Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'd love to have him here. I know he is in the position where we are probably strongest but he is probably the best prop of all time and he makes a difference.
Would just play him as a 13 if he came here. He gets through 70+ mins a game and Pole presently in the 13 doesn't.

Would like to see Mansfield take Seyfarth's seat
at the table. He's top 30 next year. Seyfarth will
be looking to get paid soon too, I'd let him go
What has Mansfield done to deserve a Top 30 contract?
Has he been outstanding in NSW Cup week over week??? Is he a better player than Seyfarth???
At least Seyfarth is showing what he can do on a consistent basis when he plays. He is a solid squad player who a contract should be given to.

This notion of giving young kids top 30 contract is bulls$%t.
If they have performed on a consistent basis and trained the house down consistently, I am all for it otherwise T&T contract it is.

Contracts should be given on performance not potential.
Contracts given to Tuki or Reilly or Rua are case in point.
Terrible contract decisions that has most likely impacted getting better players to get club due to holding a top 30 contract space.
All 3 would struggle to play either Super League or Championship in the UK or QLD Cup.

What about apasolome saukuru and Christian mainmast.Sorry about the spelling. They haven't been within cooee of first grade as well as the fainu brother

That's why I suggest a train and trial as it doesn't take up a spot but keeps him at the club.
But we'll have more than 1 spot after some of the dead wood gets a tap on the shoulder.
I reckon someone will offer him a top 30 contract. We have Sione Fainu on our top 30, and won't cut him. But in reality he's got Tasi's spot and other clubs will have room at the bottom of their squad for a backup.

No idea how you can say second row is beyond him when he makes regular line breaks playing there, like a decent second rower is meant to do.
He's made 3 linebreaks in his entire career.
He's a prop. Doesn't have the mobility to play out wide anymore. He runs straight and hard but a lack of skill and agility makes him too one dimensional for my liking. Fainu looks to have him covered in the future

Our former recruitment and retention team were appalling. Every development player got a guaranteed year of first grade chucked in. Most players have to earn a top 30 spot. Occasionally elite juniors need to be gambled on to secure them long term in face of stuff competition, especially when we're a weak club, but you can only take so many gambles. If it's a Faagutu, TDS, Miller, Laulilii you take that gamble. Inconsistencies or injury prone players need to earn the top 30.

That’s 3 more than Bateman has made or even looked like making this season.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we will regret letting James go - a bit like Junior Tatolla.
I think James is very promising. Would definitely find a spot for him in the 30 if it were up to me.

I've been disappointed with Matamua tbh. Don't know if he's been injured this year or what, but he hasn't kicked on like I thought he would. Also, Pole... Feels like he's plateaued a bit at a level lower than he has shown he can play.

Could just be a bit of burn out for both, but I'd pick James over one of them if it came down to it.

Have to admit Seyfarth has grown on me the last couple of months, but would let him go too; I don't think Seyfarth has anywhere near the ceiling James does.

Agree with you. I was just saying that he's top 30
next year, for good or for worse. 7 tries & good
metres back from injury, he goes alright...
@balmain boy post replying to you is pretty much
spot on. Have to invest & incentivise the young
guys that are showing a lot of promise. The
recruitment/retention under Madge wasn't good enough like you said, Tuki, Rua, Reilly, Sione
all took up spots in top 30. These young guys
coming up are a different kettle of fish though

I sometimes believe we expect too much from our younger players, especially our forwards. It would be a challenge being introduced into our NRL in our team in comparison to stronger and better performed sides. We need to be patient with players like Matamua, Tumeth and Webster-Mansfield. They are all talented but need experience and lots of game time.

Think you maybe right.
As we continually hear from TS a young player needs 40-50 games under their belt b4 they are truly ready to shine.
That’s almost 2 seasons !!
But our haste is born out of pain in waiting for that time to arrive. We want it, and we want it NOW !

It has always been a massive belief by some of our supporters that if you give a player 4-5 games in FG and it does not work you move them on as they will not make it,the other major delusion that exists in our supporter base is if you have a rep team that dominates in an age group that the majority will form your FG side in the future and be a success.Sadly most of the guns in a junior rep side will not make it at FG and over the years i have seen many players who did not look great when they got half a dozen games in FG blossom as they grew older.
You need both patience and a good ability to pick the right young players to keep and we have failed at this since our inception,Bellamy is probably the best at this and whoever makes the decisions at the pamfers(it is not cleary)

Yeah right… what is your source on this?

If he really wanted to come here, he would have come
He wants to come back to Sydney. We were the club that approached him. In the end he decided to stick it out in France for the rest of the year. He will be back with an NRL club next year.
