No it doesn’t ! It means people want to feel superior so they toe the most politically correct line , which they do or don’t necessarily believe .
anybody using it any other way doesn’t understand its meaning . In other words “I’m better than you , and here’s why “ .
it’s insincere at its best , and more morally bankrupt at its worst , as it’s about clout and little else .
Sorry I feel this needs to be added . My perfect outcome would be find a date that makes everyone happy and we move on . But that’s not reality hence , my previous post . And like I said , for the loudest voices it has very little to do with true change , but more to do with the social clout that comes with being “on the right side of history” whatever that means !

All I proposed was an Indigenous Day for our Black brothers as per another comparable country .

Us are those who see it is a day of celebration not a day of mourning. There are two distinct views here C and unfortunately imo it’s us and them( not by colour, by state of mind).
I don’t like that either but that’s the reality.
 
I don't know. As far as I can ascertain, I'm at least 7th generation Australian. This is my country just as much as anyone else's regardless of race or ethnicity. If not, then I have no country. I don't need to be welcomed everywhere I go or be told where or when to celebrate. I have decided me and mine celebrate on the given Australia Day, 26th, and everybody else is free to do as they please - protest or celebrate. Neither will stop me from doing what I want to do. IMHO this is the best country in the world and part of that is freedom to do what you will, within the law, and not feel threatened, harassed or belittled by minorities or activists, as some people feel. People have the right to celebrate, people have the right to protest. End of story.

In addition the Yanks have Thanksgiving Day which is a major celebration of the arrival of the British and what they brought with them to the new land.
And of course, the big one is 4thJuly, American Independence Day when they ditched the British and went alone ( still to happen here).

My point with all this, let the Indigenous People have their own day, let all others have Australia Day, and get ready to vote yes to a Republic next time we’re asked!

I like this that's why I stated more public holidays have a Aboriginal day have an Australian day and have a say builders day a celebration of the people who help build Australia the Chinese that came for the gold rush the Italian and Greeks who came over in the 50s and 60s and the Slavs who did alot of work on the snowy mountains hydro
