Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Our outside backs still worry me...

-AJ, Reilly and Naden have not filled me with any confidence that they will be any type of solution moving forward.

Gotta start thinking of AJ as a second rower and depth only… he doesn’t have the smarts to play in the backs

Why he was extended I will never know… but I think we are stuck with him as why would anyone else want him?

Reilly is the invisible man… which is a worry given the state of our backline this year and still can’t get a run? ( is he injured?)

Naden is here another two years … not the worst in the team but lacks discipline

Ha, I think I have fallen for some fake news.
The Daily telegraph (man they are Horrible for accuracy, seriously dumb). said that 19/30 of their players were managed by Issac Moses.

clearly it is only 5.

Funny too how Manly have been bagged over clearing up the situation which was made by the Fake daily telegraph.
Think the whole issue is that next year it's supposedly 7. The bigger problem is though all the coaching staff are Moses clients. The media are saying when Seibold signed there was only 1 Moses player on the books, there is a trajectory Manly will want to keep an eye on.

Apparently According to SEN if we don't make finals next year Steph becomes a free agent
Isn’t he able to negotiate from November next year anyway. Would only be 6 months earlier unless we climb the ladder to 9th then it’s 3 months. Not really a big issue imo as if he’s unhappy he would only be waiting until November anyway

He has plateaued unfortunately since his return from his ankle injury last year.

Atasi James looks more dominant at the moment. With Pole, Klemmer and Twal plus juniors coming through he may not be a priority.

I meant we are definitely making the finals next year. Stef was really good against the Dragons but he hasn't been good this season. He plays a couple of good games a season and that doesn't really cut it.

I think he is a prop we can build around but he is a work in progress and I'm not sure he will be better than Pole.

Interesting, seems like the 2 I am missing are TDS and Mansfield. Neither have actually been confirmed anywhere though like Galvin has. I would expect TDS in the top 30 but honestly doubt Mansfield is there, I just checked zero tackles list and they have Mansfield as a ? for 2023 and 2024. Faagutu is the forward we should upgrade. We have 6 second rowers for 24 as it is.

Well if we need to make eight next year in order to keep the big fella’s contract, looks like he will be a free agent.

You don’t go from stone motherless last to eight in a season without signing a couple of elite players who are at the top of their games. I expect a climb up the ladder but not nine places. Of course we don’t know what signings we may get, but with limited available roster spots I don’t think things are going to change greatly

Mansfield will be in the Top 30 next year unless things change.

Was a part of his Development Contract that he automatically enters the 30 in 2024.

Same situation as Lomi Saukuru heading into this season.

Very helpful table - thanks JB
Just looking at your post JB - As it stands for 2024..
Tuki- Wakeham - Talau- Saukuru - Ma'anamai- Laurie - Camroux- Brooks - Seyfarth & Smith... Are either gone or haven't been offered a contract .. if we could find a club to take on Nofa, kepeoa, Reilly and Nagatikaura's( only because I don't think we need 4 hookers) contracts.. Then, if we could Jag ,Tass.. Tracey.. Sami and Sullivan ( all seem to be achievable)..resign Staines.. include all the upgraded players.. this could be our list next year.. I've just put them in approximate positions, obviously a fair few can cover multiple positions..
Fullback-
Bula
Wingers-
Tupou- Staines- Sami-
Centres-
Tass- Toa- Naden- Feledy
5/8-
Tracey- Fainu- Doueihi- Galvin

Klemmer- Steff- James- Pole- Twal- Sione Fainu
Hookers-

Backrowers-

That's 30 players..
We've also got both Laulili'i brothers- Miller- Craig and anyone else they may have there eyes on that wasn't on the current list..
Presuming we don't Jag Lomax( personally I think we'd be a great signing) I wouldn't mind this team for round 1 2024..

They have stuffed AJ around playing too many positions. Needed to pick and stick. We will have 2nd rower depth ahead of him next year you would think (Papali'i, Bateman, Blore, Samuela Fainu, Tumeth, Mansfield). I reckon he would be free to leave if someone does actually want him.

Reilly should be given the last 6 games of the year instead of Talau. In cup he seems good enough with the ball, but is let down defensively at times. At least see what he can do in the NRL.

Naden should be have locked in a centre spot, but I agree...discipline lets him down. Ok for depth, but would prefer a consistent performer ahead of him.

Well if you dig a little deeper you see about half of his 27 matches were off the bench or starting hooker.

So it's more like 7 tries, 3 try assists, 6 offloads and 6 forced restarts from 15 games starting in the halves, plus bits and pieces. It's a decent strike rate for a 21 year old.

And my observation of him is he is most dangerous close to the try line, which is a distinct deficit of the Tigers.
Actually this season he's played 80 mins in 9/12 matches and 60+ in another. Nearly all at 5/8 or halfback. And if you remove the 2 tries against the most pitiful team in the comp he has one try and one try assist and only 4 forced drop outs.
He's had a very poor season.
If we can get him for 2 years on 200k a year that night be ok.as a gamble, but we'd need them to chip in 300k a session for that to happen
