Luke Brooks #167

Can’t see us having both Brooks and Schuster as neither are game managers.
We need a halfback not another running five eighth.
When Schuster was in the clear after about 10 metres he was looking for someone to pass it too. If he was a runner he could have finished off the play with a try.

I disagree, more than any other attribute, the 2 halves need to compliment each other by being a combination force.
Anyhoo what’s the difference between a running half and a game managing half?
One gets tackled more often.
That’s why there are 2 of them.

Brooks and Schuster would both run round in circles like headless chooks, putting poor kicks in and confusing their runners.
It’s either one or the other but certainly not both.

Can’t understand why Brooks hasn’t been re-signed already. Must be looking for combo halves pairing?
I've heard that negotiations are still only preliminary but already at a stand still. The club believes Brooks has few options and are thus low balling him. Brooks wants to stay but has an informal offer to go to Canberra for significantly more than Tigers offer.
From A guy in player management office that does not represent brooks

Low balling him? He's been paid overs for the last few years. He should take the contract and give back to the club.

If he wants to go to Canberra then so be it

Id rather Brooks every day of the week to Schuster. Cant stand players who are not effort players but get paid a fortune because of the ability to occasionally pull off a hero play. Not a player you need to get you off the bottom of the ladder a player that will keep you there.
Yes, despite his limitations, Brooks cares and tries.
Schuster is a downhill skier who looks great when Cherry, Turbo and the pack have already broken the opposition.

It must be a real quandary for Brooks?
He has been quoted as saying he will be 'selfish" this time around. So I guess that means no more mr nice guy regarding back ended remuneration? I think it could be difficult for him not to play for WT but the Raiders offer could be too good to knock back. Ricky was one of the best halfbacks in the game, he brought that RU style long clearing pass from the ruck which gave his backs space and time, plus his kicking game was second to none.

Not really ... a running five eighth will still look for a faster player than himself to continue the play.

100% this. Our wins are effort wins. The last thing we want to do is to bring in a player who would taint that culture. If there's one thing that Madge did, was breaking the back of that cultural shift. We can't go backwards.

Where did he say that? I've only seen snippets saying his dream is to stay.

Brooks is in all honesty an above average NRL half at this point in his career. I prefer him as the non dominant half but in our team he is clearly the best half we can field and he is considerably better than every option that is being discussed as realistic alternatives. Brooks is much better than Schuster.

I can't stand though our players continually screwing us over for every dollar. If he doesn't want to do a deal that is favorable for us he should go. Let's not have another Nofo situation.

This is a bad situation though because it's similar to the Moses situation in that we aren't getting a better player and the halves are such key positions.

I hope we only sign him for unders. I'd hope that he wants to sign on that basis as well.

I saw him say that around June/July 22. I agree with him, he has a young family and he didnt get a lot of kudos for helping the Tigers out of their salary cap mess, with Maguire operating on a cap of around $6m, roughly 65% of other teams' caps. Its history now...Maguire got sacked because he couldn't get a reserve grade side into the 8, while Brooks copped abuse for the same plus people took a negative view of him helping out the club with his back ended remuneration.

Its often said the big advantage to a Half is having forwards going forward, but their defensive work in protecting their halves never gets a mention. Its a team game and each player needs to know more about others in his team than those in the opposing team.

You only know (Or claim) half the story?

He took unders to fill the club with Nuffies when the others left.
He's on overs now, As compensation for the years he was Unders.

He's square with the house now, And will get decent halves market value (If he goes to Market)
Everyone is forgetting a Dally M winning Half is moving to play centre next year....
Doesn't matter what you think he's worth - He's is going to get paid.
At the Tigers or elsewhere.....

Raiders need a Half, Cows will be looking for an upgrade to replace Chad 'One good year in the last 7' Townsend....
If we don't re-sign Brooks, We'll be left with the Scraps - Or Shuster / Wakeham....
(And you think you know pain now...)

Yeah, I think he's changed his tune since then. Maguire ball wasn't helping his game and Johns was knocking. It seems like he's in a different headspace now.

Hopefully some of "fans" stop carrying on like muppets so he doesn't need additional money to make it worthwhile.
