Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If any coach could win with our current backline in the NRL, short of halves and with other guys just out of nappies, give them coach of the year now.

so who should we blame for the backline that took the field being so bad?

Perhaps we should have acquired some further backline depth… maybe kept Hastings

It looks like we have gone way off topic from this signing suggestions & rumours topic.
Very few of us posting on this forum can agree on which players should be signed or retained and very few of us can agree on whether or not Sheens, Marshall, Farah, Fulton should stay or go either.
I know Justin Holbrook doesn’t do much for me as a proposed replacement coach.
Yes, I agree Holbrook not overly dynamic but may add some much needed stability in the coaching group.

If we had 1 1st grade half, with Tupou and toa at their best the. We’d win a few.

Couple of things to keep in mind with the current bout of "Bad Tigerisms":

While it is reported (perceived perhaps?) that player managers are contacting the Tigers due to concerns over player development- in the ACTUAL article written by Buzz, he states that HE contacted the agents of Api - who said that it's not a happy place right now- and the agent of Utoikamanu, Papali'i & To'a- who wouldn't comment.

This is VERY different from agents calling the Tigers saying they have no faith in the Tigers coaches.

It was RAY HADLEY the week Fulton was brought in, given credit for his appointment. It is RAY HADLEY & his mate PETER PETERS now saying Sheens has to go. The news report also said it was MARIO TARTAK that brought Fulton to the Tigers. Take this for what it is- but for mine, this smells bad for Fulton & his mates more than Sheens & Benji.

Also, this 'secret meeting' between Marshall & Fulton is to 'hash out the issues between MARSHALL & FULTON.' Now, anyone that deals with HR, do you also bring in the co-workers around you in these situations? The fact the Sheens isn't being brought in could simply be because Lee & Pascoe want...Fulton & Marshall to hash out their issues. It's only the media, and then those that buy into it, that want us to believe Sheens is on the outer.

The argument is apparently over COGGER vs SEZAR. The same people selling us this story, told us COGGER rejected the Tigers weeks ago. Someone got the stories wrong.

This last bit I took right off a post on Facebook- so no credit to me- but....Fulton comes to the Tigers & we are instantly linked to Schuster (managed by Tartak). Report is he will cost $1.2m Benji says no thanks & Schuster re-signs with Manly for $800k, a loss of $400k. It is FROM THAT MOMENT that the Fainu's, who were just about written in ink at the Tigers, are suddenly looking at their options. Now the Dolphins don't want the Fainu's- and we start hearing that managers (read- Tartak) have no confidence in Sheens/Marshall & all the Fulton buddies are out saying that the Tigers coaches don't have the confidence of player managers. Fulton tells Benji to sign the Fainu's. Benji gives it the green light. Yet, no Fainu signings. Putting the pieces together- Fulton is trying to get Tartak looked after, probably some kind of agreement between them to get his star players looked after away from Manly, and now that Benji & Sheens don't WANT these guys are the value they are being told- we have a disappointed player manager trying to get his star players a big payday. This 'secret meeting' they are having today, Pascoe & Lee need to bring in Tartak separately as well. This smells. Benji & Sheens have done nothing BETTER than promote player development. For the report to come out saying managers have doubts on their player development the same year Bula, Tupou, Pole & Da Silva emerge, as well as 2 U19 SOO representatives, plus a number of players stepping into the Top 30 from the juniors next year...doesn't add up.

Lastly- weird how Bula's $120k contract suddenly comes up. Before we bag the club on this- he is an 11 game veteran who wasn't a Top 30 player at the beginning of the year. $120k is good coin for an absolute rookie. No doubt he gets a contract extension. So before we pitchfork Pascoe, Lee, Sheens, Marshall, Santa or the Easter Bunny- let's just remember that this was his first professional contract, signed before he even made the field.
Very well put @The Chad

There is a fair chance that a lot of this latest drama is being driven by Tartak in support of Fulton and also Uto's manager O'Loughlin.

Regardless, the club being in this position is due to the Chairman, Board & Pascoe with their decision-making & how they have managed situations both with their own staff & the public.

