Origin 2023

As a person who lived most of his life in NSW I can tell you that it really does mean more to be a Queenslander.
2011 Brisbane floods and thousands of Queenslanders, without prompting spontaneously turn up in the flooded areas to help. The "mud army", that's what being a Queenslander means.
You'll never get it until you live here.
Oh, you mean how the town of Cobargo on the south coast of NSW rallied together and supported each other during the 2019/2020 bushfire crisis? Or how civilians were out in tinnies and kayaks rescuing their neighbours in the 2022 NSW floods? Believe it or not, there are good people who do good things in both states....

As a person who grew up in country NSW and has lived in Brisbane for 11 years and have seen both, respectfully.... what?

I'm not sure what circles you run in, what regions of NSW you're talking about or who you've based this observation on, but whilst Origin is big up here in QLD, it is equally matched in country NSW.

There's no magic in the QLD jersey. There's no more passion up here north of the border. QLD have just had a happy knack over the years of delivering in the big moments and with their backs against the wall. It's bloody admirable, and I wish that was NSW's legacy, but it ain't.

This isn't a fantasy novel.

Here's the difference.
When you grow up in NSW you have a strong connection to your suburb and maybe your local area. I never really thought about any connection to NSW as a whole.
Queenslanders are primarily connected to their state, local areas are secondary.
The Penrith boys are a great example. They'll play harder to represent Penrith than they ever will NSW.

Agree re. Luiai, can’t stand his arrogance. You can add he’d play harder for Samoa too. That’s a whole new issue!

Latrell, Turbo, and Murray are the most important players for NSW. I reckon they win if those three are playing and in the correct positions.
Turbo I’m iffy on.
Too many injuries have mucked with his head a bit.
I wouldn’t pick him again. Like Teddy, his time is done at a high level. Still has something to offer, but can’t be trusted to do it every game anymore. Graham is a gun centre and on the up. He needs to play.
Graham and Latrell in.
Against popular opinion, I’d leave Young in. He has what it takes, just needs to be managed and used properly. The occasion overwhelmed him and he got carried away. Where are the NSW mentors? The guy can play footy and regularly does the 1% stuff that wins the Raiders games. I’d test him again.

NSW lost that game by lacking intensity and control .. !! To me it appears that SOO level is too much for both Luai and Cleary .. then Tedesco .. can I say that the speed of SOO has over taken Tedesco .. ??

A winning side needs at least one of its half's to control and lead the side .. aka what DCE and Munster did last night. With 6 minutes to go NSW was up by 2 .. and they couldnt close it out .. no one stepped up to control the last 6 mins for NSW .. normal you can hear the Captain barking out orders .. but last night Tedesco was silent and constantly out of position at the back.

The Fox .. what's the use of having one of the fastest players in the game when they never had any plays that lead to an outside player getting involved .. the only time the Fox had the ball in his hand was when he came in doing a hit up .. !!

Freddy wont drop and replace anyone .. only change will be Latrell back into the team.

QLD probably takes Origin more seriously because they don't have much else up there.

In all seriousness though, this word gets thrown around a lot but it's more to do with "culture". Slater, Smith and JT get Origin, Fittler doesn't. He played 20 years ago now and the game has moved past him.

Slater and Smith are probably two of the smartest and most hard working people in Rugby League with extremely good work values. We thought we were done being haunted by them but they will linger on.

There's no magic in the QLD jersey, but these two make the dumb QLD players believe there is ans that's the difference.

Our players for the last 20 years have been glory seekers and Fittler has enabled them even more in last 5.

As always, and understandably, a disappointing loss is scrutinised to the nth degree to try and pinpoint the silver bullet that will immediately reverse the result.

And, as always in football, it was a case of one team took their chances and the other didn't.

NSW made some key mistakes, were held up over the line twice and made some costly defensive errors. QLD on the other hand took every chance they got and were deserving winners.

Bring on Game 2.

Personally I think QLD should be given some real credit for their line speed in defence. Yeo, Cleary and Luai had zero time to create space for their outside men. QLD were in their face in numbers all night
Guys like. Cotter, Carrigan and Tino lead the defence. They never get tired. Amazing stamina.

I have a theory on why TPJ was picked 'out of the blue' for NSW. It seemed to me to be a strange selection from the get-go. I wonder if Gould put pressure on Fittler to select TPJ to demonstrate coming to the Bulldogs was a positive step from a player's career perspective. I wouldn't put it past Gould for one moment to put his priorities above what's best for NSW and Fittler always seems to be in awe of Gould and seems prepared to do his bidding. We'll probably never know.

Lol you have taken this quite hard.
The superior NSW backline was nullified through consistent swarming defence and beaten by clever ballplaying and speed.
The huge NSW forward pack was contained and eventually beaten by a workhorse pack who never gave up despite having their plans thrown into disarray through injury and the worst sin binning in the code’s history.
NSW were gifted more than their fair share of cheap territory through handling errors and penalties yet could only score the 1 legitimate try through organised ballplaying.
QLD ran harder, tackled harder and kicked further. They didn’t panic and they kept attacking the NSW edges. Slater outcoached Fittler, whose only plan was to bomb our inexperienced back 3. The grit of the boys to push on under fatigue and run away with the win despite many of them playing out of position was also commendable.
It was a very good win under the circumstances.
FFS why wouldn't the guy take it hard.

Piss poor effort by a bunch of has been pea hearts, coached (if you could call it that) by a clueless pea brain.

Couldn't put the foot on the throat while leading and virtually being gifted the game with minutes to go against a team down a player due to an extremely dodgy sin binning and to add insult to injury, allow the opposition to score 2 tries to run away with the game.

You should be stunned and gob smacked by a team losing a game like that but no one here should be surprised having seen Wests Tigers pull off similar efforts over the years.

Apparently it was the Penrith boys who wanted him, and of course Fittler does whatever Nathan wants.
The Penrith connection is what's costing NSW. That along with Tedesco. There is no creativity there at all. They are machine like at club level, but Origin is a different game.

NSW won't win until Fittler, Alexander, Luai, Crichton and Yeo are gone.

Cleary is slow and boring, at this level he needs X factor at 1 and 6, otherwise he is useless.

Latrell has to play 1, with Hynes or even Walker at 6.

Yeo plays too sideways and is easily the most overrated forward the game has seen in the past 20 years.

Fittlers obsession with Penrith will cost him his coaching career and I couldn't be happier. I hate the bloke.

Would have been a great option for Hasler to have been the Queensland coach.

After the disgraceful refereeing and dodgy decisions by Klown and the bunker he would be calling for multiple investigations.
I cant believe how Klien continues to get the gig every time there's a QLD team playing? Was he a Gummersole apprentice?

As a QLDer I thought it was a great game and result.
I thought Api played really well and should retain his spot but its Fittler so who knows.
I thought the Frizell try was a try but also could not understand the sin bin at all.
Would have expected their halves to close out that game when up 2 and 13 on 12 and 8mins to go.

Side note the players might have needed longer spikes as a lot of slipping around out there.

I would like to see Stefo get a run off the bench and Klemmer but that could just be my Tigers eyes talking.
