In the meantime, Albo could have set up a Voice committee and given it a year to show people how it worked. Then it could be put to referendum.
They did.
The National Indigenous Referendum Working Group is an advisory board working on policy and stakeholder consultation, consisting of 21 paid members, that commenced on 9 September 2022.
The National Indigenous Referendum Engagement Group is an advisory board working on community understanding and awareness of the referendum, consisting of 61 paid members, that commenced on 29 September 2022.
I’ve said before in here…the wheels move slowly in the Aboriginal world.
If you reckon “Fiji Time” is bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
The way they set up this contest, it's like being expected to marry someone you are not allowed to meet first - you just have to hope you're not making a rod for your own back. That, plus a failure to create a model that could achieve bipartisan support, is why The Voice will fail.
They must have thought the general public like Married at First Sight so much they’d just swallow any old proposal.

I think it's a shame people view giving to Indigenous people as somehow taking from themselves. If this worked and helped Indigenous people wouldn't that be a good thing for all of us ?
Brilliant idea Earl, The people (taxes) should finally try giving to the Aboriginals. Great idea.

You reply to Hanks post saying to use use the word int he context it was used in, by completely ignoring the context it was used in.
Hank never said that indigenous people are privileged, he said that the access to the executive is a privilege (by the injection in the Constitution) , and it is.

Dont fall into Earls trap of framing everyones point of view into your narrow window so you can attack it.
Who gives a stuff if it is a priviledge?

Heck, Mining companies, AMA, various lobby groups all have access to the executive.

The difference is the voice will allow an actual body to have that access and not be shutdown when they tell the government bad news. Or news it does not like to hear.

Why the referendum?
When Aboriginal people elect leaders who mention the issues in their communities. They get kicked.

Aboriginal Australia need to have their own leaders, Not Lidia Thorpe, Not ms Price, not even Linda Burney. They are all party appointed Aboriginals and we don't know if they speak truly for Aboriginal communities.

It's like saying Lee Hagipantis speaks for all Tigers fans. Lee says everything at the club is FINE!

Yea, how about we eradicate TB from the Aboriginal Communities then?

Or hey we can just have true Equity... All Australians deserve running water and working toilets.... OOPS we have never been to Alice Springs have we?

wait, I am saying this to Winston Churchill. The man responsible for the Bengal Famine... Millions of Indians dying and that slop of a Man Churchill let it happen.

But hey that's how British Morons roll can anyone say Irish Potato famine?
