Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

And how do you think our first choice halfback would feel if an unproven youngster, signed as his backup, earns more than him? Would be great for team morale...🙄
If you want to make someone the highest paid backup in the comp then maybe you should work for the dogs
Why are you so antagonistic? I told you my point of view , and outlined why I believe . So you choose to be a bit of a dick ? Lol whatever .
It doesn’t matter what you think . The club thinks like me ….. and time will tell .
I hadn’t posted her for a long time , but speaking to you and tucker the other day made remember how much this place is really full of some life’s special people .
People just incapable of being an adult .
Don’t worry about replying … cause I really don’t care what you say . You can cry yourself to sleep when Sullivan and Sezer start in the halves next year … or worse Sullivan starts in KOE cup. As if we were spending that money on someone else …

That's rather revisionist.

Hastings 2022 played 16 lost 12. He played OK in my opinion but let's not pretend the record wasn't horrid with him in the side, and he was purchased with the intention of turning that around.
He was purchased because there’s no half’s on the market and/or willing to sign with the tigers. He’s 600k solid better than what we have atm.

moving this thread on

- sullivan met with the knights, would prefer to stay closer to wollongong as huge family on the south coast, tigers have sent contracts to tartak, unless dogs come in, he will sign next week

- staines and club in discussion

- tedesco has no interest in joining the club

- bevan frenches name keeps popping up, but it does every off season
Sullivan signing (along with Sezar I assume) gives the Tigers their starting halves along with #1 back-up, however it shakes out. Add in Doueihi, Galvin & the rumoured arrival of Hawkins & the Tigers are set for 2 grades.

Staines would secure 1 wing spot immediately if re-signed. If Bevan French ALSO was added, our wing positions become rather...fast. Plus, we have 2 ready made #1 options if anything happened to Bula.

There's really very few positions to fill after that. I'd assume Tupou reverts to centre. So unless they are unhappy with To'a....not much more required?

Has scored a few tries this year, and that’s definitely something we aren’t good at. Might be worth a try , even off the bench ?
Yeah I think around 13 try’s in 17 games now, plus he’s played about 4 or 5 of those games at #6, probably would be more if he wasn’t wearing the #6 jersey.

Something NRL team is definitely lacking is scoring points.

So what does the squad look like next year so far?

Fullback:
Bula

Wingers:
Nofoaluma, Kepaoa, Topou

Centres:
To'a, Naden, Feledy, Reilly

Halves:
Latu Fainu, Douiehi, Galvin

Middle Forwards (Lock & Props):
Klemmer, Pole, Utoikamanu, James, Blore, Twal, Matamua, Faagutu, Sione Fainu

Edge Forwards (Second Row):
Papali'i, Bateman, Samuela Fainu, Tumeth, Mansfield-Webster

Hooker:
Koroisau, Da Silva, Simpkin, Ngatikaura

That's 29 confirmed (at this point).

Rumoured to be adding:
Staines, Sezar, Sullivan, Hawkins, Seyfarth

I think we need to discuss who might be let go at this point!

Obviously Simpkin & Ngatikaura have been suggested/rumoured. That would still put us a couple over. Hawkins on a T & T I think i read, so still 1 over. Is Matamua safe? Sione Fainu after signing his brothers? Nofa &/or Kepaoa? Maybe Seyfarth is the last one without a chair when the music stops?

Unless the club is going to be ruthless in terms of player retention, I suspect Nofa & Kepaoa probably stay. Removing Simpkin & Ngatikaura leaves the club on bare bones at 9. I doubt they do that.

If Staines is retained, that takes us to 30. Simpkin removed allows Sullivan. Hawkins on T & T. Fainu goes to make way for Sezar? Or do the club offer Matamua out? We are heavy on middle forwards- I'd say this is where we likely lose players. Do the club allow someone like Tumeth to explore his options elsewhere? I'd say him & Matamua could be given that chance. I know the coaches love Seyfarth. Do they love him OVER the young guys coming through? Do Faagutu & Luailii (Forgive the spelling) make those boys expendable? Who is hooker #3 next season?

Thanks!

When you say Tedesco has no interest in joining the club, does that mean the club tried? Or are you just stating this?

Hope it's the latter, he shouldn't be someone we look at. (Nothing personal like some here, hes old and on the decline, plus Bula)

I just want to win games now and in the short term,…. People talking about kids that are years away…how many fans are gunna be left by then?
There is a saying in Crypto when the market is down in the 4 year cycle

You shake out the weak hands ...the people who can not hold on

Mate 12 years down I think the Tiger's have shaking out all the weak hands the only ones left are the true believers

Imagine there are people out there born young kids under 12 who have never seen seen a good season never seen a Tiger's semi I see them at game's and they sell the jerseys in the shop for kid's

Great to hear there is no chance of Ted coming back

At we know the club is being proactive and recruiting the best available on the market. Sullivan is a very good acquisition.

p
That's not exactly my point. Your original post was talking about how Hastings played great in 2 wins (just 2?), then about how we got worse when Hastings was injured.

And my point was "that's fine" but also we were horrible with Hastings as well. So no, it's not that Tigers were worst team in the comp "with or without him", it's that we were worst team WITH him. We can't be excusing away his involvement in that ignominious outcome. We bought a guy to be the reliable halves partner for Brooks and we ended up having to shift him to lock, and then we got the wooden spoon.

As a result of being the worst team, we sacked our coach and made significant roster changes. Yes you have a point that Api has the same problem, except Api joined a team that sacked their coach and was already a wooden-spoon side before he came in. We will yet see if he can help engineer a revival. But also, unlike Hastings, Api is a proven grand final winner and Origin rep.

I was not and am still not advocating that moving Hastings was a good idea. I would not have moved him on. I saw enough in what Hastings offered.

My “original post” that seems to have you a bit flustered was actually about the fourth post I made in a conversation that we “tried Hastings and went backwards”..

My arguments were that we have gone backwards again this year after signing 4 international forwards, whiich Hastings never got the chance to play with last season, and that the team was better with him in it..

did people expect Hastings to get us to mid table or something? For $400k a year.. that would have been some astute buying from the club

But the biggest point is that we should never have gotten rid of him because it left our depth in the halves threadbare which has been brutally exposed this season with two injuries
