Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Our problem is we don’t have many players who have played at the top end , semis , country etc
Bateman , Klemmer , Pappi , Appi , , Steph reserve couple minutes
we need to add at least 3 more very experienced guys on the field to help, these young guys out , we only need them for 2 to 3 years then the best of the young ones coming in will be sorted
Sullivan , The Brothers , , young and limited experience
Sezer , solid helper but we need more of them
experienced Centre , Wing , Is needed urgent , I would be going all out for these 2 positions , even contracted players break contracts as we know , wave the fat cheque book and get Mr Big shot Lee in like uncle Nick , game of golf for 50 k per hole , whoops I lost I ow you $ 50 k cash ,

I would also have
Billy slater help out our young fullback
Cam Smith to talk to the team on a winning Culture and how to go about it .
can’t hurt really , could be a great thing for Bulla to have one of the very best giving him tips and field play etc
Cam Smith , his record stands for its self he could get the ref on his team

When hard task masters such as Wayne Bennett, Cameron Smith and Braith Anasta just to name a few speak very highly about Benji, that’s good enough for me.
I’ve seen the way Benji and Farah mix with our fans and the players to be certain they have the clubs best interests at heart and no doubt have the communication skills required.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I have no doubt whatsoever Benji and Farah with the assistance of John Morris, Chris Heighington and the likely inclusion of Mark O’Neill are the best placed people to lead the club to on field success in the near future.

I hope they don't get Mark O'Neill. That just sits wrong with me. Everyone else is good but results matter.

You're right though, All we can do is watch the car crash...

I'm hopeful they get it right and maybe it even works for us. It'll depend so much on the development talent we have on our books. Galvin, Fainu & Sullivan are the key ones. I was thinking that we have 3 of them. You only need two.

My comment was in reference to the suggestion they'll implement success....
So - It doesn't mean very little....
Their long term success in their chosen field career wise, Isn't great - What grounds do that give them to think they will be in a new career - With zero experience.

Bellamy may not be remembered for his playing career
(Although he only played 40 odd less games than someone like Wayne Pearce - And actually won a Grand Final)
He will be remembered for his work ethic (throughout his entire career) and getting to where he is by doing the groundwork - I wouldn't associate those attributes to either of these blokes.

You're right though, All we can do is watch the car crash...

Ask any of them if they think Benji Marshall is ready to be an NRL head coach?
Furthermore, Ask them if they'd (Hypothetically) trust a Rookie Coach (With zero experience)
with the career of their young blokes?

Listened to Bennett on James Graham podcast just yesterday....
He mentioned - In 3 years or so, Benji will have a bit of experience to give it a go....
No mention of Benji being ready now, Or coaching teams for the last 5 years as Benji openly claims...

Follow blindly if you like, I can't think of any NRL coach in my time
- That has come in with 1 year experience in ANY GRADE and had any success.....
I'd even go as far to say, There hasn't been one with such an overly inflated opinion of himself to even pull it on - But here we are.

If nothing else, At least the old boys can go back to spending their days together...
Who would you suggest coach Wests Tigers ?
I will say I would have been happy with Shane Flanagan or Des Hasler when they were available as both also have Wests Tigers roots through their time playing for Western Suburbs Magpies.
Time will tell how Benji and the crew go, but as I keep saying I’m highly confident he will break the mould and prove you don’t need years of coaching experience to make a very good NRL coach.
I’ve been heavily involved in coaching at lower levels of course in a few different sports including rugby league and I know player management is the number one criteria in making a good coach.
There is absolutely no reason to believe Benji is and will not be a brilliant player manager who connects with his players, makes the whole squad feel like they are important which in turn gets the best out of them in game day.
The young players of today like to see emotion in their coach, someone who is genuinely excited for them when they do well and make them well aware of the things they need to do better, not the old fashioned stone faced coaches who genuinely let them work it out for themselves and let them languish in the lower grades to work it out for themselves if they are not happy with them.

16 Years for Farah
14 Years Benji...

He has a point, Benji or Farah don't know what success looks like either.
Winning a comp as a kid, Doesn't mean you've had a successful career...
Both played for The best part of 20 years and made the finals 6 times and 3 Times in that time.
Seriously,
These fellas are held to such a standing here you'd think they were Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk.

Farah and Benji have a winning percentage in the NRL of around 50%
That's not success for mine.
The other fellas around 70% -Those are the kind of Footballers that know what success looks like.
Farah played (and once captained) Origin and also played for his country.
Marshall played for (and captained) his country and was voted the best footballer on the planet.
Not bad for a couple of failures.🤣

In order for a team to come from last place to near the top, you need a couple of superstars.
Proven superstars are not available to be recruited, so the only way is to find some potential superstars and that’s exactly what Wests Tigers are doing. Anyone who is a fair dinkum supporter cannot ask for anymore than that and should be riding the wave in anticipation the glory days from 2005 - 2012 will return, not forgetting we were also in a big struggle prior to finding a couple of emerging stars in Marshall and Farah in the lead up to 2005.
Of course there is no 100% guarantee some of the young players we are banking on will develop into the NRL stars we are hoping they will become and of course there is no 100% guarantee they will remain in Wests Tigers colours, but you need a plan and hope. That is what has been put in place by Wests Tigers and that’s all you can ask for in our current predicament.
Marshall and Farah have gone through this exact same process as young emerging players at a struggling club that nobody predicted would be successful, both went on to have long established NRL careers and played under some of the best coaches in the business, so I’m highly confident they have the expertise, have the club at heart and know what it takes to guide these young emerging players and the Wests Tigers as a club in the right direction.
Don’t expect miracles for another season or two, but if we stick to the plan and let Marshall and Farah develop and build the team they want, it’s a massive chance they will produce the on field results all Wests Tigers supporters have long been craving for.
Don't expect success for another year or two??

I've been hearing that for over a decade now.

💯 cktiger.
Very hard to work out how there are any Wests Tigers supporters who believe these 2 Wests Tigers legends, the 2 greatest players to ever wear a Wests Tigers jersey are no good for us now 🤷‍♂️

Laugh all you like...
By reinforcing your opinion with rep stats - I'll just have to assume you overlooked the NRL in my statement.

So....
You're telling me "The best Footballer on the Planet" can only make the finals 6 times out of 19 seasons.
(With 2 of those having very little to do with Benchie)

You'll need to tell that to Cameron Smith, He missed them twice in the same time.
And you reckon I'm funny?
Cameron Smith who is arguably the greatest on field leader in the history of rugby league always had a far superior playing roster with him than what Benji and Farah ever did.
One of the biggest issues was Sheens constantly trying to turn Benji into a dominant playmaker before he was ready, when he was one of the greatest ball runners the game has ever seen.

That's the casualality this club works by. What's another season? Who gives a rats.

Could be another team by then.
It’s not the fact the club don’t give a rats, it is extremely difficult to turn a team on the bottom of the ladder into a premiership force overnight, surely you can acknowledge that ?
Yes it has been done when the Panthers went from the bottom to the top instantly, followed by the Broncos and now the Warriors.
The Panthers and Broncos had plenty of emerging young stars within their ranks waiting to emerge, a formula we are trying to emulate.
The Warriors are an interesting one as apart from an ageing Shaun Johnson and the brute force of Fonua-Blake up front, they don’t really have any genuine superstars, but have recruited extremely well.

Yes it is hard. The people who took us the bottom won't lead us to the promised land.

I can understand people having reservations about Benji & Farah as coaches because I have them myself but knocking them as players is crazy lol. They're the only two stars who brought any form of success to this club & were both considered best in the world in their positions at one point.

What do you think about Cheika/O'Neill as GM?
