Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So would I, next to Olam. They know each other’s games.
Olam is on the nose at Melbourne and yes, he didn't have a great season, but injury played a big part in that.

Addo Carr
Olam
Luai
Fonua Blake

That would transform our team.

I think To'a and Olam would be seriously good with a decent halves combo and Staines and JAC as finishers. How many times did we get run down after clean breaks!? Tupou is quality as well except for some inconsistencies around the high ball.

Say what you want about Staines, and I was his biggest detractor when we signed him, he does the basics at a high standard and is seriously fast. He is a proper finisher, good under the high ball and does the hard yards out of our end. Can also fill in at fullback, which we frankly have zero depth in.

You can forget about Curtis Scott ....it's being reported that the NRL is denying him a contract .....no great loss
Think it's a bit strange how they are telling Curtis who seems to be on the surface and at vast very apologetic and holds himself responsible to jump ship, yet are willing to welcome back Michael Jennings with arms wide open.

The only Consistent thing is the Inconsistency.

NRL News: Tigers sideline Justin Olam talks, ARL considers State of Origin eligibility change

The Wests Tigers’ pursuit of Jarome Luai has cost the club a backline recruit, while there’s a potential Origin eligibility shake-up on the cards – all in the SUNDAY SESH!
Brent Read and Michael Carayannis

Rugby League: The Penrith Panthers are pleased to confirm that the club will travel to England to contest the World Club Challenge against Super League Champions Wigan Warriors.

The Wests Tigers have sidelined talks with Melbourne Storm centre Justin Olam as they focus their energy – and money – on signing Penrith superstar Jarome Luai.
This masthead revealed last month that the Tigers had opened talks with Olam over a potential move to Concord, part of a plan that would have seen Tigers forward Shawn Blore make an early switch to the Storm.
However, it is understood that the Tigers opted to put talks with Olam on the back burner earlier this week while they prioritise their pursuit of Luai.
The Tigers have launched a big-money bid for the three-time premiership winning half, making an offer more than a week ago believed to be worth in excess of $4.5 million over four seasons.

Club powerbroker had another meeting with Luai this week aimed at convincing the Samoan pivot to commit to the cause.
The decision to end talks with Olam comes as the Bulldogs enter the race for Luai after head of football Phil Gould personally intervened to pitch the club to the Panthers playmaker.
Gould also retains an interest in Warriors captain Addin Fonua-Blake, who has been given permission to explore his options in Sydney with a view to moving back home in 12 months.
The Tigers are also interested in Fonua-Blake but they had earmarked Olam to strengthen a backline in dire need to experience and strike.
The Storm were happy for the Tigers to go after the Papua New Guinean international given he had struggled at times this season, having been dropped and then won his spot back for the finals.

However, Luai comes with a steep price tag and the Tigers need all the room they can create under the salary cap to accommodate his wage demands.
Olam is now expected to remain at the Storm, although he also has interest from Super League after Warrington coach Sam Burgess explored the options of signing the hard-hitting centre a few months ago.
Blore’s future is unclear given he is expected to leave the Tigers at the end of 2024 and the club could use his salary cap space to strengthen their bids for Luai and Fonua-Blake.

I can see this ending up with the club getting nobody new in our backline, there is an old saying "that a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush".This is another fiasco in the making

Interesting

I mean seriously... what is going to be the reaction if we don't get Luai. Lol.

People are going to lose their sh*t.

Fair enough.

This f**** club has put us through the ringer again going after such a high star player and doing it so early on, making it so well known, and letting it play out for so long.

Why even put a formal offer in front of someone unless you're like 99% sure they will take it.

And it you're 99% sure they will take it, then surely it's basically signed by the other party within the week.

The tigers issue is they get dragged along to start with thinking they've got this massive chance, and because that gets dragged out the media knows, then when the tigers think they've "definitely got him" they submit a formal offer by way of contract, and THEN the player takes about 4 weeks to get more out of his own club and then we get rejected. lol.

Why wouldnt they do all of that and then issue it on the monday and say if you havent signed by friday its off the table because we only issued it because you said you were 99% coming.

That's what I would do. If they're genuine they'll sign. If not - they're just using you.

Rinse and repeat.

Either the ship is leaking or its made up guess work.
But fair enough, I would be prioritising Luai too and saying to Olam once we got him we’ll be back and Olam would want Luai here too if he’s bought in to the Tigers pitch.

When are you ever 99% sure of what another human is thinking or gunna do? I’d like those odds playing poker.
Then humans change their minds at the last minute or go all in on 10/5 off suit bcoz their kids were born on the 5th and the 10th. We’ve gotta stop the leaks, but if you go to a meeting with a player, everyone has a camera so it makes it hard.

Does any other club only go after one recruit at a time?
I’d imagine they are trying to say we will need to further up Luai’s contract and use Olams potential contract money, however the way it’s written is that Benji is spending all his time chasing after Luai that he just doesn’t have the time to answer Olams phone call.
