Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I've always been intrigued by this theory that money ends after football - why ? If he has any considerations for the future he's doing something about it now so that when that day comes he walks away with another career - maybe not $850K a year but a reasonable income nonetheless. Not all footballers end up on the street after their careers are finished and the rest of manages to live till 70's and pay off a mortgage on far less money than he'll earn.
Haha yeah it’s crazy how people think these guys become completely unemployable after footy ends.
Turn 35…life over. You must survive on whatever you have made so far…lol
It’s just ridiculous.

Whether he is or isn't planning for the future, his bank balance will look so much brighter if he accepts our offer! He may never get an opportunity such as this again. That was my point.

As an aside, my late wife and I had a strategic plan to ensure our sons could own their own homes without debt within 20 years of their birth. Paying off our mortgage while a fine achievement, was not going to be enough and waiting for their inheritance was not practicable. So we invested in property on relatively average incomes, made sacrifices to achieve our goals. Unfortunately, their mum did not live to enjoy the satisfaction of knowing our sons now own their own homes debt free due to our planning. I believe parents assisting their children with buying homes will become common practice.

I assume Luai has children and is family orientated. I assume also he would want the best for them and being in a position to help them would be a priority. Accepting our offer must be tempting.

Killing it 🔥

Ok. Now we getting somewhere. Backgrounds of our posters. Our first official screw. Take that with a grain of salt 851. Anyone else want to volunteer?
I worked in mining for a lot of years, always working in my trade, then when the mine closed, I went to work in Corrective Services, I am back in mine related work now. I worked in B and C class gaols, but worked 18 months in A class, maximum security gaol

Sam's done well for himself by the look of it, just as long as he doesn't become another one of those in the building industry that runs into financial difficulties.

Good to see that the NRL has been active in recent times getting young NRL players taking on education and trades for their lives after football.

Maybe and whilst our offer may be tempting it's not compelling enough. His value will be much more in 3 years when he has 4-6 premierships to his name than it would be after 4 years with us. He'll be 29 and probably another large contract from a cellar dweller will be waved then.

This is exactly how I feel.

That's why I'm not really all that engrossed in our chase for his signature.

Be nice if we get him for sure, but I think any of those guys you've named can be as or almost as good. If Sullivan can play as well as he has shown glimpses of, he's a much cheaper Luai.

Be nice to land a marquee that we've been chasing all off-season for a change though.
Yeah I really hate that we’re all over the news chasing big name players just about every off season only to miss out so the media can remind of of our inability to land a marquee signing once again. That said we signed what I consider to be 2 marquee players in Api and Paps last off season with barely a squeak from the media about it.

I believe the re-signing of Bula is significant. He could have easily walked out the door as others have done but remained. He has quality about him and hopefully his re-signing will see Tupou remain as well. With Pole and a few other juniors the club is rebuilding its foundations. Marshall and his team seem to building a culture of their own at the club which is overdue.

Yeah that’s a good story Paws.
I’m in the process of doing the same for mine.
They may not be debt free, but they’ll own substantial assets with meagre mortgages, which will afford them the opportunity to live their lives as young people do, whilst paying something off.
It’s a great head start and sadly the only way this generation will ever own anything.

The offer would undoubtedly be tempting but he should be able to set his family up on 850k a year.
Most athletes have motivations far beyond money (though it would also influence decisions). I've no idea which way he is leaning but I can easily see him turning down the bigger contract and being entirely comfortable with the decision.

The club does appear to be building well as you note but I believe Bula's next contract not the current one will be the significant one.
At the moment he is a boom rookie with unlimited potential. He is still far from the elite fullback that all the top teams already have. If he fulfills his potential, becomes a top tier fullback and then remains with us I will then call that significant. Until then we remain at risk of developing gun players that end up at other clubs.

If I was a betting man I’d say Luai will be at the club in 2025 and playing next to Latu Fainu in the halves.

That combination could be seriously deadly moving forward with Api/TDS and Bula in the spine.

Man if we somehow added AFB to replace that Klemmer money - we could be a top 4 threat I do genuinely believe that. Signing Luai will help with our pursuit of acquiring AFB too.

Interesting times ahead….

Is this mail or just gut feeling?

I can just picture it. Luai - the King of Campbelltown, shades of 05 packing out home games as the Tigers roll into the finals in 2025 off the back of a Bula, Fainu, Luai, and Api/TDS spine...

Anyway, out of off season fantasy land and back to the real world.
