Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Staines was on $500K at the Panthers to play fullback ahead of Edwards, deal was done 3 years ago.

We inherited that from the Panthers with the Peachy swap.

He is a winger not a fullback. $1m over 3 years would be a good deal for him. Roughly $330K a year for a winger!

Then Charlie glances across the other side of the field to see Nofo running sideways and around in circles. That's what a $500k winger looks like i'll ask for $600, in all seriousness though something around the mid to high 3's is what he could probably get.

I wonder what the current Panther's wingers and fullback will be receiving. It had to put pressure on their cap.

This is the problem , Nofo on $ 500 k and is average so we offer Staines who will have more upside going forward $ 300/350 k not good enough , I would be offering Staines $ 400 and farming Nofo Off to anyone , we kick in. $ 100 k to rid our self’s of him

So Staines is on more now than we are offering him for next contract , this sound poor again , are we low balling him or is the coin offered worth it to him to stay , he is young and a good player with speed ,
He's just not worth 500k, and hasn't proven himself as a fullback. So he gets winger money.

Yes the Nof contract is a shame, surely someone somewhere will pick him up. UK surely if no NRL options

One area we really struggle and need recruitment are wingers with speed that can finish and get the ball out of our own end. Nofa is worn down hasn’t got speed and Tupou isn’t quick and probably best suited at centre over the long term. We lack pace.
Remember we do have Jimmy Ngutlik, and he was planned to be our development winger this season. Big, strong fast. Had a great WC for PNG then did his ACL in a preseason trial. Problem is he's still a work i progress and realistically needs a full year of NSW Cup in order to get used to the defence, ball handling, and positional requirements etc.
Jordan Hill has size and speed, not as strong as Jimmy, but likewise did his ACL early in the season.
Luke Laulilii will be a winger for us in the not too distant future. Who knows about Nav Willett and what position he'll take, currently a fullback in bush footy.
I don't think Sione Hopoate is the answer but he's done ok in NSW Cup so far.

I can't see him getting that 500k again unless someone is willing to play him at fullback. I really like him as a player though and I hope we can get a deal done.

Nofo on 500k is a nightmare.
Staines is a quality NRL player from a system which produces very good players. Being able to play fullback and wing provides excellent coverage and an inflexible approach will imo result in an inflexible outcome. There is a middle ground which should be sought.

They did not need to add anybody, Joe O is counted in our 30 even though he has moved on
We have the option to include Joffa if we want to.

But that would be appalling roster management. We're massively under the cap this season, we need to front load contracts and promoting a youngster may be a great way to do it. At the bare minimum i'd think someone like TDS would be upgraded and front loaded.
Ideally we'd recruit someone from outside the club and front load their contract in this seasons cap.

I won't start a new thread but the NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Koori Knockout will be hosted by the Newcastle All Blacks from 29 SEP to 2 OCT in Tuggerah on Darkinjung Country. I hope WTs' scouts are out and about during the Tournament. I didn't realise that it is the largest First Nations sporting event in the world. I enjoy watching the games on SBS

Thanks champion @pawsandclaws1.
