Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Leaving a club is a bit like when you die.
People remember you as a whole lot better than you really were.
Joe was a bench player/ reserve grader and suddenly he's Cam. Murray.
If the NRL was the movie Rocky, Joe would be Spider Rico.
You don't give a player away mid season if you don't get an equally good or better one when you are sitting on the bottom of the ladder - unless you are a coach who is under no pressure to win.

No one has put him in that class , so ur way of the mark , he is a class 1st grade player unlike what we have to call on now

Didn't Ofahengaue want to take up an offer with the Eels? I have no issue with releasing him. I liked him but he wasn't in our top 17 at the time of departure. He would have been on a healthy contract as well which is another issue.

Cameron Murray and Victor Radley are 13s of more moderate proportions who compete, like Bateman. Sometimes we get caught up with size. Bateman did work hard last night, perhaps harder than he should have due to a couple of his team mates not performing. His mobility compared to a prop playing 13 eg Ofahengaue was noticeable.
I assume (especially with the rumours going around) Ofa wanted the Eels offer because he was told he is not in Marshall's plans.
Similr size yes, but Bateman doesnt tackle like those two.

Joe only re signed last Sept till 25 on good coin. He wasn't going anywhere.

I'll add, I don't know why no coaches have players alternate positions for different parts of the game anymore.

I wouldn't mind Bateman swapping between edge (always in defence) and middle at different stages in attack.

There was a time when such interchanging was common. As was young outside backs slotting into ball playing roles in attacking situations or hiding smaller halves on the wing in defence. Now it seems you are assigned your position and you adapt or you're gone.
All our players can play more than one position - T Sheens

What do we have that's good or at least been playing good for last couple of months
Bula, Nofo ,Toa , Tupou ,Wakeham , Pole , Bateman ,Papalii ,Klemmer ,Utoikimano ,Twal ,Simpkin ( not 80 min)
Leaving Brooks and Api out due to long term injuries
So we've got 12 of our 17 need the other 5
Naden maybe( must stop crazy tackles)
Others AJ ,Blore ,Seyfarth , Laurie ( not sure these 4 up to it )
TDS don't know ? Staines when will he be back but not even signed for next year
My summary When Brooks and Api back we are 2 short of a full deck without them we are 4 short . Need 2/3 class recruits

A lot of supporters like to bag Seyfarth, but someone tell me what he does wrong ?
Makes plenty of tackles and doesn’t miss, willing to run the ball at any time, he’s a big body that makes decent post contact metres and a constant decoy runner when he doesn’t get the ball.
Add he can pass and use the ball well when required.
He’s the one who should be replacing Joffa and we are off our heads if we do not value and keep him at the club.

Maybe
But now we have no Joe - come on down ??

He’s a decent depth player but he gives away a lot of penalties, hands are average and his runs lack impact at NRL level.

If we want an actual lock as opposed to a 13 playing prop, Matamua is the only one close to ready, but I think he is also 12 months away from consistent NRL.

I agree with some of your points, but cannot agree his runs lack impact. Maybe a season or two back they did, but this season he’s carrying defenders and his post contact metres are good.
Also not seeing a problem with his hands, can’t even remember the last time he made an error.
Not saying he’s worth a lot of money and not saying he’s a definite starter, but for his contract value I think he’s value for money as a regular 14-17 who stiffens the defence and does not let anyone down when he’s on the field.
Ideally we need a big mobile tackle busting player somewhere in our starting back row to compliment the more tradesman type of players we have in Bateman and Papali’i.
No doubt Matamua has plenty of talent and potential, but he’s not even standing out in KOE Cup, he needs to start doing that before being ready for NRL.
