Australia Day

I'm the the grandson of immigrants. Used to be called all those names. I'm not sure what that has to do with it?

I don't harbour any guilt at all...it has nothing to do with me. I am simply thankful Australia gave my family a chance to have a little better than what they had.

People celebrate in different ways and for different reasons.

My initial question to you was what day do you think is worthy of celebration in your mind? Is there a day that is important to you in some way?

I was a bit defensive in my first post, my apologies.
To answer your original question; I suppose some
holy days, loved ones birthdays & things like that.
It's all really subjective at the end of the day though.
I'm all for people wanting to celebrate whatever
they hold near & dear 2 them. It's nobodies
business besides their own. When we force
things on different people it tends to have the
opposite effect of what we want I've come 2 find

As soon as another date is chosen, some groups will begin their research to enlighten us all as to why that date is offensive.
…and around we go again.
You cannot appease activists. They are full time professional victims.
Yep. They are full time professional victims because most of them are unemployed burdens on society and rely on tax payer money. And the worst part is, they disrupt people doing their work in society by protesting constantly. Obviously protesting is meant to be visible to raise awareness, but the disruption by activists on everyday people trying to get somewhere only makes them less supportable

Having an honest opinion or point of view is a good thing....I remember my mum and dad had friends around on Aust day because they weren't rostered on for work, they ,ate conversed had some beers and were very happy to be part of the Aust day celebs...my parents came here after the war and helped build the railways, many of their friends were Italian,Greek as well as Polish and Germans they went and built the Snowy River power stations.because of these people of all mixed nationalities and cultures is what makes our country unique and beautiful...
100%.
Not all Australia Day celebrations involve pissed up yobbos running around town with the Aussie flag tied round their neck, in their Bunnings straw hats calling anyone names who look different.

Will be harder for them if it’s like a first weekend of a month where the date changes each year.
Yes that’s true.
They’ll shift the goalposts in some way though….”still celebrating the colonisation of stolen land” etc etc etc…

Definitely the most diverse and tolerant culture on the planet. That must mean something right?

Tolerant? Jeez don't stretch it, brother. The influx
of immigrants/illegals & displaced people come
from countries the west invaded or colonised.
Definitely diverse though. I'm 4 tighter immigration
laws 4 the record (b4 you say anything smart) lol

I'm sure we can find somewhere in the Middle-East where women are respected so much more. Or somewhere in Africa where the children have great opportunity to be educated and live a 'normal' life. Or even somewhere in Russia where it is safe to wave the LGBT flag. If only we had those things here

Australia is far more tolerant than many Islamic nations - especially towards groups such as women and LGBTQIA+ folk.
