Getting caught at dummy half twice when attacking the line in the first 20mins was the definition of poor.
I think we made the right choice around Simpkin and Liddle... but yeah, on borrowed time.
Has a few positives to his game but another one who hasn't seem to really developed much.

I actually think because of Liddle & Covid it hampered his development. He just isn’t getting miles in the body / decent amount of gametime.
He struggled tonight big time & he also did last time we played the Raiders.
Would TDS for 10-15mins off the bench offer more or like for like - probably. Be interesting what they do or if we use it for a player swap.

Api wasn't supposed to come on so early in the game but the kid's so shit Sheens had no choice.

Liddle is playing better football in a worse side that Jake..
neither had a future here, so there’s no real right or wrong decision for the club - it’s more a moral decision around development for the player, what they’re on and what we can get for them.
We have Api, he won’t change clubs again after this contract (unless by chance he goes back to Penrith) but he’s club captain here and I haven’t seen anything that makes me think he wouldn’t extend to see Tallyn through…
I think we’d have got a good trade for Jake, probably still could… he’s not kicking on in nrl (or ressies) good kid - a change might do him good…
Broncos could use a player like Jake.
Wonder if we could get some deal out of that.....

I think Simpkin is getting better with sharper passing and more guile. He had some really sharp well placed passes for the halves to run onto. Still too slow and gets confused and significant difference between his play when he gets tired.
I'd say he was better than most backup hookers out there and would easily get a contract as a squad player in every NRL club.
We're used to Farah and now Api, so watching humans play the position the last few years has highlighted how good those two were/are. The whole game lifts with Api on the field. That's more to how good Api is rather than a particular criticism of Simpkin.

Just saw him slow and confused and caught twice at marker inside the first 5 minutes…
You’d think fatigue wouldn’t play a part in that.
Most players have moments that aren’t so good… I can wear that, there’s just not much upside to him, and it’s been obvious since sheens got here that he’s not the long term option.

surely there’s a back rower / utility option in the 17 that can handle a few minutes at hooker if required - if there isn’t, get one…
As it is, we’re carrying a 2nd string outside back and a specialist hooker on the bench… we need to turn that into one bench carry and add some more impact.
Either way, my point was and still is - Simpkin’s future lies not at our club.

Given that Da Silva was in the squad, I'd suggest Simpkin's time is getting shorter.
I think he's a solid option. But given we have only solid options in the halves, we need more from the #9.
Simpkin would probably fit a team like the Broncos or even the Titans. My instinct was to suggest the Dolphins as well. Either way, he holds value. But he was at the club at the wrong time.
Rua could act as the bridge between Api & Da Silva, as he also holds value at #13 if required.
