the clubs they infect?

Des Hasler, Noel Cleal, Scott Fulton all moved on from the club. Just put some perspective on it. That's like saying Roach, Pearce & Jack or Dorohy, Raudonikis & Donnelly.

Schuster was playing just fine under Des. Now, Josh Alioia is a club spokesman.

I'd take Schuster under Tim Sheens just fine.
He played great in 2021, off the back of Turbo having the most incredible individual seasons ever. The reason Manly are off him is because he COULD become elite, but he's lazy, it's actually good Club Management to call him out and try and get him to reach his potential.
They did beat the Storm 2 weeks ago.

The issue wwth Schuster for WT $$$ vs attitude, we typically lose these bets. Maybe our chair can do an interview revealing details all of any offer so we are all in the loop.

Talented, yeah, extremely, but I just don't see Schuster being as committed as say Bryce Cartwright in turning it around, and he took years to do so.

I would rather pay Doueihi $600k to watch players run past him to score tries, than paying Schuster an additional $200k to do the same.
He’s also fat.

Think we need to get a motel room for Shuster and Seyfarth. You’d hope the love child would be a generational talent with a great work ethic (knowing our luck we’d end up with a no talent lazy hack).
We'd just end up with a fat ranga.

I thought he was fat too but in the last game he played, the only thing fat about him was his head and bank account.

Has that puffy neck / head look
His body wasn't fat by any means though.

He was pretty cooked that game though.
Didn't look up for it.
Limping and whatnot.

Then why should it be different here?
Ask him what he reckons Belly would do to make him get fit, I reckon he’d say digging trenches, then hand him a shovel. When you’ve worn the shovel head off you get the big bonus.
Yeah, a new shovel head.

Got an axe off the old man back in about 1981 when I move from home, he'd had it for years himself before giving it to me.

Still got the same axe, its had a couple of new heads and about half a dozen new handles put on it in the time I've had it.

I'll probably pass it on to my son one day, family heirloom.

I agree with this.

I reckon there is a massive divide right down the guts of the Manly playing group.

You have the God Botherers, who will not wear the ribbon with Aloiai as their leader.
Then you just have the regular lads, who want to play footy and live a normal happy life.
Funnily enough, Alioai didn't mind theatening Wakeham after the Tigers game.

A break away from that may be the best thing for a young bloke being pulled in different directions.
And if food is your go to "release" when stressed, he should get out of there ASAP.

Love it.

I agree in this mate..

To add I would be willing to accept him if Sheen and co wanted him. If your been honest all the 1st grade signings over the last 18 months have been excellent unlike the past. They have cleaned out a lot of dead wood and it's shows IMO. Manly would need to contribute some cash but we have not overpaid for players for a while now and Moses was the only one we offered big cash to but as you can see it would of been worth it.

This week all teams in Brisbane so signings may happen this month.

No to Schuster. The guy is not reflective of the work ethic we are working to.

Absolute no.

This is the big issue to me. If he played to his ability and worked hard and was a complete professional he'd be worth a risk but I worry we get a guy who is the opposite of what we want to promote.

I think a lot of Manly fans don't like Aloiai and Schuster. Schuster is apparently on big dollars as well.

I'd say it's a bit of a red flag if he can't get his weight down as a first-grader. I'd persevere with Wakeham - big wraps as a youngster - he just needs the right environment...

I'll find the video, but i was watching an analysis done by a sports data scientist looking at what makes the best teams successful, and it's continuity of players so they can build understanding...sounds like common sense, but when you think:

Melbourne killed it -> as did QLD
Barcelona killed it - Won the WC with Spain with the Barcelona midfield
Wallabies won the WC when most players were with QLD and Brumbies

Building combinations is key...Wakeham has talent - we need to nurture it, not sign some guy who may or may not be able to resist the urge turn off in to the Macccas drive-thru.
