Schuster is currently an unfit version of the textbook, modern day, ball playing 13. He also, clearly, has the skillset to play second row or 5/8th and so is versatile.
Fitness and defence you can make strides in relatively quickly, provided attitude is right. Attacking prowess is a different proposition; far more innate, when a player is referred to as 'naturally gifted', more often than not, people are referring to their attacking ability.
We struggle in attack. He is as naturally a gifted attacking footballer as we have seen in the last 10 years.
He has deficiencies, but they are of the type that are improvable.
To me, he's a risk. A decent risk. But a risk worth taking, provided, we have in place a competent, game-managing halfback.
Still a 13 who can play 6 for mine.
