Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Miller has not been running with the likely starting line up, Galvin has.
True, but he’s not a top shelf halves junior like Galvin is either. I reckon u will see Sullivan and Sezer starting the year. It would be a mistake to blood him early, maybe late in the year coming in at centre. He’s only 18 and played no football against men. Fainu is in the injured bay with out new recruit Olam. Remove he would be getting more of the plays if not injured.

If he is a superstar … which they keep saying he is , then he will be the exception not the rule .
listen to the messaging mate . Is all I’m saying . Seriously …
Remember Galvin couldn’t even make the Harold matthews side in the halves. You guys want to start him there this year, good luck!

Isaako just had a career season with tries and goal-kicking!

He has the right wing locked up - and the rest will fight it out for left wing.

Tesi Niu is more likely to start there than Bostock!!
Maybe, but given they wouldn’t give us Bostock for Tupou early if what was said on here true, he must be apart of their plans at some stage. Niu they may not even keep after this year he’s off contract while Bostock isn’t. Just have to wait and see I guess.

I personally do not think we have to many halves. I would argue we have the right amount.

Considering Galvin hasn't even played a minute of Jersey Flegg or NSW Cup, I really can't see him coming into contention for a halves spot in 2024. He needs a full season (March to August) in the lower grades and in the gym to build his body for the rigours of NRL.

Let Sezer, Fainu and Sullivan fight it out for the two halves position. The odd man out can either bag a bench spot or play in NSW Cup ready to step up should one of the two starters get injured or lose form.

If u are saying starting him in the centres. I am all good with that but not till later in the season. It’s the best for his development. Willet has a bigger frame than Galvin currently!
Arghhhh!!!!! I’m saying that because he’s training there he’s a chance of round 2/ early season ! I have no idea if he’s ready or not ….

Game was completely different back then. But he was a good player no argument there.
And the main difference was that Brasher and Fittler - (and Rowdy for that matter speaking of players who debuted while at school) - were physically ready to make the jump to grade and had proven that playing reserve grade with and against seasoned veterans.

While their physiques matured over the years - their body shapes and relative playing weights did not dramatically change from their debuts until their retirements.

Compare that to the scrawny kid Benji was when he debuted in 2003 - and his necessary physical development from 2005 to 2010-11 when he was at he peak of his game.

That has to be the biggest consideration with Galvin - as we don't want a wasted 2025 for the kid (or our cap) by debuting him too early and risking a major injury that sees him in a lengthy rehab.

An NRL staff member pointed out to me that they were struggling with having such a large first grade squad in pre-season. Not always what it seems.

How would convicted sex offender Tyrone May improve our backline???

He is a reserve grade standard 5/8th who played from the bench behind Luai at the Panthers - & only made the 17 because of his relationship with the Clearys!!

We have better options there already in Sullivan - Fainu and Galvin!!

So basically - we would be tying up THREE spots in a package deal with the only likely starter being a fricking winger!!

Hard NO!!
Ur entitled to ur say , I still think they are better than what we got , and lay of the sex affender thing , if the nrl register them , then we may as well get them rather than another team

60% of so of NRL players are Polynesian putting a kid not developed is a walking repeated long term injury away.

I would be very very surprised unless we had an injury crisis if Galvin plays NRL in 24. We have zero reason to rush him.
Benji will decide if and when he’s ready, he’s better placed than any of us to make that decision.
The fact is Benji rates this kid highly and he won’t be concerned about playing him at NRL level just because he’s more slightly built than others.
Based on that theory Sam Walker and Jayden Campbell should not have played any NRL by now, they both go ok.

I don't think it's breaking news that a guy who's been playing in the NRL for 3 years & on a better attacking team is more threatening then a guy who hasn't even played 20 games & was on the worst attacking team in the comp.... here's a link to Bula fending off one of the best props in the game to score a try btw
I actually agree with @Vicious point, however you aren't telling any lies as well. Bula is a supreme talent BUT he's not a superstar YET. Could he be one day?..... Absolutely.

I feel as a club we can sometimes put too much pressure on a kid who has shown promise within a short period of time. I have this same worry about Latu Fainu too even I’m guilty of it.

I think we're looking for our next Benji constantly. Who’s gonna be the next wonder kid to come through and turn our success around. It was meant to be Tedesco then he eventually left due to bad management. I think we're starting to heap that onto both Bula/Fainu. I saw TDS play a handful of games and due to the high expectations seems like he overplayed his hand on occasions and it didn't look natural.

Personally, what I admire most about Bula's game is his maturity it’s impressive for someone who’s played limited games, it isn't his ability but more his comfortably he's just a natural footballer. His instincts are insane both attacking/defensively, his reading of the game is exceptional and his athleticism is top tier. He also takes a lot of tough carries and runs for 200 meters a game often. He’s more a Dylan Edwards mould than a Reece Walsh. Whenever the skills/ability start to click more often and he gets even more experience then we can have the conversation of calling him a star. At this moment of time he’s just a very talented footballer.

Overall, my point is we should lower our expectations on our youngsters and allow them to develop naturally without any added stress or expectations which can hinder them. Luai coming in will help with that as we now have 2 proven superstars in our spine with Api as well and won’t need to rely on rookies like we have the last decade.

It’s a refreshing change which we should enjoy.

Jesus Christ ! Wtf are you guys even arguing ? I’m literally saying if he’s training with the firsts , it means he’s right there . All I’m saying is if he’s got the skills don’t be surprised if he’s there round 1.
Sorry but unless you’ve got some insight into what Galvin benches , how he goes in wrestling drills , contact drills etc you have as much idea as I do .
How do you know what Galvins maturity is like ? Nofa is 30 and is the most immature dude in the team .
I've heard he is stupidly fit and deceptively strong from a coach within the pathways. the rumour about him breaking the 1.2km Bronco record Reynolds set when he was here is legitimate. no idea what he's benching but again, deceptively strong.

Given any deal would be for 2025 - you are literally claiming Tyrone May is BETTER than:

Luai
Fainu
Sullivan
Galvin

He is a crap player and a worse person!!

For me Galvin should be spending time in reserve grade before getting that call up. Hasn’t even played Flegg and hasn’t gone up against men yet. He’s got potential and I think he’ll make first grade at some stage. But playing him round 1 (well round 2 in our case) is a gamble that shouldn’t be happening yet.

I suspect we need to find out what we’ve got and he’s being tested in pre-season to that end. The club is probably fielding many calls with potential players coming our way in return.
