Brandon Wakeham #267

Making things up like Brooks was the best out there? Making stuff up like that? We can all do it.

Hang on you said people said Brooks had a Blinder (no one did) and continue to only cite Brooks as the reason we lost (which he wasn’t). Also said Wakeham has only played 10 games.

It’s very clear you’re making things up.

Penrith got rid of Laurie for a reason too...
Same reason why we're likely getting rid of him.

Brooks being injured really hurts us as we lack depth.

Probably see Wakeham to 7 and Toa to 6... Naden to centre.

Brooks was great tonight, my two favourites were when he ended up with the ball with a two on one on the sideline and instead of drawing and passing to the guy outside him to send him over the tryline, he looked up like a dear in headlights and threw the ball into row 10. My absolute favourite is when he couldn't find touch off the penalty in the first half. Wakeham and Talau were worse by far, but Brooks was nowhere near one of our best. He offered nothing, even the kick at the end of the set has no hang time, our guys can't get to it. You would think maybe he would try something different.

I have been an advocate for Wakeham, but his prob has ALWAYS been he throws in an absolute shocker whenever he finally seems ready to go up a level...

And, right on cue, tonight was a shocker. He looked several paces below everyone and was slow in everything he did. An absolute barry crocker.

This is why the Dogs gave up.

He is at an age now where nights like tonight can't happen if he is going to make it. He was so bad tonight he may well have cost himself a contract. Nights like tonight are why he had no offers as late as January.
I’d keep him on the cheap for back up which is what we probably originally signed him for.

I think i remember reading/hearing somewhere that Simpkin has trained at 7. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up there to fill the gap. I know, it sounds awful.

Can't imagine TT getting a start if Naden has a good game this weekend.

Whatever Shenji throws out there it will have to do.

I like him...but he has to take the leap and mature.

I have said this a few times here, but Madden gives you 5 or 6 out of 10 every week. Nothing flash. But never a 1/10.

Wakeham can give you an 8 or even a 9...a complete rarity for a back up. He can play like he did v the Cows and you think 'finally...it's clicked'.

And then, right on cue, comes the 1/10 game.

This has been the pattern his 'whole' career. Literally.

Players have it don’t. He is 24 and 35 nrl games into his 5 season career. Has been around NRL squads and training for a while now. Their was a reason he wasn’t on a scouting boards.

Look on a minimum contract this season we have got value out of him already but if we bank on him as a top 3 halves option next season and beyond we have major roster & recruitment issues.

I think his lack of pace is a killer too. Our defensive structure fell apart tonight (maybe titans extra pace exposed us?) and he got caught out many times.

Wakeham himself has said he wasn't preparing himself to be playing NRL this year. It's only because we're a shambles of a Club that he's actually playing. He's playing to his potential.
That’s interesting. Don’t players push themselves to be the best they can every season?

Now did anyone notice Toa in at 5/8, looked cool and comfortable( albeit small minutes) so Wakeham to half and Toa to 5/8, Naden in for Talau and Simpkin for API plus the kid on the bench.
What else can we do ?
Yes I noticed Toa and totally agree with you. Not many minutes but they were good. Selective passing. Other changes, especially punting that meathead Talau are sound.

No, he didn’t think he was going to be playing NRL because he didn’t have any contract from any team.

Said he would’ve just taken up a trade in 2023 until our offer came.

Cheers for that. I do have a lot of respect for him overall. He’s having a crack for us. Hope he can respond 🤞🏻. we’ll need it.

Don’t agree that he was that bad, not finding touch and the pass over the side line were both poor. But his kicking game was good from pretty bad field positions, he also ran the ball strongly and almost cut through in several occasions. Apart from a few errors he had a solid game.

He actually looked to me like he relished the change. Interesting eh, maybe he’s been harbouring designs on the 6 but never got a chance. Anyway, we’ll see.

Wakeham wasn’t good tonight, but neither was his experienced halfback.
Brooks had a 46% tackle efficiency! That deserves a smack in the mouth.
