Sezer Haters, Sezer fans... commit here

There has to be a balance.
People are saying he deserves a 5-600k pay bump, annually, to come here. That is not good business.
There does, and I am not saying we should open our wallet for Luai.

I am saying the more fringe graders we sign the fewer > 1 Mil players we can sign.

We need to be able to open our wallets to the right players, to get the right players. Signing fringe graders stops that.

I will say this, it is good business to sign the freak! Payne Haas here on 1.3 Million, YEA I would sign that. Likewise Crichton or Manu at Center for 700-800K, heck even 1 Million done. Why? because we need a serious upgrade on Centers and that would turn our backline from Turnstyles to gun.

Signing the Freak, as long as they don't cause excessive dramas is a good idea. Especially when the freak wins games off their own efforts.

It's that "IF" that makes the problem...
Sezer has a MO and if we can't shift him to Coaching or something then he will likely take that up... Although to be honest I don't understand MO as an option. This might be a fancy way of keeping a player without adding them to the cap.

AD is still on the Books for 2024, If we can't actually sign Luai on 2024 then 2025 won't matter.

Not saying we should definately sign Luai. I am saying we really limited our options here.

Sezer is probably on 150k per year and Doueihi will be gone next season unless he shows so much more than what he has in the past. They aren't an issue at all in signing Luai.

If we sign Luai the issue is upsetting Sullivan, Galvin and Fainu. I'm not sure that is a good reason not to sign him.

We need elite players but you also have to be careful with all your signings especially big dollar signings. I just think you are focusing on the wrong players in making your point.

Nofo on 500k, Doueihi on 700k (but this is his last year), Brooks on a million (that contract is over), Bateman on 700k, Klemmer on 700k, Stef on 700k.

You have to somehow get value out of your squad. You also need elite players to win games.

100%.

I think if he was a halfback - yes go for it. But he’s not.

Sullivan and Fainu will be great.

I’m not convinced Luai is what we need. I smell Adam Blair MkII

I'm sure it was reported Sezer was on about 350K, cannot find it now nor know the validity of the report.

Cool. I just made up 150k but the point still stands. Sezer ain't stopping us buying any players apart from taking up a roster spot.

I'm not sure. It's a risk though. I'd prefer a gun outside back but I have no idea how we get one.

If he comes here for 1 million that's a steal. Penrith are offering him 850K. Only an extra 150K. If it's 1.2 million onwards that's when it gets a bit much. I'm sure the biggest thing will be the length of the deal, given penrith only offered 2 years

If it's any consolation Nicho Hynes is a fraud against good sides and is on 1.1 million a season until 2029 for Cronulla. And he has a good side around him. Just a bit of context given the salary cap increase

Hynes is a great player. The thing is you expect him to deliver. He might do that yet though. Look at Ponga. He is a great player and proven he can be a game changer in big games. Newcastle though haven't gotten value from him apart from last year.

Hynes is very talented but consistently fails in big games. Bit of a flat track bully. Even when he led Sharks to beat Rabbitohs and Cowboys this year, both those sides missed the 8 and were on a downward spiral. In origin, yes he was played out of position but he made a crucial knock on and then missed tackle that led to a try. For Australia recently, missed two easy tackles in both games vs NZ that led to tries. The Dally M is the only thing going for him, but even then it was helped by a soft draw Sharks seem to always get, and stacking up dally m points in a team where players don't take points off him. Ponga is a good example. He has been underwhelming for Knights since 2020 but this year was brilliant after coming back from Canada. He has also been one of QLD's best players in the last 5 years along with Munster and DCE. Amazing that he hasn't played for Australia yet

Personally think the Sharks pack does not stand up to the better teams moreso than Hynes goes missing.

I wish we had him

150k he ain't stopping us except for taking a roster spot.

I had heard 400k. Someone else is saying 350K (and they are probably right). 150k, sure Sign Sezer.

When you add the 4 halves we got, Doueihi, Sullivan, Fainu and Sezer it becomes a huge bill. 2ish million dollars from a 9 million Cap.

Plus as you said all the other 700k forwards that IMHO I think we need.

It's these small decisionions that impact the big ones. Like how Nofo was upgraded by Lee H from 400 to 500k (if the roumers are true). That's only 100k from the cap, but we keep dipping into the cap.

Now Luai comes on the market. He will be asking 1.2 Million ish. (we should say NO if that is the case). There is only so many ways we can dice 9.5 Million between 30 people.
