Keppie offers so much more. If Twal was to stay he would be coming off the bench. If Keppie fills that spot that gives Tigers a lot more punch off the bench.
When was the last time the Tigers had a big bopper who bends the line

My best guess would be around 250 - 300.

Twal- 400 - 450.

So $200k would be a best-case scenario based upon my baseless assumptions, which, unfortunately, is the best we often have when it comes to player salaries.

For your assumption of a $400k windfall in this exchange to be true, even if Keppie was minimum wage (which I highly doubt) at 120k, that would put Twal at 520k a year (which I highly doubt).

Ergo, I heavily favour your numbers being exaggerated, even though I agree with parts of your reasoning for such a swap.

If Twal is on more than 500k, I would think we're chipping in. Just like we are with Joffa and Musgrove.

It's all guess work, but lets say we signed Keppie for 300k, and let go of Twal whilst chipping in 100-150k. Assuming Twal is on 550k, we'd be saving 100k on the cap to get a lesser player.

We need to keep the good and get rid of the dead wood. I don't see Twal as dead wood.

If he bends the line, why does he make less metres and break less tackles than Twal in a better performing team?

He's way behind Twal defensively too which is a given.
 
It would tear me up if I watched our future playing for other clubs because we couldn't find room in our top 30 but the predatory clubs could. More to the point many of these players are from the Campbelltown and Macarthur region. We have waited sometime for this to happen. Hopefully we will see the same from the Balmain and old West's Inner West areas.

I’m not sure what people watch week to week but in my opinion Twal was very good this year.

It seems to me some are stuck on the Madge version of Twal who was admittedly very average. This year he added an offload and seemed to use his leg speed and footwork a lot more and looked a much better player.

I’d be disappointed to see him go but one of the problems we have is that we pay these solid players like star players then we have to let them go. Considering how much cap space we supposedly have though I’d be releasing others before Twal as the roster spot is more important than the salary at the moment.

I couldn't believe it at the start and then someone stated he was on 600k. I don't know how much he is on but you need some depth in your squad.

I think the narrative is though different to what we are discussing. The story is that Twal wants an extension and we've said not yet which is understandable.
 
Post on Facebook in one of the WT groups that Balmain HM fullback & CUB Mikey Nassar (2023 Balmain HM B&F and Best Back) has been told he isn't a priority. The poster says he's a mate of Mikey's dad.

This is a kid that is already 6'2 and can run under 11s for 100m. The poster alludes to power plays at the club and doing favours for clients of player agents that recruitment personnel are mates with. Apparently Mikey loves the club and wants to progress with his mates but his pathway looks to be blocked.

Obviously this is one side of the story but a kid with those attributes at his age should have a pathway at least until the end of SG Ball.

I would like to blame Scott Fulton but I'd rather blame Chairman Lee who appointed him without consulting the current coaching staff to see if they would be a good match.

Never heard of him, but I would doubt he runs sub 11 seconds at 16yo.
Kid must have lightening bolts instead of feet.

This guy bleeds black and gold and has probably accepted a fair contract amount for where he is at. I also think that he is still improving. After improving a fair bit in 2022, he had shoulder surgery near the end of 2022 season which would have held back his development this year a bit. If he avoids major injuries, I think he will contribute strongly from the bench in 2024 and be able to do a job starting if needed.
 
Every team needs the non-flashy, consistent and reliable role players,
Twal is one of those, albeit a very average one. He is a very one-dimensional, predictable player who makes zero impact. That’s plodder territory. And if you make zero impact, IMO you are making negative impact.
The best moment of this season was his try, but if we are honest, he should not find a place in any side that wants to properly compete.
If he goes, it’s for the better.
