As long as it’s a day off work, I couldn’t care less when it is.

Ah yes but we had Empire Day instead when we all honoured the Great British Empire.I never remember having Aus day as a kid in the 60s & 70s
Also you know this is a profit/loss thing only as youve seen their spreadsheets right? Whats their profit on a packet of Pringles?
The date has already been changed multiple times though?
Its not supposed to be anything. You and I can do what ever the hell we want, kinda the whole point in Australia. Both things happened, both are real. Do you celebrate genocide? Do you mourn this great country? Surely you , I and everyone are capable of having an adult, mature approach to something and commemorate everything great with the country whilst acknowledging and having the appropriate response to what it meant/means to indigenous people.Point is it's supposed to be a day of celebration - not mourning.
Yea there are usually 6 white ones around Xmas. No, it's been around for a century
Seems overly optimistic to me. Read some of the other responses here...Surely you , I and everyone are capable of having an adult, mature approach to something and commemorate everything great with the country whilst acknowledging and having the appropriate response to what it meant/means to indigenous people.

Wonder how that 49% voted at the Voice referendum. Plenty of hypocrites amongst them.Good article WC. It's a bit old (2018) but good
background on the day. Would be interesting
to see the results of this poll 6 years on in 2024
"Australians don't appear to be particularly
fixated on maintaining the 26 January date.
A recent poll found that 56% of those
surveyed didnt mind when it was held as long as
there was a national day of celebration. Nearly half (49%) believed Australia Day should not be on a day that is offensive to indigenous people".
Yeah, i read that part too.The board advises on issues that effect indigenous
communities, such as the Dan Murphys megastore
near three dry Aboriginal communities in Darwin.
They don't mandate what should & shouldn't
be sold to a billion dollar business such as Woolies.
God forbid they had a voice on matters that effect
them & their communities, eh. More scare mongering

Who said romance is dead?!!
I don't know whether to applaud you or feel sorry for you.I have never owned or worn a pair of thongs in my life.
No conspiracy, just go with what they said, definitely no pandering agenda at all Winston. Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon also said the election was rigged, are you saying cause he came out and just said it we should believe it? See how that works. They've come out and said it multiple times.
There are a few articles where they've been
quoted as saying sales have declined in the
last decade or so, there isn't much of an
appetite for those items. No conspiracy bro
All I'm saying is there is a lot more behind the decision apart from the commercial side of it ... how much do you think they made celebrating Diwali in every store?
I think its more un Australian to celebrate the birth of a foreign kingI think it would be un Australian to give up a public holiday
Your feet would get quite muggy.I have never owned or worn a pair of thongs in my life.
I think this place is mainly un-Australian…I think its more un Australian to celebrate the birth of a foreign king
That’s a whole different discussion about the Republic debate. Id say it’s well and truly off the agenda at present. My view for what it is worth - change The Kings birthday weekend to Australia Day weekend.
Get rid of that stain that is on the calendar each year
It’s off the table, another pandemic or assassination though and watch them hit ‘eject’That’s a whole different discussion about the Republic debate. Id say it’s well and truly off the agenda at present.
