Most coaches talk about the voice of the fullback leading & organising.

I'm going to assume that 'good organisational halfbacks' in the NRL are players like Cleary, Reynolds, Moses, Hunt etc.

Bad organisational halfbacks are players like Brooks, Sullivan or anyone else the Tigers are linked with.

I'd bet Chad Townsend is considered an 'organising halfback'.

These virtual assistant coaches, implementing the coaches gameplan, move for move....aren't they just the guys that also do the kicking? Looks to me that to be an 'organising halfback' what you really need to be is....a good field kicker. Can't we just say the Tigers need a half (7 or 6) that can kick the opposition into corners & strangle the game out of them? Why is Sezar an 'organising half' but not Fainu? Fainu, at the levels he plays, kicks.

Are we suggesting that Munster, Walker, Foran etc don't organise anything & simply run & pass with magic in their hands?

Or are they running at pre-destined positions, on specific tackles, targeting specific players while ALSO passing, running etc?

Everyone is caught up on the #7 being an extra assistant coach. These guys are really 1 of 4 organisational options in a team. Jerome Hughes is a running halfback. Cameron Smith ran the Storm from dummy half. I'd hazard a guess that Harry Grant does most of it alongside Munster now.

What we need are smart players that can implement a gameplan & bring the other meat heads into the action. Brooks is a below average kicker. He's inconsistent. That's his downfall. That's what puts him in the 'running half' group instead of the illustrious '#7' club.

If Munster was the Tigers 6, we'd all be calling him our play caller, or leader etc. And he would be. Because that's what he does. It wouldn't matter one spit if he wore 6, 7 or 1.

Tigers need consistency in the halves, a kicking game & guys that can introduce the meat axe's out wide to gaps instead of defenders shoulders. I don't care if we put #13 on the back. That is what we miss. We do not have THAT guy in the club, playing 1st grade, right now.

At his playing level, Fainu is THAT guy. Just like he will be, hopefully, for the Tigers. With a 'running 7' beside him to the horror of those that believe #7 is akin to a rugby league chess master with an assistant coach badge under his jumper.

I think there is far more to being an organising half than just being the field kicker.
I also don’t think they are ‘virtual coaches’.
To me they are the guys who keep the team on track via reading the way the game is going and acting accordingly to ensure that the game plan is being realised. They direct the attack at players pre-identified as having weaknesses and they look for additional players who are struggling to exploit. They look to slow down or speed up the play as is required.
Guys like Munster and Ponga are incapable of this as they are mainly eyes up, instinctive weapons. Benji was one also. It’s not uncommon to see set after set where these guys barely touch the ball….then all of a sudden, they explode. The organising half is the one that is working, doing all the boring shit so that the opportunities arise whilst these weapons are scanning for these opportunities.

As for Fainu, I’ll take your opinion that he can do this as I haven’t seen him play enough yet. I wasn’t impressed with his origin game but that’s pretty much all I’ve seen so far.

One other thing on todays game, NOFO I am a fan of his, but when he took that intercept today,
the instant he took it, I thought he would run the length of the field to score, but by halfway about 4 or 5 players managed to round him up, cannot beleive how fast he isnt anymore.
 
noticed the ref controlled a differant game, East- Manly ,more atone 2 semi footy,Go The Warriors,will the Sharkies hang in.Parra make it

No issues with this in every club.

I guess, the point is more about, us trying to get it right and a more surgical approach, rather then a shotgun approach.

Although as fans we really are always focused short term. I think for once in a long time. We have a long term approach implemented.

He’s never been rapid but he has lost a lot of the pace he once had off the back of that. They rounded him up like it was nothing, he all round game not just his pace seems to have nose dived. It was a nice pass though I’ll give him that.

Sadly Nofa has lost both acceleration and top end speed
Ever opponent backline gives him start and runs him down..quickly..then exploits his defence deficiencies
Despite his experience positioning for cross kicks,he is now too slow to be effective as as an NRL wingerUnfortunately last nites intercept and subsequent chase down made his speed issues transparent to all NRL teams.and will probably completely eliminate potential interest from other NRL clubs.Storm sw this lat year
weve got him for 2 more years after 2023, so Staines and Tupou become must haves on the wings

Can anyone explain why we wouldn’t do this?


Manly have been able to look to secure a player worth about $350,000 to cover for their injured star but have been unable to find a replacement.

The Tigers were unwilling to let go of Tommy Talau despite Talau joining Manly next year.

It now leaves Manly unable to fill the gap before the mid-year trade window ends on August 7.

The Tigers are also going to wait until the end of the season to get their hands on 2024 recruits Samuela and Latu Fainu who Manly would have released early if the Tigers wanted.

A couple of reasons maybe - no to Talau because its manly so stuff them - the Fainus may want to finish the season with Blacktown in the top 4 in reggies.
