Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We should never have guaranteed him an NRL spot. Most dev contracts shouldn't result in Nrl deals, players should need to earn that contract. Expert for the most elite juniors who you have to take that gamble on. He's a talented kid but still but a standout at NRL level.

Hell provide more value then Saukuru though
I agree with this to some extent however it was said on here that the rules around poaching players signed to non-top 30 contracts are different to those who have a top 30 contract. With this in mind I understand why most development contracts have NRL deals attached to them. Just need to be better at whom we identify as worthy of such a contract.

Turpin to the Dogs next year! Gee's there recruitment seems all over the place with no real target of key players in positions.
I'd be more worried right now being a dogs fan then us even with back to back spoons.

Size and does have some speed but 4 knee recos. This from 2019:

TAUTAU MOGA

How does a fella push for the Fastest Man tag after four knee reconstructions?

“Amazing,” Shirvington said. “Not only his coming back from four reconstructions, but coming back as one of the game’s fastest players this year.

“And who knows? Maybe he was going to be a 38km/h runner until the surgery. Perhaps that has brought him back to the pack. But my guess is forced professionalism has a lot to do with it.”

Forced professionalism?

“After a reconstruction, your professionalism tends to go up,” the Olympian said. “Suddenly you’re being forced to do things like manage diet better, and undertake countless rehab exercises you’d never usually bother with. I think that has a lot to do with his now balancing that power-to-weight ratio really well.”

Shirvington said reconstructions could also improve sprint times, surprisingly, by tightening a knee joint.

“Which sounds weird when you’re talking about moving faster,” he said. “But in a lot of ways, the stiffer your joint the better you transfer power through to the ground.

“So those reconstructions, they could actually be giving Moga a transference of power he didn’t have before.”
Yet everyone wants to write Doueihi off after 3 reco's

Their recruitment strategy seem to be pretty obvious - recruit players from good systems and hopefully they buy into what Ciraldo is trying to do at the dogs and create a positive hard working environment.

Unfortunately, the players they're signing or looking at this year are the rejects of those teams that might not actually change on-field results and are pretty ordinary. Jaemon Salmon, Blake Taafe, Connor Watson, Drew Hutchinson, Siosiua Taukeiaho all come from strong systems however personally don't think they'll change much in terms of their ladder position from this year.

They did this last year but with talented players and it hasn't changed much if not made things worse - Burton, Mahoney, JAC and Kikau so something must be wrong with Ciraldo's coaching or beyond that within the club. If/when this fails and the dogs are in the same spot next year - expect Ciraldo sacking reports being thrown around.

Good to see media on there backs more considering the players they have signed.
I think we are in better shape then them even though we got the WS.

If thinks don't improve after 12 rounds in 24 .ciraldo will be gone

Bulldogs and Tigers look to be taking two different approaches in regards to filling up squad spots. Dogs after fringe first graders from strong clubs to develp their "culture" of hard workers. Tigers have tried to fill spots with promising juniors from within to create a sense of loyalty and identity. Interesting considering all the garbage Gus was talking about being a development club. Interesting to see who comes off best (although i'd argue that as it stands Bulldogs have a much better first 13 when all fit).

Seems like Gus is just throwing darts hoping to hit a bullseye, look at the kid they got from the Broncos. They hyped him as the next best thing paid a big transfer fee for him and now have binned him off. They just seem so haphazard with their recruiting i can see it all ending spectacularly for them, i just don't know whether thats in a good or a bad way.

Either way it would be nice to know what is making the dogs an attractive place to sign at. I know we got the wooden, but the dogs are going just as bad. Are there 3rd party deals for fringeys (aside from pub shares for marquees)? I know their facilities were great, compared to the league standard, a few years back, but we (and I imagine others) would match them there now.

Side note: why is TPJ's 'retirement' not spoken about more in the media? Surely some sort of investigation, NRL or media, should be ongoing.

Like honestly?

He is doing okay. But I wouldn't break the bank to keep him.

I honestly don’t get this place at times.

If we lose Steph then who replaces him & at what cost to get the replacement?

NRL quality prop’s don’t come around every day & Steph is NRL quality. He won’t break the bank for us either.

Steph is exactly the type of player we must keep at the club.

If he goes in 25 within 12mths most of our forward pack will be gone as well & we back to the drawing board yet again whilst he is just hitting his peak for a prop.
