Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

This is where we are at. The only other way forward is via getting some stars from England or rugby union but we probably can't afford quality union players.
I thought about that, you’d think there would be a gun Fly Half not getting a crack for the All Blacks .
Benji and huge paycheque might get them over the line, but even then you’d have to let them learn there craft in NSW cup for a year or two .

I think the Bulldogs are setting the standard in relation to aggressive recruiting. Whether they are successful on the back of it remains to be seen but any team would be improved with Crichton and if they were to tempt Tino with their latest efforts he would be a great get.
How that compares to out aggressive recruitment drive what ever that is, who knows.

Speculation at best...

I've seen more young 'NRL Quality' showing just as much as he does go on to nothing
- Far from NRL Quality.

Fainu is 4 years away from proving anything remotely close to being NRL Quality.
Seems Marshall is keen on him if you believe the SMH. I note one of his motivations is to buy his mum a home. He sounds like a very family orientated young man which is a great quality. I guess the question is will it be Redcliffe or somewhere in Sydney?

I wonder why Manly let these 2 young guys got to market , if they are as good as people say why let them go at all. , I think we need to go after a too 1/2 , plus Taafe , Trindal , Lomax
Lomax is a very good player but I cannot envisage Flannagan allowing him to leave. It would be a shock to see Sullivan leave. Amone I can understand perhaps to get a fresh start but Sullivan?

Flannagan will be getting rid of Lomax as he will demand an exit.

Lomax is part of the Dragons culture problem. Talented guy, but really needs somewhere like Melbourne to get the most out of him.

I doubt Flannagan will want him or he will want Flannagan. We should avoid Lomax as were really not mature enough to handle his ego.

I was looking up Latu Fainu and I believe his contract was HUGE at Manly. 2021 I believe he was the highest paid junior.
Manly have DCE at a bargain 1m (probably more). They have now signed Brooks on 750k approx.

With Schulster, they have 3x halves positions and I believe Schulster is in the 600-800k range. Also Fainu is managed by Mario Tartak.

Issac Moses is going to screw manly hard. He will manage the recruitment there and tell Anthony Siebold who to pick. Unsure if Moses has conned mr Penn into this OR Manly haven't realised the trap they have walked into.

Honestly, if you think we are mismanaged (and maybe we are). Were nothing on Parra or Manly.

Was keen on Moses, Brooks, Munster as well....
Benji is a Rookie coach 6 months into an apprenticeship, I'd take Seibold and Flanagans opinion on the kid over Benjis'... And they've decided to let him walk.... And his brother.

Either way, Benji could have a photo of him in his wallet
- Doesn't make him NRL quality as you previously speculated.

Even if he is, He's 18!!
That won't be known for 4 years.... (3 Years at best.)
Anyone banking on him before he's 22 is an idiot.
Or more then that look at Sam Walker?
Young guy, had 1 great season. Now has a form slump. Would we as a side be able to help a player like Sam develop past that slump?

Several young guys we really failed to develop right. Nofo never learned edge defense. You look at Taane Milne at Souths and he is going gangbusters.

Maybe Fainu will get some form by 20, maybe not. He may have 1 or 2 awesome years before 22. But he will have some horrible years.

Fainu is ready for the NRL, but probably wearing NR17 instead of 7.

I am not privy to the decision making at Manly. Are you privy to it or is it speculation by you? What we do know is DCE, Brooks and Schuster is a significant investment around the scrum base.

Hawkins did not impress me when playing on weekend if i was to be honest....this was he chance to shine and like other times he has had the chance, there was a massive lack of intent.

Completely screwed over by Demitriou mate. He shouldn't even be in the team when Cody is out as he doesn't suit playing like that all. It's almost like putting you in the centres in Flegg back in the day, you can do a job but will be no where near your best. That being said, he has struggled in his 2 games this year more than I would have liked, but its hard playing out of position and being extremely unhappy at the club. I'm not confident he is the answer, just open to his style of play when at 7.

Lomax goes against the bad culture at the Dragons. He is one of the committed non party ones. I believe he has played poorly due to being an outsider in a very grubby culture. I was against signing him until I found this out, now I think he would be a good signing.

We are not in a position to have bad relationships with player managers. Be professional, sign players from different management sources and pay players what they’re worth and you have no issues.
Why walk down a hole we can't get out of?

We know what Issac Moses is like. Any player he brings here will be as a last resort club. He will rubbish us with the player and we won't be able to develop the player. If were serious about culture we should avoid people who ruin cultures and Issac Moses has done more damage to this club then any board member.

"play players what they are worth"? nope, wrong thinking.
Mitchell Pearce is probably worth 500k, it may take us 700k to get him here. Yet some would argue that's worth it because Mitchell brings more value to the team as an experienced halfback.

DCE for instance is probably a 1.2m halfback. I would gladly sign him here for 1.6m.

We have done so many "moneyball" style picks where a player was worth 400k and we signed them for 300. Ryan Matterson comes to mind. Culturally Ryan's attitude SUCKS, while he was a good pickup for 350k and worth a 500k upgrade, he is a nightmare for the culture of your squad.

I argue we picked Decent this year by picking guys who are solid first graders. We probably paid overs for Bateman, Klemmer and unders for Paps. Ofcourse our backline and halves suck, so our good picks went nowhere. Yet you look at our frontrow and we are drastically improved over last year.

And both of them have been a lot more successful than us.
They definately have.

Yet both Manly and Parramatta have been managed far worse then the WT.

Which is why I think the board plays less infulence then people think. We have some disfunction but our biggest hurdle is just landing that Good coach and good coaching assistants.

Parra have been trying to Fire Brad Arthur and stirring up Board trouble for ages. Brad has been a champ in managing the Horrid Parra Board management.

Manly have kicked Haslier and Toovey. You take both of those guys out of the club and you see a wooden spoon dweller with DCE leaving the club for greenier pastures. The insanity of Penn kicking excellent coaches is incredible.

Broncos Board destroyed the club in one season. Finally they listened to every bloody member banging their door down and punted Siebold. Club culture > dumb board.

Cronulla, Easts and a few other clubs have really strong boards and cultures. I honestly think were low/medium. Were just missing that Club culture and a few lucky breaks. Ofcourse fire and change some people, but it isn't a wholesale sweep IMHO>

Parramatta made the GF last year… they are levels better managed than us …

You mention issues with Arthur/Hasler/Toovey… now do the Tigers coaching history
