Adam Doueihi #227

No, definitely nothing concrete. Just that I've heard a bunch of cap rules discussed on various podcasts in the past and from what i recall this would be a breach.
As I said I'm definitely not certain of it, fairly sure but not certain. Is there any evidence of anyone ever being paid out of their contract?

Was just thinking of some thing else why this doesn’t make any sense…

Clubs pay part of players salary to play for other clubs… we know this happens all the time..

In theory they could pay 100 per cent of the players salary to go and play for another club… so why couldn’t they pay a 100 percent of their salary not to play at all?

I dont know …

I don’t get your point though,., the money paid out on a Top 30 player who gets released will still count towards the Salary Cap … so what’s the issue?
I don't really think there necessarily should be an issue, I just believe that it is a cap rule I have heard referenced previously.
I can see an arguement for why it should be allowed. Other posters in the past have suggested that Doueihi's contract wouldn't be counted which would be easy to see reasoning for not being allowed.

This is a very good point.

Both medically retired. Although the Inglis one seemed a bit dodgy it was ruled a medical retirement at the time.
players get paid out to move on all the time, not quite what your talking about, but where there is a will n all,Twal for instance ,maybe we didnt chip in enough to move him on,i think Doueihi is prime pickings for medical retirement,Funicane style

If you dont have anything else … I’ll leave it at that … doesn’t really seem to make sense to me..

Perhaps the podcast you heard was mistaken …

Could always introduce a contract/club status of Injured Reserve, similar to the NFL. Players is still on contract, but no longer counts against the club roster position (Top 30 in NRL terms) until removed from IR.

Warriors paid out lodge

Warriors paid out lodge
Looking into that. Yes they paid him out. His salary definitely remained on the books and included in their cap but unknown if his playing spot remained on the books also.
As of July it was reported Warriors only have 28 "top 30" players listed for 2023. i haven't done a real deep search on if they added anyone to their list (they must have added at least one). But none that I can see after just a few minutes of looking.
I'd assume it is like a mid season release it can be counted as a top 30 player or as a freed up spot.
Id further guess that Tom is/right I'm wrong and you can pay someone out and free up a spot given his point earlier about contributing towards salaries of players who have left, though it still isn't conclusive. Either way I'm not sure paying out a bloke on 600k is really an option given the hit it will be to the cap. Maybe a Kepoa, or someone else that is on a lesser contract might be preferable. And that is assuming there is actually someone of improved ability that we can sign to take that spot.

Does anyone know if he’s bulked up at all and is there any plans to potentially see how he goes as a lock or back rower ?
Alternatively if the ACL injuries haven’t caused him to lose too much pace, no reason why he couldn’t make a successful return as a centre.
His defence is atrocious... He'd be a literal turnstile, that said it is a lot to do with attitude and if he can find the passion and attitude his defence needs the same passion he seems to have for gays in school, then maybe he's a chance

That's a bit of a cheap shot mate. Not sure what his religious beliefs have to do with his footy 🤦‍♂️

Regardless of opinion on Doueihi as a player, I think we can all agree he is enduring significant trauma with his third knee reconstruction. For that reason, can we give this young man some grace and allow him as far as is possible, to concentrate on his rehabilitation. I hope he can get back on the field regardless of whether it is with the WTs, another NRL club or in the UK where grounds are a bit more foregiving. I wish him all the best with his recovery and it was good to see him running in one of the 24 training snaps.
