Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Don't believe the Bulldogs are honest bidders for Luai. Why would they wait four weeks after Luai could receive offers from other clubs before thinking about making an offer? Luai could have been signed by us or any other club in that time. They are up there as one of the grubbiest clubs going around.

Yeah timing makes no sense unless they have been talking before hand.
To me sounds very much worried about AFB to up the price

No, call their bluff, they wanna get it done, so go back with simplekin and Sayfart, or Kepoaoa.

I wouldn't even give up Seyfarth. It's just BS games. Sign him for 25. If they want a swap no worries you can have heaps of players. Jayden Sullivan, Sione Fainu, Brandon Tumeth, Adam Doueihi, Asu Kepaoa, Jake Simpkin. David Nofoaluma and Aidan Sezer. They can have 3 of them.

"Under the NRL’s new contracting model, Penrith will get confirmation from the NRL about the Tigers interest once Luai gives an indication that he is ready to accept the rival offer."

Thats not how i understood the rule when it first came out. Initially the NRL accepted the offer had been made and then notified Penrith that an offer was on the table. Penrith and only Penrith could make a counter offer within the next 10 days. At the end of the 10 days Luai could accept either offer or reject both. That article above suggests he has to take one of the offers. The other thing is if WT have made an offer the dogs aren't allowed to negotiate until the 10 days are up and Luai has rejected both offers.

It's another Tommy Talau - Josh Addo Carr moment possibly!

As much as I love the potential of Galvin, if this landed Luai for 2024, I would strongly consider it.

Klemmer is hard to replace but may mean we keep Blore as a middle for '24 and forego Olam.

Damned if we do, damned if we don't!
It wouldn't be the worst. If we do it and then have space to sign AFB, then we've gone

Brooks > Luai
Klem > AFB
Galvin > Latu + Sullivan

But stuff em. The only way I would consider it effected signing Luai for 2025. Like what happened with Fox

Klemmer and a gamble on a youngster still to make first grade for Luai seems like a decent no brainer swap to me.

Idk what is too difficult about that decision.

We are all complaining about having shit halves .. So bite the bullet and make it fkn happen. Do we want to get the club moving or what ? Do we want to finally have good halves .. , or still just stay in a rut.

The Panthers are believed to want two of the Tigers' key players - a veteran prop and a boom rookie - before entertaining any deal for 2024.

Sources have told Wide World of Sports that if the Tigers agree to swap Luai for prop David Klemmer and young halfback sensation Lachlan Galvin, the deal could be done immediately.

Mmmmm I wonder the source for this story ... Klemmer & Galvin both managed by the one & only Isaac Moses!

Isn't that now the Storm and Panthers who wanted Galvin in a swap? If so, he is far more than a gamble when two of the biggest clubs want him and see his potential. If true, wait for 25.

Regarding Nofa- I think it's a little unfair with the totally negative narrative on him. He is, at best, an average reader of the opposition when it comes to his defence. His actually tackling technique is ok, but as we note- he's almost always rushing in. That said, is his defence SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE than any other outside back at the club? No.

He is our BEST winger at running the ball back from dummy half on the early tackles. Tupou is a superior athlete, but does not consistently generate metres in those scrappy runs early in a tackle count. Nofa does. Is he as good as he once was- no. But, he's better at it than Tupou & Staines.

He isn't a liability under the high ball. Again, is he great? No. But is he the opposition target? No.

I still believe he is the most natural finisher we have in the club. If there is a try to be scored, and he's 50/50 about getting there, I'd bet on him more often than not to get the try.

His distinct 'lack of speed' was highlighted ONCE all season. There was 1 run where he was in the open & looked to be running in concrete boots (we still scored on that play, but I digress). Other than that, I don't ever remember people saying "Nofa is too slow". He's generally quick enough to get the try when offered.

My biggest critisism of Nofa is when he does the crab run. When he tucks it & runs forward, he's a perfectly fine player. When he runs sideways, he's generally holding the ball in the wrong hand to start with, but it is costly regardless. Thing is, this ISN'T his 70% run. His crab run happens 20-25% of his runs, and it seems to come in bunches. If you get that OUT of his game (and one might suspect some on field direction might help..) then his forward runs are quite effective.

If our ENTIRE outside back group can learn to defend as one unit, and if we can remove even 10% of Nofa's crab runs, I think he is a servicable to good NRL winger. His contract value, which he gets sandbagged for, isn't HIS fault. That said, I believe he gets a cap reduction now, doesn't he?
I tend to agree with you. He is no where near as bad as some of the commentary on the forum would have you believe. He is definitely the best finisher in the club and arguably in the top half of NRL wingers when it comes to scoring a difficult try. He doesn't just fall over the line either. He often beats a few with his strength and low centre of gravity to get the ball down. His defensive reads are sometimes diabolical, but perhaps a regular and reliable centre partner might help that. And his cross field runs are a blight that he should cut right out, but his carries back in traffic are pretty good. One thing you can't knock is he is one of the few current players that genuinely look as though they love the club and the jersey. That has to be worth something. At $500K per year he is getting way overs, but that's hardly his fault. Blame the administration for that. Nofo is not the reason the Tiges are wooden spooners. A dominant halfback, a great defensive centre, and a power running alpha middle forward is what is needed to be contenders again.

I can see us entertaining that to be honest.

He's far more than a gamble ? .. he hasn't even stepped into the big arena at tigers

Melbourne and Panthers may have seen his potential in lower grades .. but haven't in fg

It's a total different ball game

Too bad if come Round 1 with no pre season training & conditioning that we throw Luai into the deep end and he busts his shoulder again and is out for the year. Oh, so leave him recouping along with Doohey until he gets better? Nah! Let him rehab at Penrith.

I don’t think the shoulder is anything serious. Just sounds like clean up work. He’ll probably be good to go in January.

I want the club to be as good as the Panthers, Storm, Broncos etc? I believe we learn from what they do and giving away a junior who has been identified now as something special really does not cut it for me especially when there is the possibility of having both in 25.

What if that youngster turns out to be another Brad Fittler ? I know the odds are against it, but why would two big clubs be so keen ?

Penrith and the chin father and son can go rot in hell, sign Luai from 25 onward, that will give Benji 12 months to start getting the team playing his way and getting him more experience, he is only starting out realistically Luai here this year won't make much diffrence. The Panthers aren't in a position to demand anything.

halves will do nothing without a decent pack in front of them, its a story as old as time.

you lose Klemmer and suddenly we lose some of the go forward and security we had in the middle defensively last year. you think a forward rotation of Utoikamanu, Twal, Pole and Seyfarth could actually give Luai the platform he needs? give me a break.
