Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

nothing will happen on the Fainu's while they're in U19 Origin camp. for now they'll be soaking everything up in the NSW system. chances are we'll hear something towards the end of next week. transfer deadline isn't until August 9, there's still reason to hold out hope for an immediate release.
And this is why it frightens me a bit that of all the places for the u19 origin to be held this year it just happens that these boys will spend a week in Redcliffe...!! 🤬 Giving them plenty of time to be wooed, check out the area etc. Otherwise they'd be limited to a quick flight and a few hours to check it out and speak to Dolphins

that sounds like accepting mediocrity. Clune was a backup at Dragons and Knights.
He has a few NRL man of the match efforts to his credit and he’s now a much better more experienced player.
It would be great to sign he and Jack Cogger. Neither are superstars, but both are now experienced number 7’s who are good on field communicators, know how to play like a genuine 7 and create space for those around them.
Throw in a good attacking speedy 6 such as Luke Metcalfe, Blake Taaafe or Jake Clifford and we would be much improved in the halves while waiting for younger players such as Galvin and Mason to keep developing.
I’m certainly not opposed to Braydon Trindall as our 7, but I’d say he would cost a lot more. Trindall with someone like Ben Stevanovic or Zach Herring as his back ups would be a very decent option as well.
Whoever we end up with, we still need line breaking ability and speed on our edges and in our outside backs to enable them to improve us as a team.
Re-Signing Charlie Staines and adding another speedster in Xavier Savage should be a priority as would signing a strong & fast line breaking edge forward such as Josh Curran.

all great options if you like a bottom four club. We'll probably get one of them, just explaining the outcome.
Far from a bottom 4 club if those recruitment t options are followed.
If we can’t sign any superstar players, depth is the key as having competition for each NRL position should alleviate the complacency that is within the team currently.

clune and Croft are absolutely terrible options for 7
Clune is a more than decent option if you want our NRL team to become an attacking threat and score points, Croft is not a 7, he’s a running 6 and I’d have a few others on the priority list before him, but he’s gone ti the UK to mature and improve his game and has his best years approaching, so would be better than what we currently have while waiting on the likes of Galvin and Mason ti be ready for NRL.

To be fair to Croft, he started his time at Brisbane under Seibold and no one at Brisbane played well under Seibold.

Seems to have improved in the Super League. He’s a better option than some of these NSW Cup players that have been suggested.

I don’t know where common sense comes into play, but for everyone who continues to point blame at anyone and everyone from within the club for our lack of recruitment t success, just think even a man with the reputation of Wayne Bennett has struggled getting any big names.
Big names generally don’t want to do the hard yards and help a club climb the ladder.
Some are even critical at Brooks leaving, but many have bagged him constantly for many years.
I’m a fan of Luke Brooks as a running 6 and think he will do great at Manly, but it was better for the Wests Tigers and him to part ways and try a fresh approach,

Amongst the challenge of finding and signing decent halves for the next few years we are about 2 years away from needing to replace some of our decent forward pack. Need plans in place for say 2025-2027 otherwise we will be back to having no platform for halves and backs to take advantage of.

Parramatta made the GF last year… they are levels better managed than us …

You mention issues with Arthur/Hasler/Toovey… now do the Tigers coaching history
What coach would we promote internally?

Jason Taylor, Terry Lamb?

Benji Marshall perhaps may be our first (or maybe not) good NRL coach.

Manly's success has been Des and Toovey combined with a great juniors program up the north coast.

Parra, Parra have just been lucky to get Brad Arthur. Remove Arthur and remember Ricky Stuart coaching the joint? Parra were getting the spoon under Ricky.

Does our board own our bad coaching situation? Yes, they agreed to the Sheens/Marshall plan and moved too soon. Heck sacking Madge without an option (yes they should have sacked him, no they can wait till an actual coach is there to replace...) is on Sheens and on them.
