Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Karen, you seem to have a great passion for our team. You've dropped in from nowhere, and have taken to posting like a natural. Quality thoughts, as well !
It's refreshing to read some new opinions, otherwise it's just The Same People posting. 😉
Welcome .
What’s strange is that Karen seems to have the same ideas as a former poster named TSP

That's pretty piss poor.

I like Potter and think he is very under rated as a coach and has been hard done by on more than one occasion.
U can have your opinion that’s fine. But reality in the fact that no one wants him speaks more volume than your opinion.
Have u heard him speak at anything?? Press conferences, etc?? If u can’t tell that there’s not much going on upstairs, then that says more about you than him. Like brooks, potter can’t help that he’s dog shit dumb. He just shouldn’t be coaching anything above park football.

Harsh.
But not wrong.

Thank you very much, much appreciated.

So far I’m really enjoying the chats and learning stuff. Lots of good insights.

I don’t look to see who has liked what.

I’ve got my reply from Shane and my membership package unboxing and quality testing to present here for fun.

For what it’s worth, I think now is the time for everyone to support the changes and member up.

Whether we approve of the coach, think Douhie is too expensive, don’t trust the new Manly kids, would give a kidney to see Api extend his playing career, once you’re a member, you have the run of the white elephant ( aka coe).

You want to join the club when we are still technically a basket case, owners of spoon… for boasting privileges in a couple of years.

If Lee is a “real man”, he will continue to sponsor the club beyond his contract.
I’m surprised we weren’t selling club fedoras at one point.

But he was snapped up by Trent Robinson as an assistant, that says something to me but I’m not here trying to defend Taylor’s coaching credentials or otherwise,
I just didn’t like the way Farah got involved and handled it, the same as he did with Potter. I hope whatever role he has now at the Tigers he’s under strict control.
It was very VERY different with Taylor and Potter.

Potter, RF was interviewed by Gordon Tallis. "off the record, does Potter have what it takes?"
Farah "no".

Well Farah made the mistake of trusting GT. Yea, it looks foolish but Farah is a football player. I 100% give him the benefit of the doubt.

Re Taylor, RF was on 900k because the club was trying to pay back a 200k load to him (yes they loaned the club money). Taylor saw him as Over-valued and wanted to keep Taupau.

Totally makes sense, it took me awhile but Taylor was right. The problem was Taylor handled this with the personal skills of Red Simmons.

Funny thing is Tapua left at the first opportunity as he was disgusted at how a club legend could be treated at the club. Backfired immensely

Our defence should still be good this year , I feel with our new halves we will grab those points we missed with poor attack last year and this will give our defenders a bit less work load , all we did was defend last year , ore points makes it a bit easier , we will be fine , Top 8 is not out of reach we just need to make sure we win the games that are there for the taking , last year we stuffed up,at least 6 winnable games
Personally, I found our defense very wanting with the games I watched.

Old issues still present:
1. winger gets caught on overlap. Tupou outperformed Nofo in letting tries through (which is a massive effort).
2. Side is Gassed come second half. Really worried when Benji says the training won't be super hard/intensive as clearly Sheens was too light.

Naturally the lack of structure in defense and attack lets us down. This year was particularly bad as I swear Brooks saw headlights whenever he was passed the ball....

SPOT ON!

That's why I scream at anyone who says "it's a Business", WRONG WRONG, rocks in the head WRONG!

Players are playing Football because they like it. You will get a few Mattersons, a few money hungry grubs and yes we all want a 800k contract if one is available. ...

You have been training and playing football since you were 11 because you watched some Hero/origin game/crazy football and discover that you love the sport. You love playing it and you want to play it more.

" I went there because it seemed they were having fun" Glenn Lazarus, on joining the Broncos.

Yes it's a job
Yes it's a business
These people are playing football and doing this sport instead of Rugby because they like the players, the team and the excitement of it.

Taupau (?tapua??) may have left because if the club was going to throw Farah away he thought 'whats the point'. Manly have 'fortress manly', a US vs Them that keeps a stack of players playing for unders and a team together.
Two words:
Club Culture.

Yes, if we have a 600k player we have to pay them something close to their worth. When players though love what they are doing and love the people who they are playing with a $650k contract can get knocked back.

Club Culture. Lets build it.

Here’s a mole article, you can tell the mole has no idea about football and he proves it here when he says Douhie is all class.

Thanks for linking it.

Very poorly argued by Moley that Benji was somehow protected last year.

According to Chamas, he was assisting and then took the more practical reins about late July.

So if Benji was shielded, it was probably for a few weeks to a month.

Pretty amazing that in your very first year of coaching, you get the keys to the ferari!

I don’t think Benji will have too many difficulties with the non footy side of being a coach. Getting his game plan right and embedding his drive into the players is his biggest challenge.

Don't worry. Everything will be ok.

Talking with a Penrith mate today talking about Ivan Clearly and how things could have been different for both clubs

Ivan went after and made offers to

Fisher Harris. Forward
Dylan Edwards. Fullback
Nathan Clearly. Half
Harawira-naera forward

And we ended up with

Packer forward
Mbye. Fullback
Reynolds half
Ben Matulino

Talk about sliding doors moment

There’s too sides though.
To the administrators, it is a business and you know loyalty is only applicable when what is being weighed up is how talented the player that is being considered.
To the players and even extended to football staff. It is a community a brotherhood of sorts bonded by the love of football as you mentioned.
Luckily in Richo we have an administrator that understands how to balance both needs.

That's exactly why modern teaching sucks.

Brooks was an Introvert. He is naturally shy, and that's fine. Okay maybe not the best for a halfback...<ARRGH skipping usual rant of make him a damn 5/8>

Shy != dumb.
Sounding dumb != dumb. Classic example I know a physio therapist who looks and sounds a little dumb, guy works wonders and knows more about the body then I ever will.

Wow I can't believe it, you have actually found something to say about Brooks that hasn't been said in 10,000 posts... NFI on Potter because I have only heard him speak a few times.

Not every player will be an extravert. Andrew Johns dealt with it by letting his ADHD do the talking. Plenty of players stuff a press confrence, nothing to do with their performance on field.
