Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Nice rant 👍🏼
Which top shelf talent do you have in mind?
Anyone over the 2nd tier players we have signed in the past.

Ivan Cleary's biggest mistake building the Tigers was the "Big 17"! Going for "good, not great".

That said there are a few players we could target. Our halves are locked up, look for a wing who can defend.
Bigger names:
Brian T'oo (Very unlikely, defense may not be the best but a total machine).
Corey Oates (would fill that defensive gap that is Tupou.)

We ofcourse need centers. We have Feledy but we should try to pair him with a first rate center.
Olam and Manu are the names being floated.
Manu is being targetted heavily by the Dragons and I suspect they may get him.
Olam would just up our entire backline defense. Strong gritty PNG man.

While I don't think Sheens removal of Joe O was justified, I get what he was doing. Freeing cap space to make room for a bigger name in Mitchell Moses, Shawn Johnson or whomever we could land at Halfback.

Exactly why I hate the "Depth" signings. Hey we sign some fringe grader on 300-400k, why they put in poor effort but give us "DEPTH" incase someone gets injured.
Pick top shelf so that we actually have players we want when they are not injured.

I don't think Joe o was sheens call.

Always enjoy your posts teddy but have to disagree on this one

I think we should be aiming much higher than Cotric
Whilst he played a strong game on Sunday ( his best for quite a while) didnt I read on here a while ago that he was on $800k per year and the highest paid winger in the game.
If that’s true then definitely overpriced , I’d say our ceiling for wingers has to be Nofa money
$500k,isnt it ?
Can anyone confirm/deny those numbers so I’m not talking bs.

Chammas has updated the story now:

South Sydney have deferred a decision on the future of assistant coaches Sam Burgess and John Morris until Wednesday morning as they consult co-owner Russell Crowe.
So South Sydney rely on a drunk like Russelll Crowe to make their decisions, yet Wests Tigers get criticised.
They might as well get done bloke in the Souths Juniors pokies room at 3am to make a decision.

Just when you think Braith was starting to make sense. Apparently Weststigers are responsible for Manly signing Schuster on an extended contract for $800k because we offered him over a million 🥴. Braith also reckons we shouldn’t have changed up our halves for next year and kept Brooks. (Ten years seemingly isn’t long enough to determine his value. )

Up to date thanks NBWT Twitter.
Looking at the list- a couple of things:

Blore signed for 2024?

Only 1 spot available and we want Seyfarth, James, Staines, Fa'agutu, Hiroti, Olam etc signed. We are going to miss out on some of the guys we want.

Last year of their contract guys- Sione Fainu, Twal, To'a, Doueihi, Reilly, Rua, Simpkin, Mansfield, Kepaoa & Blore. These are the guys easiest to move on early as they sign contracts after Nov 1. Who, realistically, will have a genuine market? Blore, To'a, Twal, Simpkin. Maybe Kepaoa. Doueihi to a degree. What I find interesting- no talk of EXTENSIONS on contracts for these guys except Blore (Tupou as well- but I discard him as I doubt we let him move on early). So, assume Blore & Tupou are 'safe'. Doueihi is out most of the season- so he's not going anywhere. Unless someone has seen something in Mansfield, chances are he's not highly sought after. Same with Rua. And Fainu isn't easy to move on.

Most of us agree Simpkin seems likely. I remember reading the Storm had some interest in Kepaoa. Twal & To'a might be the easiest to move on though. Twal, I expect, would be popular in the UK. Not saying we SHOULD move him on, but given our forward depth...Seyfarth (rising player) or Twal (probably as good as he gets)...who is the more important signing? To'a...if we can get Olam, I'd give up To'a yesterday & partner Olam with either Naden, Reilly or Feledy.

Who NEEDS a hooker? Roosters for sure. Parramatta. Broncos? I'd say these are the three most likely in for Simpkin. Broncos might make sense to return to Qld. Possibly the link with Willison? Exchange?

The club can't sign Staines on his $500k a year he had this year. There HAS to be better value- he's not THAT good a player. Hiroti on a small contract, freeing up cash to retain Tupou/Bula etc makes more sense.

I think the club will need to move on at least 1 or 2 of our more favoured players in order to improve. Not talking about Simpkin. More, Blore, Seyfarth, Twal, To'a. There's a market for these guys. And they can be improved on. We won't lose all, but for the overall good of the squad, I'd prepare to see at least one move on.

Yeah, tonight Braith seemed to want to grind the axe. He's been FAR more fair in his critisism of late, but tonight was just having a whinge. Doesn't seem to rate Fainu. Has Brooks over Sezar/Sullivan.

Hiroti would be a decent signing.
As a winger he’s tall, athletic and safe under the high ball.
But as you say it appears our top 30 is full unless we can release a few players who already have top 30 contracts for 2024.
Hiroti is odd. Tall, angular, surprisingly quick & agile...and looks clunky at the same time.

Too good for KOE. He's somebody's squad player. Good hole runner. He's the sort of guy that allows you to spend money elsewhere but still gives you a reliable starting option.

Not three months ago he was saying that Brooks needs to move on for the sake of himself and the club.

Why can’t these guys change thier minds like they’re undies and no one calls them on it.

None of them stand by what they say month to month…

The other numb nut on 360 has Ice and Stef going back to the eels. They just can’t help themselves, no matter what other news is happening in league, let’s belt Weststigers.

I saw that it’s the first I’ve heard about Ice wanting out, well apart from the fact he never wanted in the first instance. Wouldn’t shock me in the slightest if he moved on back there or back to NZ, he’s been decent but has hardly pulled up any trees this season certainly not in anywhere near his Parra form.
As for Stef I didn’t take it as he wanted back in at Parra just that he wasn’t really wanting in here, hence the multiple exit clauses he has apparently. Again I know he’s young and far from in he’s prime but he’s hardly pulled up any trees this year wouldn’t shock me to see him hit the eject button.
