Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

By the way the Dolphins were quietly told no like I stated about a week ago - they withdrew there offer with the belief they weren't prepared to leave NSW.

Look, when your at the bar and the Brass is talking back it's time to stop mate.

Heck if the wood or any metal is talking back... ask the Barkeep to call and Uber. Time to go home.

Hoping Faniu bro's do sign here. We can just build for 2025, I know clean slate and another rebuild but maybe once we can rebuild right (which I think was part of Tim Sheen's plan).

Faniu bros not going to Dolphins. Drank hard with the top brass here in Brisbane. It’s mail

Teddy I am claiming the dolphins mail as my own … was drinking / hungover but it’s the only mail I have ever had here since 2009! 😂 I did meet Lote today in Brisbane … but alas he had no mail

Young forward Samuela Fainu was involved in a heated altercation with Queensland players just hours after last week’s State of Origin under-19s game, the incident playing a part in the Dolphins’ decision to withdraw their offer to the Manly back rower.

Fainu, who captained the Blues under-19s, is understood to have exchanged words with members of the Queensland camp in the early hours of Friday morning as he looked to settle the score over comments made during the Origin game. There were also claims he made his way to the Maroons hotel to find the player responsible.

It is understood he was told the Queensland player at the centre of the claims had left camp and was sent on his way. The news has come to light a day after Fainu and his brother Latu — another member of the NSW under-19 side — inked big-money deals with the Wests Tigers for next season. Manly were unaware of the incident when contacted by Sport Confidential on Wednesday and it is believed they contacted the NSWRL to seek some clarity.

However, it is understood the incident played a part in the Dolphins’ shock decision to withdraw their offer to the Fainu brothers late last week, having initially tabled a deal after talks between the Fainu family and Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett.

Fainu’s agent Mario Tartak said Samuela had been subject to ugly abuse about his brother Manase — currently in jail over a stabbing incident — during the game.

“It’s almost at the bullying stage with the comments about his brother and his family,” Tartak said.

“Unfortunately it is part of his life now. He’s a young bloke and he is copping it.”

Fainu was involved in a heated exchange with Queensland forward Ben Te Kura during the game after the Maroons player had put a shot on his brother Latu. Te Kura is regarded as one of the rising stars at the Brisbane Broncos. Samuela Fainu and his brother Latu were at the centre of a bidding war between the Dolphins and the Tigers, having been given permission to explore the market by the Sea Eagles. (DT)
This article is a nothing burger. “19 year old footballer exchanges bad words after hours with other 19 year old footballers”.

Yes absolutely, API’s extension is huge for us.
Not only does it give us stability in the number 9 position, but it gives young Tallyn a proper apprenticeship under a genuinely excellent player, resulting in him being fully ready to not just take over when Api goes, but already be excellent himself by then. These two working off each other will give us X factor we’ve never had before. When the team loses nothing when a player is replaced, you are in a great position.
Additionally and just as importantly, the API signature will go a long way towards convincing the other big signings to stick it out. Surely they have been having second thoughts, but seeing him committ will be our best retention tool over the next 3 to 4 years.

I admittedly wasn’t as fussed as most on here yesterday with the news about the Fainus…but this one….This has my interest. This is very good news.
The more I see of Api, the more I am amazed. I think he's even better for us than he was at Penrith and Manly. His defence is unbelievable for a bloke his size and he's always so aware. He's right up there with the best.

Kid has aggression and some fire. Great news, unlike the usual powder puffs we sign

Been given permission to explore the market by the Sea Eagles? They were off contract and free to negotiate, they didn't need Manly's permission to negotiate. And the Dolphins never pulled their offer, the Fainu's were always coming to us. The media trying to run this propaganda as if we didn't sign two of the best young prospects in the game and no one wanted them... they're crap now apparently
Latu had two years to run on his Contract and needed to be released.

That may be true, and I agree with Pezet. But I don’t think he would be keen to come to us especially with belemy being his coach. He will be keen on a stronger club, I think we have/had more chances with Sanders!
Bellamy is going one more year max. Plus Pezet isn’t getting ahead of Munster/Hughes ever. He’s on a minimum contact of around 150k a year too. Sheens and Bellamy have a very good relationship….Tigers and Storm as a whole have a really good relationship. We helped them out last year and gave them Nofa. On top of that, we also were the two teams to do the first ever trade with Momo/Grant.

If we offer Pezet around 400-500k a year and the 7 jersey next year he’s taking it. Signing Fainu, the emergence of Bula and Api committing long term makes that 7 jersey more attractive as well especially with our pack. A trade might be quite simple too as Asu/Nofa have both gained interest from Melbourne.

Pezet shut down rumours he’d leave and everyone’s sticking to it. If he’s asked about his future why would he reply anything else but that he’s happy to be there and wants to stay? You’d be silly to turn down 300k more a year plus a starting spot - when you get a taste of FG like he has you’re dying for some more.

Bellamy has been one year away from standing down for the last 6 or 7 years.

I just don’t get it these kids must be brain dead , your sitting behind two blokes who have at least 4-5 years left , but u want to stay in some country cup on $150,000 , there managers must be feeding them huge amounts of bullshit , even if u came to the tigers for two years it’s then up to them to make there way and then pick up a class team

He is a real quality player and glad we got him. Bet you Eels are pissed they didn't get him and also Dogs as I would have Api over Maloney every day of the week.
When I read he extended I was stoked as well as surprised. Muppets at Fox will be shocked for a few days now

Good on the kid. Has to calm it down though this powder puff world will hurt his career.

As I said that would be great to land him. Just think he will wait a year then hold out for a stronger team. Hopefully we can improve and become a more attractive destination. I would of preferred Trindall but…

He may not be doing the chairman's position for dollars up front but you can't honestly believe he is getting nothing out of it,he would not need the dollars but no doubt in my mind he needs the feeling of power which feeds his ego
$1 million a season for the amount of TV, newspaper and radio air time he gets is very cheap. Add to that the Brydens logo all over the jersey and stadium and you can see the motive.

I think everyone has got Lee wrong. He’s a fan loves the club and saw it as an honour being chair. The issue is the CEO is a no show and no idea about football. For the sake of the club both need to go but he’s being found out because Pascoe goes missing. No one would know the chairman at 90% of clubs.

Having people within high places who have genuine love for the club and want them to do well is such a benefit. Benji/Sheens/Robbie have this x1000 and Lee has the same level of care to see this club do well one day.

Unfortunately the odd one out is Pascoe and I’m not expecting our CEO to be a diehard fan but he’s such an anchor in terms of what the club could be one day from a management perspective it’s not even funny. Say what you want about Lee but his connections around the league is impressive and he pours a lot of $ into the club. Lee shouldn’t be the one fronting NRL360, it should’ve been Pascoe who runs the joint pretty much but Lee got thrown in the deep end and handled it like a pro.

A smarter operator as a CEO will do us wonders.
