Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You are doing a good sell on Lomax @teddy23 👍 I’m pretty much sold lol

It’ll just come down to price if he does want to leave which if higher than $550k may be a sticking point.

What about Isaiah Tass?
If we are being serious, Lomax is one of the best players not currently playing rep football and he’d be worth every cent we pay for him if there was any chance we could get him,
Tass not in the same class as Lomax.

The game before he was the best player on the field against a top 4 team in the Raiders - people really underestimate Lomax's game imo. Ever since Hook's sacking you could argue he's been their best player.
Lomax was bog average all night. Got lucky with a no look, round the corner flick pass that ultimately won them the game. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

I agree that he can be good if he has his head in the game but the post I made was disputing a value of $800k and highlighting how poor our defence can be and more often than not actually is.

Just for the record, I believe he could justify $600 - $650k as a centre when he is in best form but definitely not $800k.

I think it was only reported in SMH and then picked up from there by all & sundry.

Hopefully it was the manager alluding to Sanders 'likely' signing with the Raiders and we've come in with a late offer. Coupled with us signing Latu and having assets for Parramatta in a swap (Simpkin, Staines/Nofa), maybe it is possible.

Fingers crossed!
I got the impression that Sanders demanded the ball more than Fainu in the u19 SOO game.
Fainu stood out in the early stages but then faded in dominance as the game progressed. Sanders took over the dominant roll in directing of the game. I was impressed with Sanders; his speed and involvement. Fainu seemed to take a back seat to proceedings, but still impressive.
Sanders appears to have the voice to direct play as a future number 7
Fainu has the slight of hand to set up players outside him - Feledy types.
Not sure if compatible? Both impressive in their own way but different.

Lomax is a class player, but a bit of a meathead. If he gets that out of his game- he could be anything.

Tass could remarkably be on the outside looking in at Souths next season & is definitely a 1st grade standard player- absolutely would be a quality get if possible. Only question is- is it Souths making him look good?

Brad Parker has been a solid, no-frills defensive minded centre at Manly for a while. He would help solidify our edges I have no doubt. Injuries are concerning.

Alamoti gets zero love here because he is 'slow', but he's really skillful & powerful. Wants to stay in Sydney & might actually be the player with the least questions/issues of the 4. Honestly- I'd be very happy adding Alamoti. Only a year removed from the U19 SOO from memory.

I think it's AT LEAST just as important to get some upgrades on the wing. If Staines is off to Parra, that leaves Nofa & Topou. We need a fast guy, perhaps a big guy (combined would be great). Either way- someone safe in defence & able to diffuse kicks. Probably 2 guys. I've got confidence Topou will work out.

I'd be having serious talks with Laurie after last night. If he could at least make Fainu fight to start at 6, that would be great. additionally, if Sezar is a 1-2 year option, couldn't Fainu move to 7 & Laurie play 6 outside him? As a utility/5-8 & fullback...there is a lot to like.

Weird. we bag Phil Gould. Dude had Laurie right from the start.

Tago is better than both. Can we get him instead?

Our lack of depth has been highlighted this year. We can whinge all we like, but until we can get genuine competition for spots, we will struggle.

We have signed Latu. Sezer is unconfirmed.

Laurie and Brooks gone.

Doueihi is out, but still he is not a 7.

We are short 3 halves as it stands. Get ready for more of the same unless we fill the gaps.

Add hooker to that list of poor depth. Simpkin is not what he was cracked up to be. Da Silva is still learning.

If Api makes origin or gets injured, the team falls apart. We need another experienced hooker to cover for injuries and ease Da Silva in.

Fullback is another issue. If Bula goes down, who replaces him?

The pack could do with one more high profile signing, but it’s a lower priority than the issues we have in the backs.

He made 30 runs for 230 meters and I reckon 25 of those runs were coming off there goal line taking tough carries - he also scored a try, had 5 tackle breaks and assisted the winning one. I would disagree he was average.

I hate that it was against us but that flick pass was no accident or luck he's been doing flick passes like that consistently - let's not also ignore the fact he broke like 3 tackles and attracted the defenders before the pass itself.

I'm a big advocate for Lomax due to his character off-field and his ability at the age of 23. We also need a goal kicker desperately as Wakeham won't play much FG and if Lomax was kicking our goals and Wakeham was kicking Dragons goals.... well we'd have won that match. That's how important a goal kicker can be.

If you read the article carefully it gives itself away - with terminology like "will likely increase to" and "could earn up to".

Lomax signed a 5 year deal on just under $3 million.

Lomax market right now is around 650k... if you ask me for a goal kicking centre with his skillset I'd pay that easily especially given our lack of class on the outside.

I have read the article carefully… it says he is being paid $700k this year and his contract is increasing … he has three years remaining …contracts are backloaded all the time …no doubt another reason along with his decline in form this year why the Drags are looking to move him on

Im going to go with this figure… until someone shows me another media link from a reputable source saying otherwise…. what anonymous people say here with no source is a waste of internet space

You think the journo who wrote it knows how much he's being paid?

I recall Brooks's contract apparently being on 900k this year... then was on $1 mil... then was on $1.1 mil.... then apparently was on $1.2 million. Sports media base their numbers on what'll get more clicks or fit there agenda. You don't need to listen to me either - the point is when it comes to numbers take most reports with a grain of salt.

It adds up to me … dude is on an overpaid backloaded contract… had a dip in form this year so the Drags are looking to move him on… Moses Mbye like situation… hope we don’t get stung again
