Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yet Melbourne have their “coffee test” where they have to meet every player to assess their character before offering contracts and somehow it doesn’t stop them.

Once you’re introduced to the Storm culture it probably would do a lot to sway you. Plus, Melbourne has better coffee. 😆

Is it just me or is there part of everyone that hopes the NRL threaten to kick us out of the comp like South’s? I reckon that’s the only way this club will change.
No its not just you
The NRL won't persist with 17 teams for long .They would prefer one less Sydney team and two more from elsewhere. eg Qld ,Png ,Pacifica ,Central Coast and God I hope not Perth who don't follow NRL
The prime candidate would be who is stringing a few spoons together and is generally regarded as a basket case . The man at the helm of the Wests Tigers should take note and take responsibility .

As a backup plan, we could make a late play for Ethan Sanders.

Sports Con in Daily Tele:

Penrith have pulled out of the race for Parramatta young gun Ethan Sanders. The Panthers met with Sanders earlier this month but have opted against pursuing the half many experts predict to be the game’s next superstar.

Canberra have made a big play to entice him away from the Eels. The Eels are confident they can keep Sanders, although his path to first grade is blocked by a pair of big names on lucrative long-term deals. Sanders was named player of the match in the SG Ball final earlier this year.

Yeah if I’m Sanders I’m thinking I’m relying on injuries or bench time for the next few years or I could be playing regular first grade elsewhere.

I've been as excited as anyone with the possibility of signing Latu Fainu going by the media hype that he is one of the best talents to come through Harold Matts & SG Ball in the past however long and watching a couple of his NSW Cup games.

Then the disappointment sets in with the talk that he may not come to us at all with the Dolphins rumour (following the previous Titans & Dragons rumours).

Then I think, well maybe we already have 17-18yo halves who will turn out to be just as good if not better in Lachlan Galvin, Heath Mason & Alex Conti. Looking forward to the National Schools Champs starting this weekend to see what they can do
Which one of our halves in reserve or flegg do you think could handle a season at 14 after a big preseason

I’m still waiting for the forensic recruiting to kick in. When we started getting rid of our halfbacks, I thought it was part of a master plan? But now we’re trying to rehire them. 🤔

Sheens is as dumb as they come but the really sad part is there are people on here who should know better are still swallowing his rubbish. What makes the situation worse is Pascoe Lee and the rest of the board are no better than Tim.We have Muppets running our club and the only Muppet who could help us is Miss Piggy and she could slap some sense into these dopes if she was here

I posted that Sheens interview. His position on Brooks is well-known. We need an NRL quality half, a very good one. Austin, Sezer, Cogger, etc won't cut it. Time for our benefactors to pool resources and buy out the contract of George Williams.
My take(could be wrong) the WT wanted to make Brooks an offer so as not to appear disrespectful for his 10 years of service. We can all judge him as we please, but he deserves some respect.
I think the Club knew full well that there would be a higher offer elsewhere. I pray to the Good man upstairs that they had a contingency plan, the time lapse in between announcing his departure has me really worried that they didn't. If Fulton doesn't land Fainu or a proven 7, I'm tipping he's a fraud.

It’s difficult to pin the failures on the coach because he may not be responsible?
This is an organisation void of any structure or direction and as such the individuals within its sphere are uncoordinated and reactive.
When was the last time this club publicly stated its intentions?
I can’t be too hard on any of WT employees, because they are possibly victims in this as well?
The Dragons should follow WT lead and release players who have had enough.

We do need to lockup the Fainu boys especially with a good offer. We have the money.

They have stated they all want to play together, best chance of that is our club.

Togan and Samoan families like to stay together, hopefully in Western Sydney. Also they probably dont want to be to far from the one in Jail.

Their manager is Benjis manager. If I was Benji either you send me these kids or I will find a new manager.

For the other half, may trindall and offer 3 years for 2million. I know its a risk but one we need to take and offer Jake Simpkin as a swap.

6. Fainu
7. Tindall
Back options Wakeman, Cogger

Sheens was the one who moved our halves on this year and went all in on Brooks which was a poor idea as results are showing us.This is 2012 revisited but with even worse results.I certainly am not excusing the other idiots we have but he has to carry the can for this abortion of a season and the last half of last season where he left Noddy in deep manure and actually removed depth from the playing squad. At this stage he has "won" us one wooden spoon and we are unfortunately a solid chance of going back to back.
The club needs to remove the entire board Pascoe Lee and Sheens they are pathetic and some times i wonder if someone is actively trying to kill our club from within because the actions and consequences certainly look like it

I still think our coaches are to blame for our 1/2s problem, on this forum we have identified many 1/2s that could put our team on the right track . Many of these players are struck behind incumbent players and will be struck there for years , so I ask WHY have we not made a move on any of them , we have the money and a 1st grade spot to offer them , and I don’t accept the line no one wants to come here , a kid offered more money and a 1st grade spot would be mad not too jump at it . So I think is it the coaches that don’t think much of any of them , because they seem to only be looking at 1/2s close to or over 30 , yes nice to get a experience 1/2 but bring a young bloke in while we have a pack to look after them and go with it for two years , we got nothing to lose

Very sensible post.

Regardless of the names, we need a good field kicking player & a player able to match-up well with tired edge players, creating something with a bit of dynamic footwork etc.

Whoever those guys are- makes us better.

Wakeham is an ok field kicker. He's also ok at putting players in decent positions. But ok as your primary playmaker isn't good. Hopeful that Laurie knocks it out of the park. But not confident.

Whoever out of Fainu, Sexton, Trindall, Townsend, Williams, Walker etc, etc offers the Tigers the best mix of these skills- that's who I want. But signing 2 players that are similar...that's a recipe for disaster.

Not a popular option on here, but if Sezar offers all the general field kicking options, and you pair him with someone like Fainu- it could work in so much as it's an improvement on where we are currently.

good analysis. I'm personally against the idea of Sezer. hasn't exactly set the world on fire in Super League and the 2019 GF will be 5 years gone by the time Round 1 2024 rolls around and that was definitely his peak.

if you want a halfback that's going to put the ball in the right spots, Townsend really isn't a bad idea. Madden would've been good also but it looks as if he'll be biding his time at Brisbane until Reynolds retires. I'd like Pearce but I think he goes to fill the bench role at the chooks. Cogger could do a job. Volkman and Metcalf are both brilliantly talented players but unsure on whether they would be the conventional 7 type. Sam Walker is actually not that guy, I think his long kicking game is average, but all of his other skills are A1. Williams is staying in Warrington. end of.

I know its the halves pairing that we've been rumoured to be chasing heavily in the last week. but I genuinely believe that Fainu and Trindall would be perfect, providing we can get them both across. perfect mix of flair, footballing smarts, X-Factor and control.

Trindall has always looked like an out and out 7, not a 6, and has around 50 games now, never looking out of place. We know our maligned 7, who was really a running 6, is worth around 700k in this market. That means Trindall as an actual 7 is worth at least that and I don't understand how a guy in Reggie's could knock us back if we were serious and made a big play. We should have looked at him before drongo has beens like Pearce or slimey farts who stained the club.

Of course he could flop here, but peak Andrew John's could have too!

If Simpkin was released as part of any swap, I'd say we'd also recruit a utility otherwise we are relying on Tallyn & Rua as our only backup hookers. Perhaps Blake Taafe could be moulded into a half/hooker/fullback utility like Weekes at Manly. Or Bayley Sironen can play relief dummyhalf as a versatile lock/backrow/5-8 too.