Any Chair & CEO with backbone would come out to set the record straight with their staff, players, sponsors, members & fans, so we know these media stories are inaccurate (unless they are accurate). They just keep trying to paper over cracks in wall and the pressure keeps building.

Problem is we need players and Fulton and his entourage are the only present way of getting them.

Sick of taking the off cuts.

Benji is managing to piss off player managers while siding himself with the weakest player manager of the lot. Good work benji.

Sheens has made it clear that Benji will have the team he wants in 2025.

Obviously that’s not a view shared by others.
And what team will that be , our forwards will all be gone , either retired or have demanded a release which we will given them in a heart beat. SO who will get players to come here , because they haven’t come for sheens nor benji and Fulton has done jackshit and maybe even directed players away from the club , SO I ask again wait kind of team will benji have , a under 16 team waiting to break into 1st grade . I know the above is all negative but I just can’t see any light at the end of this tunnel

Sometimes you gotta play the game a bit… Manly seem to do it … Take a player on some overs to get someone else to sign…

We can continue to stick to our guns and get no one to sign here and continually poor media coverage..

It may not seem fair …. but that seems to be the way it is…

I agree with this approach. The coaching team should be responsible for coaching the team but recruitment should be via a different team. Sure the coaching team should have input but they shouldn't be managing all of those responsibilities.

Without seeing an organisational chart its hard to say exactly how they have set it up but a recruitment manager would certainly report to and take direction from, the Director of Football which is Tim Sheens at a minimum. If it was set up properly, he would also come under the banner of the Head Coach.

Well, our halfback getting injured didn’t help, that’s probably bad luck that one. But the fact we don’t have one for 2024, well I’m hanging that on the club’s management who just cannot secure a top line option in that position.

Our five eighth, signed pre-Sheens has had a horror run of injuries and I feel for him, but it’s bad luck and I can’t lay that on the coach.

I’m lead to believe our wingers are on upwards of 500K each and not playing at the moment. One was signed pre-Sheens and the other had a hole in his bowel, hard to hang that on Sheens.

I hold Sheens partially responsible for our centres, as they were both re-signed without showing much consistency. To’a and Naden have both shown glimpses of form but are far from consistent first graders yet.

So in summary, we have had a horrible run of luck, some poor recruiting decisions in our backs and we need some star power in the centres.

It certainly wasn’t bad enough to pull the plug on a five year plan after 7 weeks.

Ok.. fair enough…

I think we both have articulated out positions… hopefully respectfully from my end…as you have been..

I’ll leave it at that on the Sheens issue…👍

unless he picks AJ again on the wing tomorrow… then I am going to explode…

Oh I’m sorry … I didn’t know it was a prerequisite to come back from injury via reserves .. I must have missed API’s game there last week..

I was told there were no other options to AJ… i have named two.. neither are ideal but they are both superior to the option that was selected.. as we witnessed ( again)
Youd better be careful TS or craegus will accuse you and paws of hogging the post in contravention of the WTF rules and regulations ;)

Shortly? did I read that rite where you said shortly? Blimey, I'd say we are already there.
We arent there yet.
We still have a coach who has won premierships, as well as Api, Klemmer, Papa, Bateman and Bula.
Once they all go and are not adequately replaced, rock bottom will be achieved.

Anybody seeing a modern day backrower in Bateman, and the club signing him to a 4 year contract for over 700k per year and plus the transfer fee they paid 250,00k, seriously he offers nothing, his competitive nature doesn't now even exist. Bula has shown how special he is going to be, from Nov 1 next year, he is open to signing with another club even though he is signed for 25, just go and offer another 4 years and do something normal Weststigers
If that's genuinely how much we paid for him B1963 he definitely aint worth it.

It certainly wasn’t bad enough to pull the plug on a five year plan after 7 weeks.

It's not just the poor results though. It's the fact that recruitment and retention appears to be a mess with the board, CEO, coaching staff and recruitment team all doing their own things.

The plan might have been a good one if the people involved were better at their jobs but Benji for instance is completely inexperienced in this role and he probably has a lot to learn. That learning phase could hurt the club a freaken lot.
