Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Seems easily forgotten here that Pole has basically skipped 20’s and Ressies and straight to firsts from Ball.
I think you (and many others) will find Pole is a lot closer to what’s considered a modern day Lock than you think…
He’s got smarts, footwork, impact with the ball, defence and best of all - work ethic.
His ballwork could be better - at 21… with all the above, it will be better.

I keep hearing Matamua has the hands and used to play 5/8…
I’ve not seen much evidence of that, in any grade let alone firsts…

I don’t see him as rated by the club as he might have been - he’s barely mentioned, been sent back to 20’s, just doesn’t seem like he’s coming on as much as they’d hoped.

Not arguing at all really,
I keep seeing his name - but no one is providing much else to back it up…
To me, he just doesn’t look very good.
You’re still arguing with yourself mate . I was merely explaining the Matamua logic . Pole is the best of the bunch for sure . I’m merely talking in Prototypes mate . Once again cause you keep missing this point , so I’ll say it again … I honestly don’t care as long as we develop one of them . Like I said already like 3 times , Matamua fits a certain mould/prototype . That’s what people are seeing . But you’re 💯 right . His output has everyone asking huh? .

I recall reading he is a development player? I hope he can transition into the second row as I feel his talent is wasted at prop. He has far more to offer the team in the second row.
I agree he was wasted as a prop. I saw Chris and Kit in the same side doing exactly the same thing, one the lock the other the prop. Both ran hard and fast, hard to pick which one had the ball.
The selections last year in JF and KOE were all over the shop IMO. Players picked out of position, bouncing between grades. Never getting any cohesion with who was alongside them.
Hope with the new coaches that system has been abandoned and teamwork becomes more fashionable?

I saw someone was saying to sign Hymel Hunt.

That is the dumbest suggestion since someone saying sign Robert Jennings.

Feeeeeeel it.....

And look- unlike our outside backs, here's evidence he can score tries!

Matamua has all the skills, his issue is he generally dawdles with ball in hand.
Compare that to Can Murray who is generally moving at speed with ball in hand which makes his ball playing so effective when he decides to play out the back and also makes him a handful when running the ball himself.
Moving at speed is the key, nobody will look good or reach great heights if they only ever carry the ball at half pace.

I agree.

I have been really impressed with how Staines has toughened up the last 2 years with his carries, but the fact remains we can't have 2 wingers like him. One needs to be a powerful go forward man. IMO Staines will continue to get better at it, but biology is biology, and he is a speedy winger first and foremost.

Lobb has the size, we just have no idea if he has all the other attributes needed to be an NRL winger.
And the NZ rugby player has good size/speed as well

It kinda just hit me that Jarome Luai is officially gonna be the face of our club and the 7 to build all our success around moving forward - the more I think about it, the more I smile as we couldn’t have picked a better character for that role.

People look at skillset a lot (deservingly so) however, for THIS particular club you need someone more strong mentally and someone who can come and help build a culture whilst being the main man. You combine this mentality and experience (3 peat) and partner him with the freshest 6 prospect in the league in Fainu and we’ll see some magic. It’s an unbelievable combination and great mentor for young Latu.

Coming into a team that hasn’t made the 8 for 12-13 years is very daunting and regardless of your skill it can demoralise you as there’s a process, however Jarome seems to like the fact we’re struggling and wants to be the catalyst of change. That’s a rare trait in todays game.

Latrell didn’t want that responsibility. Yet, Jarome craves it. I admire that heavily and is probably a main reason for his success. I feel like win, lose or draw if Luai is our 7 one things for certain and that’s we won’t lack anything in the effort deportment.

Side note: Kit Lataulili looks to me a much better prospect than Matamua imo. He had a short showing but he looked like he belonged there and did bend the line on occasions. I’d definitely look into giving him a bench spot next year at the very least. Faguta seems to be the best 13 prospect out of the lot but he may need some more time in NSW cup but he’ll get his debut very soon I reckon.
I’m looking forward to a two pack punch with Kit and Chris carting it up through the middle with their great leg drive, low centre of gravity and passing game. Both ‘long term’ make the bench for mine at least if not with 1 playing 13 the other off the bench.
Matumua doesn’t have that same leg drive for me. And being a junior half doesn’t play as agressive. He does have the best hands out of everyone and defensively is strong but your just not going to get a Radley or Murray or Cotter style out of him.
