Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The 2being shopped around that I’m a bit disappointed with are TT and Blore.
Tommy has been above average in the last few games, Blore I think there’s more upside with him seems to have fallen out of favour with Sheens.
You still need to replace the players who leave, maybe with cheaper versions.
Hopefully they know what they are doing, history doesn’t give me confidence.
Talau was always going to take a little while given he missed the entirety of the season last year and had a few weeks out after the Knights game. once back in the side he's slowly improved week on week, culminating in his best game last week.

his current trajectory could see him become a very decent left centre by the end of the year, which will be disappointing if he heads to Manly, considering we helped him to rehab and have now given him plenty of time onfield.

Blore is a disappointing one. I'm not sure what they expected with him given he's played approx 20 games in four years. I feel as if he's a class above in Cup and is a victim of being a specialist backrower as opposed to a utility like Kepaoa. he must be on a deal that doesn't reflect his output, that's the only thing I can think of. it's a loss that could really come back to bite us unfortunately.

Its scary isnt it... Im the same... (could be Stockholm syndrome)

I liked what Chairman Lee Said in His interview "If it makes our club better, ten we move forward".

If the chairman was being honest we can expect the imminent resignations of him and the entire board because that would be the easiest and bestway for the club to move forward. His weasel words do not fill me with any confidence

Gus said something the other day and I agree. The sin bin didn't cause us to score because they were a man down. It caused us to score because it took the raiders niggle out of the game and caused them to start playing footy, which we were better at. It should of happened way earlier as they were laying through our ruck, tackling our kickers, pushing our players in the back (Brooks an example, Johnny fired up a few times) both teams were offside all game but we seemed to be the only team being punished until the end. The 8-0 6 again count isn't because the refs were trying to get us the win... if anything they should of been penalties as there were a few in our half.

Before we scored 3 and a field goal in 10 minutes against them they had conceded 2 tries total in their last 2 sin bins. We almost doubled that in 1. We were the much better team.
We were the better team statistically. We couldn’t score enough to win and that’s the bottom line.
3 & 9 is our record this year. They are doing enough to win games, yet lose 3 out of every 4. Not acceptable.

I was impressed with Jay Kirk watching the highlights of the Flegg game. He is also a local junior with size, excellent pace and can finish a try. Feledy and Kirk seem to have a good centre/wing combination building. It would be nice for him to come through our system to the NRL.
I like him more than Scolari. Watched Kirk last year and was impressed with his attack and defence. Has put on some muscle this year. Scolari was given a lot of hyp. in the past, but this year (after acl opp) has been so so.

Scolari was dire in the trials. I know he was coming back from injury but he won't make NRL in my opinion.

Tapine re-signed with the Raiders long term,.
Luki is also locked up with the Cowboys, but I’d say he’s taken big unders to stay with them as they have others forwards on big money contracts such as Taumalolo, Leilua, Nanai, Cotter etc.
So making Luki’s manager aware he’s worth a lot more than he’s getting wouldn’t be a bad ploy.
The one I like who’s also under contract until the end of 2024 with the Warriors is Josh Curran. I’d be near certain he too would be on a contract far less than his true vulue and being from Sydney would surely be interested in returning to Sydney with a contract upgrade.
I'd be happy to sign Frizz but I am with you on Josh Curran. I'd have him before Frizz. He is very much like Ruben Cotter if used correctly

I was under the impression that it is after serving for 8 continuous years at one club. I just looked it up and found conflicting rules though so I am really unsure
In 2022 the rules were:
$0.188m – Veteran and Developed Player Allowance for eligible players who were either developed by the Club prior to becoming NRL players and / or have been a Top 30 player for at least 8 years at the Club or have been a Top 30 player for at least 10 years across the game

I believe the allowance has gone up to 650k with the rise in the salary cap. Of course the NRL is very sketchy on these kind of details. The only quote from the NRL is:

The development list will increase from $240,000 to $650,000, capturing the relevant development player payments.

So who knows what that's supposed to cover. Is this for development players? Seems a huge salary increase for these kids if so. Does this include the long servin/developed player allowance??

And for those who weren't sure nearly all players got an 18% pay increase this season:

As a result of today’s announcement, players who have the standard form ratchet clause in their playing contract will receive an 18% increase to their playing fee, with the increase to be effective from 1 November, resulting in a well-timed year-end bonus.

My theory is the Tommy Talau to Manly rumour and apparent availability of Blore, Nofa & Simpkin to other clubs is to try to find an arrangement that Manly is happy with to release Latu & Samuela Fainu (and join Sione) at the Tigers.

Samuela is a 2nd Row/Middle on a similar trajectory to Blore a couple of seasons ago. Blore is more experienced and would be more valuable to Manly for immediate success I reckon.

Talau managed by Isaac Moses had plenty of wraps on him as a teenager, ravaged by injury but showing potential now. Could also be more valuable for immediate success.

The Fainu brothers are all managed by Mario Tartak who has a good relationship with Fulton and manages many of the highly touted WT juniors coming through.

I just can’t see Hunt entertaining the idea?
Surely he’s seen enough at Dragons to get a good understanding of Tigers.
Dragons sacked a perfectly good coach.
I honestly never thought I would see the day a club had to chase hard for a coach only to be turned down, but there you go.
I agree, I don’t see Hunt wanting ti come here. Only if he bought in on the path, show him the stats that prove we are just a quality half away from a to 8 to top 4 spot. All our stats show this e.g. time in oppositions 20, percentage with ball, etc, etc. if sheens can sell him the dream, then hopefully we are a chance!

Scolari is a great competitor but obviously his career has been impacted by injury. I hope he has a good run now.

I feel Brooks has never been able to use his 2nd rower properly his whole career..
I seem to recall that at the back end of 2018 Brooks formed a lethal combination with Garner on the left edge. Brooks was throwing great little no-look passes to Garner running an outside-in line. They terrorised the opposition in their red zone and, while it lasted, it was our most effective attacking play.

Madge assumed control in 2019 and moved Garner to the right and the combo was lost. This was a poor decision in my opinion because, as Warren Ryan might have said, it was the only feather we had to fly with.

I’m no expert on the subtleties of attacking play, but it seems to me that if two players are to form a good combination it requires both to play their part to make it work. If for example, a back rower is not a hole runner or a good line runner, then holding the half back responsible for the back rowers lack of line breaks is incorrect.

I’m simply pointing out that your comment above is incorrect. Perhaps the fact that Garner is the only back rower that Brooks has struck up this type of combo with is partly his fault. But I would suggest also that the back rowers he has played inside should shoulder some of the blame as well.
