Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

ponga is the reason they are winning mate not Hastings...and 900k a year no thanks
take Hastings put of that Newcastle side end if they have a fit ponga they still win games
like saying next year if Brooks plays well at Manly and they make the semis is it all on hin, no way I'm sure DCE and others have plenty to do with it
Like Ponga and others (incl Hastings) will have a lot to do with them making the semis as it looks like they may... You're contradicting yourself

Still don't understand the situation mate. Did you watch those games? Hawkins played second receiver with Ilias taking on more control then ever, terrible coaching. Hawkins is an on the ball organising half. He won't get a team home playing out of position.
And that is the reason why Walker pushed for Hawkins to play 7 he is the closest thing South's have to Adam Reynolds

It’s not how it works though . What are you basing that on ? Tui lolohea got 400k 5 years ago . And the cap has gone up exponentially since then . He was playing wing prior to coming across . Totally paid for his potential. At least Sullivan has shown something at nrl level .
Sullivan is infinitely better than Wakeham. And like you said you paying your nrl half 425k . We got API on massive unders , same for Bula , you can afford to take a punt on the guy everyone said was the next big thing 2-3 years ago . If it doesn’t work it doesn’t work .
We need game breakers . The attacking structures absolutely rely on it . Sullivan is that
A circuit breaker? Have you only watched him when he plays us?
7 tries (with a few against us) and 3 try assists from 30 first grade games across 4 years.
Looks exactly like a reserve grader who hasn't been able to impact first grade like he did in younger age groups. The fact is he's a backup until he proves he's not. If he outperforms Sezer next year (presuming both sign) then fair enough, and he'll get an extension.
This season he also averages 148m per match with the boot. Hardly amazing there either, though Hunt obviously takes the bulk.
Again he is average until he proves he's not

Yep. It's pretty much code for has limited attacking ability. Same as running half is code for limited organisation skills. Reality is you can make either work with the right players around them and the right coaching and game plan.

This is gold. I've been stating I don't get the organizing halfback for a long time but now I get it. The organizing halfback is someone who doesn't threaten and is a below average half.

That is the player we don't need. We need two quality halves.

Still it's the dogs.

After some digging, Hastings is on $600k a year, not your exaggerated $900k, about time you admitted you were wrong

He’s human scum. I know those are strong words, but the way he carried himself in his best man speech at To’o’s wedding was cringy as hell. self absorbed moron. He deserves a club like us tbh.
Human scum is so over the top. Consider the types of people the game has running around. If that's your bar for human scum you may as well write off half the competition.

Crap gonna hit the fan with Hastings if the coach gets the punt.

love or hate Hastings,he is a junk yard dog n hates 2 lose, thats why we should have kept him,Klemmer was coming anyway,Bateman if any truth probably dislikes him because he see;s himself in him,all history blah blah

well.. I recall wins against Top 4 Parra and Souths last year where Hastings was the best player on the field…

Pretty sure he was injured the back end of the season too when they were getting flogged each week,,,so they were dire without him last year
That's rather revisionist.

Hastings 2022 played 16 lost 12. He played OK in my opinion but let's not pretend the record wasn't horrid with him in the side, and he was purchased with the intention of turning that around.

Disagree completely . Pedigree in the halves usually rises . And I have yet to see a kid dominate the juniors like he did , and not at least be a serviceable nrl half .
Like I said , give him the contact for a couple of years . He knows fainu is already the chosen one , Galvin isn’t too far behind , Large around the corner and Sezer is the captain of the ship.
If he doesn’t make it , whatever . It’s up to him . Our issue is halves in 2024/2025 . It’s not halves in 2027 . In fact by then we will have a glut , and will have to make some decisions .
To me 500k for 2 years with a club option 3rd is fine .
Wakeham was never meant to be first drop . He was supposed to be the KOE cup half with Laurie first cab off the rank . Only because brooks was getting 1.1. We don’t have to shop in the bargain bin for our backup/ development halves .
