Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Schuster has game breaking ability which we don't have a lot of but he is apparently on 800k and is a disruptive influence who has problems with his weight.

So many red flags in this potential signing.

Given AD is out for the whole of next year ( as per NRL Physio ) I’ll be shocked if Schuster isn’t here soon in a swap for Talau

Manly will bluff that they don’t want JS to leave but they’ll just be trying to get the WTs to cover the whole of next years 800k for JS .
Do we need Schuster and his baggage? The guy undoubtedly has skill but he's a mental midget and I think he would be detrimental to our squad.

That and coaches Ego....
Plenty of coaches that are of the opinion they can get the best out of an under-performing player....
unless the guy wants to run some laps and do some work in the effort areas then no thanks...
Maybe Benji can improve on Schuster's ability to fire a no look pass into the stands??

A risk we don't need to take.

Our team is on the cusp of already being very good. We just need a halfback.

We cant break teams down when in the redzone with Brooks,Wakeham or Doueihi. Is it a risk no doubt but is it a risk worth taking seeing as though we can easily get field position but cant convert?
I would argue yes but i'd want him on a reduced rate and give him a 2 yr contract to prove his worth not 3 or 4 yrs like we seem to hand around like lollies.

We are losing Talau next year anyway. Offer a reduced contract plus Talau to get it over the line. We can walk away with something or walk away with nothing next year. Just depends how much Schuster is on, if we pay 4 - 450k, I'm OK with that. That's not a lot on the modern cap to lose if he doesn't put in.
I hope we can get the best out of him if he comes, but his laziness is a huge worry. We desperatly need the creativity near the try line, but if he does or doesn't come im fine with it either way. Just don't know what we're getting.

At his price point, He'll cost 2 Matamuas....
The more I digest it, The more I think it will happen.
Not a fan at all... But what can you do.
I don’t reckon I’ve seen enough of him to know, is Schuster a gun 5/8 who can create in the red zone (like we need)?
Has he ever taken a game by the scruff of the neck and won the game in the heat of battle for manly or has he thrashed a side from start to finish yet or even gone bonkers in the 2nd half to get manly the win from behind.

I'd be comfortable at $600-650 k but even less would be better depends on how much we want/need him compared to how much they'd tip in. Talau for Shuster this year seem an obvious win for both parties.

I think if we go with Schuster, it would have to only be 2023 and 2024. Halfback is more important but we need a solution to 6 as well.

There is too much risk to go beyond 2024 with him IMO. We have masses of salary cap space this year and next and I don’t see any $1M player becoming available before 2025 so it is possibly worth a punt for 18 months.

The two best options halfback-wise is Walker or Hunt. Opposite sides of the experience spectrum yet upsides to both. HOWEVER, neither is officially off-contract but both are in interesting circumstances...

If we beat the Dragons this week, Hook is gone. And with that, potentially Hunt is available. But that's a slim chance.

Walker is obviously on the outer at the Roosters but is technically contracted so can't talk with other clubs. Would look good in Orange (and black and white of course).

Interesting times.
