Lee Hagipantelis

The vast majority of criticism direct towards Lee is based on our lack of on field success.
What can he or the board be expected to do better except hire better coaches and recruitment managers ?
I certainly thought Madge was a good choice at the time and I’m still very optimistic Benji will be a great choice moving forward. The endorsement from people such as Wayne Bennet and Cameron Smith only strengthens that argument. As mentioned above, he shouldn’t be judged on 2024 as there is still quite a few roster spots being taken up by players he doesn’t really want and cannot do anything about until their contracts expire.
No, it's not.
Are you kidding? The guy makes us a laughing stock. Looks like a joke, keeps yapping his big trap talking crap. He comes across as extremely unprofessional, making the culture at our club unprofessional and undesirable.

We've gone backwards every year since he became chair, the most pathetic chair we've ever had. He's not suitable for the role and he needs to be removed asap.

Who knows how many players have been scared off by his antics?

One can only assume that some people wish our administration snd finances to no be stable.

It’s so funny seeing you and paws patting each other on the back. I

Hey @pawsandclaws1, random question - what’s your thoughts on naming any of the feeder clubs Western Suburbs Magpies? Do you think all feeder clubs should be rebranded to wests tigers?

Two points,

- the only thing that fans really care about in ANY professional sport is on field success.
- they have burned through 7 coaches in 5 years or something ridiculous so their failure rate is huge… but there is never any consequences… they also meddle in player comings and goings which should be really kept to an absolute minimum and left primarily to the coaches and recruitment managers … in short, they appoint them but never let them do their jobs..
How many coaches? 6 in 11 years if you stretch it that far. 2 coaches in the last 5 years.

Agreed. I don't understand the negativity towards someone who is so generous towards the club.
I understand it - he's easy to dislike and he doesn't handle things in the typical "go quietly" rugby league way.

But also I think it's WAY over-exaggerated due to the losses, and Lee H's specific behaviour probably has nothing to do with the on-field performances.

I just ignore it myself - I cannot remove the guy and when you put pressure on him, he lawyers up. Lee H is probably going to be one of the hardest people to apply pressure to because of his day job.

Precisely this. And how he dresses and what
car he drives, or whenever he has a soundbyte
in the media, (coincidentally most of the time
he's defending the club). It really irks me. To
think our fortunes would have changed in the
last few years if we had another Chairman and
sponsor shits me up the wall. The hate for Lee
is unwarranted and mostly personal imho
You're so incredibly wrong. He's about as unprofessional as it comes. That's it, the bottom line. Every thing he does is embarrassing. He has enhanced a culutre of unprofessionalism at the club, taking shortcuts, not doing the hard yards, seeking glory but not doing what's required to get there.

If he wants to help the club then sure he can keep sponsoring us, and pay 5million a year if he wants to, but that's it. He gets cut off from all inner workings of the club. We could very easily find another sponsor willing to chip in as much as he does who will sit in the background and not damage the club's brand...

So having a team called western suburbs in the NSW cup is a good idea for you?
I don't give it any thought. I can watch Balmain in Matts and SG Ball.

I go to Lidcombe Oval and get a kick out of watching the old Magpie dudes wearing their Wests jerseys. The only concern I have is that a few of them need to invest in new and bigger jerseys to get it over their stomachs. It's a good day.

Anyone know what the go is with Harry Triguboff these days.

I believe that some time ago Harry was on the record as saying that if no one else stepped up as a major sponsor of Wests Tigers then he would still be willing to tip in if no one else would.

Would like to know if he still plays some part in the background.

That scene in our block buster doco where Pascoe pays a visit to Harry, all be it a couple of years ago now, seems to point to him still being in the picture in some way back then at least.

Can @Aubanon, or anyone else that may be close to the club shed a bit of light on it.
Up until the covid years, Harry was the only guy to have a seat reserved for him outside the chairman's lounge at the 8th wonder.

At that point, there was no official deal with Merriton. He was still putting in what I was told 'Couple hundred thousand' a year.

On occasions he'd write a cheque after a win (Again ad hoc).

Personal view has always been, we missed a massive opportunity by not going to Harry with the leagues club redevelopment.

Interesting quote from the chairman in this WWOS article today:

Hagipantelis replied, "I do not disagree that there is a lot of external noise and it could be satisfied to some extent if someone did fall on their sword - whether that be I or Justin - you're right, so if there was a sacrificial lamb would that resolve some of this external noise, yes it would… what difference would it make internally though?.

"We listen to our fans and our members, we take on board the legitimate criticism and we're not immune to it, I take that, but we don't take or adopt any governance policy as dictated to by NRL 360 for example."

He must be thinking about it!

I agree with most that it's frustrating how Lee cannot stay out of the media. We didn't need a story like this, just makes us even more laughable.

In saying that, I can acknowledge Rob and the hosts on WestsLife should learn more professionalism. As one of the two popular Tiger focused podcasts (and i regularly listen to both) the way they present/opinions they give (right or wrong) are a representation of our fan base whether we like it or not. Quite often their entire pod is just swearing, making personal comments and insulting the club - which they're entitled to make, but should be delivered in a more discussion based way. Saying "f**k this, f**k that, hes a P*ick, f**k him off" for an hour straight every week says more about yourself than the people you're talking about. As fans its great to listen to a rant every now and then, but they can be pretty relentless in their views being the only view. Think they would do better in discussing a topic, playing devils advocate more and trying to debate both sides of a story...

anyways my two cents, think Lee over exaggerated but he has a history with not getting on with Rob and that pod for the above reasons

Think it has been rehashed several times…

Harry is a great and tired man

What has this got to do with Lee?

And my you and @balmain boy like old pals. 🙂

Well, just wanted to see what lengths you’d go to.

You only care about the LH talk cause you think it’s some insane conspiracy by Balmain to out board members and add more orange.

Paws will just agree with whatever the club does. His years of laying in Brooks Grenades will show you that. Annoying but harmless enough.

Why do you care, though? Is it self-interest or for the betterment of the club? Curious

Always wondered why he didn't step in with some kind of a TPA to keep Tedesco here, who was a favourite of his.

Would've made a huge difference something like this across the spectrum.

Would've had opponents second guessing whether an offer to one of our guys is worth it.
