Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Like other members have said in here .. we have a plethora of forwards currently with the group and coming through the junior systems .. what our club needs now is a strike player or two in the backs .. one who can change / win a game for us on a regular basis .. !!

As far as AD goes .. there is real doubt that he actually play again at the top level after suffering his 2nd ACL / knee reconstruction in two seasons .. !!

Most of these kids were playing up a year from memory. makes a big difference at that age. But yes, I expected more too.
So does every other club, so this point is mute.

The best juniors always play an age or two above, that's just the way it is in order to push players to be the best.

Of course you can't have a whole team made up of inexperienced players at that level, you want some experienced flegg/cup/nrl players there too to ease the transition.

Our progression of our talented juniors was embarrassing. No planning, no consistency, everything appears to be totally random adhoc decisions being made. Flegg didn't field the same starting 13 in consecutive weeks all season. Not due to injury necessarily either. Players going from bench to start to dropped on a weekly basis. centres, wingers and fullbacks rotating who plays where every second week. No combinations able to be formed. It's amateur stuff and simply unprofessional.

Who should be overseeing this though? Betsey? GM of football?

So Kasey Badger, who stuffs up every game that she's the video ref for, has been given an NRL game to ref. just so the NRL can pat themselves on the back for being inclusive.
It's a crazy world.
It's good to be getting older and not have to deal with rubbish on the regular.

Klein buggers up as the video ref more often than anyone else and he is rated the number 1 ref in the game by Anusley,he refereed the GF and the World cup final so being useless appears to be a prerequisite these days

With not a lot of tall, strong and fast wingers available, one I’ve noticed is Max Lehmann currently playing for Easts Tigers.
He’s scored 12 tries from 11 games for them this season and is an ex Manly junior rep player still in his early 20’s.
Looks ripe to make the step up from Qld Cuo to NRL.

Yeah it's one thing having talented crops of footballers at Harold Matts & SG Ball level which we do have. Where we need to do better as a club is the development of very good 16-18yos into their 19-21yo years, working on their skill development, body/fitness development & footy IQ/team systems development.

Someone needs to be directing this from above (arguably the GM of Football) down through the Jersey Flegg & NSW Cup coaching staff.

Just as important as our player recruitment & retention for '24 will be our GM Football & coaching staff recruitment/retention and structure.

With Sheens departing next week, I get the feeling that Benji won't be hamstrung by his loyalty to him and will push for change in these areas to get a structure/personnel he wants. John Morris is just the start and I hope the club keeps progressing Robbie Mears.

Personally I think Badger is close to the best when it comes to the box. Not perfect but gets most right and most important she seems to treat both teams the same, unlike others who always ride the top weight

When talking about the best up and coming players within WestsTigers ranks, as mentioned previously many of them are in the 16-19 year old range and many of them have not yet played Flegg (U/21’s) or NSW Cup (Reserve Grade).
Two of our most highly regarded young players in Lachlan Galvin and Onitoni Large are in that criteria.
A few that have stepped up from SG Ball this season have done well in a short space of time and will be well prepared to step up a level in 2024.
Others such as Matamua and Tumeth possibly haven’t progressed as well as expected this season, but don’t forget they are still only 20 years old, which is very young for forwards in particular and they too should be much more experienced and ready to step their games up a level in 2024.
So I’m not saying our young players are any better or any worse than other NRL clubs, but we should be very optimistic that 3-5 of them at the very least will progress to being better than average top 17 NRL players within the next 2 seasons.
That’s in addition to Pole and Tupou who are now NRL regulars and Da Silva who gained good NRL experience this season.
Then add the 2 young Fainu brothers who are two of the best of their age groups and it shows we have an extremely young and inexperienced team, but a few with potential to become elite NRL players.

It’s one of the issues.

Another one is that we only have one genuine elite player. The top teams have 5 or more.

Another is that we have 6+ fringe first graders playing regularly. The top teams maybe have 1-2.

Summary: our squad is weak across the board.
Totally agree. And we have been for the last 10 yrs unfortunately. But hopefully the powers above realise and take action. And so far the rebuild has been great but still a few pieces missing and I hope we are working on those.
