Cricket Season Thread

Exactly I thought Smith was really self centred exposing Josh to 2 balls every over and Lyon to 5 balls every over and Cummings looked really out of sorts .Just not intelligent !
I reckon they might have discussed it, and due to the field all being on the fence, a 4, or a 2 were hard to get but Smith was still getting them early in the over and then going for the single on ball four bcoz if he goes for the single on ball five they’ll bring the field up and you risk not getting a single at all and then Hazo is left facing 7 balls every 2 overs. If Hazo thinks he can get through an over from one of the bowlers no worries then sure that’s the tactic, but when both bowlers are just as likely to knock him over, and add in the field setting tactic’s WI employed, then Smith’s, or possibly Hazo’s, or possibly the team’s tactic of taking the single on ball four is sound. Hazo faces four balls every 2 overs leaving Smith facing 8. Not to mention you are getting the extra single per over to reduce to target.

And in other news. the Poms have come back from the dead to be in a winning position against India.
Just turn over to the Curried Pom Poms game and the poms are about to win it? Stokes just got a mad runout like Heads but from mid off and Leach just got one.

Just quietly, how good was that win by the Windies!
They were amazing all those years ago. Liked to party too.

Commentators have been terrible since Tony Grieg Passed away.

My top 3 favourite cricketers would be Dirk Wellam, Greg Chappell and tba.

Greg Chappell and his batting, you’d break down in tears as a kid watching him in living realistic b&w tv.

@Tucker was a massive Greg Matthews fan for awhile if I recall. When he was the only Aussie having a go.

Dad refused to watch the “ pyjama game” but give him a Test, a couple of longnecks of dinner ale and his work next to him, paradise.

As he was a Pom and me an Aussie, I spent most of life being taunted by Dad about how we “only play well because we are hungover” and other criticisms.

Eventually the Poms came good, I’m glad he saw some glory days.

I miss him every day, I was ‘ken blessed!

Great game.
Hopefully the WI team grows from this and gets back to what they use to be.
I think the Smith criticism is a bit rough considering how some of them threw their wicket away, Marsh, Starc, and Lyon who kept hooking with two blokes out there? And the not protecting Lyon enough talk, well he is the go to night watchman, who can defend well and maybe had he been doing that instead of swinging for the fences then the result might be different.
Anyway great win by the WI and I’m looking forward to the ODIs now.
Smith’s dig I guess deserves some praise, how many openers carry their bat.

In saying that his mentality is very similar to Steve Waugh when it comes to batting. His focus is on his own innings and has confidence in the tail to hold up an end. That is a very risky approach. Ben Stokes was in a similar situation the other day and he shielded the tail for a long time In India.

Anyway bottom line it was a great test and cricket was the winner

I've followed the Windies for years, occasionally check their domestic comp out and was super worried but curious about this tour, lots of guys with only 1 or 2 first class hundreds but a bit of potential and form. Great a few of them got 50 given they average in the 20s and 30s. Shamar has really come from nowhere, along with Seales (injured) and Alzarri they have 3 guys 140+ and who are ready now. They need more tests, their first class setup is nothing like ours and these guys only get a couple of series a year.

Hartley also takes 7 wickets today, and guess what?
England come back from the dead to beat India in India.
Bad day for punting on favs.

Yep. I'm a big fan of Ian Bishop and Jim Matthews on ABC radio
